I used to not obsess about battery life.

Pre-iOS 7 I would come home with about 60-70% battery.

Over 75% if I turn off the things I turn off with iOS7.

Since iOS 7, it would be less than 50% when I come home.

My usage has not differed. I am a university lecturer, i.e. when I'm at work, it's the same **** I do most days.

My iP5 is less than a year old. The battery still holds almost its maximum charge (checked with iBackupBot). I have used about 150 cycles.

I have same problems, but I still think it's related to weak signal strength, and specifically the way ios 7 deal with it.

I can confirm.

I have pretty decent battery life when I am at my office all day (full signal). For example, I am at 80% right now (8 hours into the day). Yesterday I had to make a site visit in a rural area and my battery was toast by the end of the afternoon (about 30% this time of day). I only used my phone for a few phone calls. No web browsing or games.

I found my battery life dropped significantly when I went to 7, until I turned off Airdrop and Frequent Locations. Then it became just a light to moderate decrease in battery life. Upgraded to 7.0.3 yesterday, and so far it seems better, but one day doesn't make for a good test.

Do you have any apps running in the background like dropbox or another that is set to run in the background and do automatic updates?

In my case, usage time are with all apps closed every time I don't need them.

----------

So if I am getting 4-5 hours of usage and 12 hours of stand by before it dies that is good?

That's depend of what kind of apps are you using ....

Your usage time is similar to mine (but I can reach 17-20 hours of standby), so I don't think is great. I used to have a couple hours more with iOS 6 ...

----------

Would you guys consider this good? I have felt I have had awful Battery life ever since I got iOS 7. My iPhone 5 is only a few months old, I got it in July. I was even thinking of going to an Apple Store and seeing if they can do anything. I guess this is just the way it is.

As a sort of test yesterday I drained my battery dead and then charged it up. I have not plugged it in since at all, even over night which I usually do. This is the result as of this morning. My usage is mostly internet, some videos and a lot of audio like podcasts. I have background app refresh on but only for maybe 4 apps.

For those of you who try to set your device up as new to alleviate battery issues, do you set it up new and KEEP it that way or restore a back up after? I just don't have the option to do that. I have apps with data I could not start over on. How do you manage not restoring all your stuff?

Your battery behavior is fine ...

That would be above average battery usage experience, overall.
Battery life seems the same if not better on 7.0.3
That would be a good amount above average of battery usage experience, overall.

....because I have almost the exact-same usage patterns every single day.

"Almost the exact"

And you just proved my point. There's a lot of variations when it comes to usage.

- maybe one day you used Facebook too much (battery killer)
- maybe one day you shot a video
- maybe one day you were more on wifi than LTE
- maybe one day you sent more texts than made phone calls

You see where I'm going here?

Battery life on iOS 7 is about he same, if not better.

My battery life has definitely taken a hit since 7.0.3

However, I cannot be 100% certain it's the OS unless I delete BBM from my phone as I installed that at around the same time.

Gonna keep monitoring it for now . . .

I use my phone for the same stuff every single day and noticed immediately that iOS7 raped my battery. On average I get 35-50% less runtime and that's a fact.

More features does mean a reduced battery life. It's a simple thing. Want better mutli tasking? Comes at a cost. Want more OS level options? etc..

My battery life since OS 7 isn't bad, diminished some but not enough to rant about it on a message board.

Android because devs can implement system level tweaks has been plagued by this for years, however as a result the OS is a lot more open and devs can do a lot more to change and customize the overall experience.

I think you would be ranting if your battery life lost almost 50% due to an update. As for the new features, aside from safari I don't use any of them and would swap the switched off features in a heartbeat for my battery life back.

I'm pretty sure since I didn't install any new app.

I also tried to restore as new and with no apps beside the standard I had battery drain problems ...

It's not a valid explanation ....
iOS 7 is a battery hog also with EVERY new feature disabled.

My almost new iPhone 5 lost 30% of its battery life with iOS 7, and while I am a big apple fan, I think this is enough to rant a lot ...

I don't have anything to compare it to except my iPhone 4s on iOS 6, but so far on 7.0.3 total clean install to iCloud restore battery life is amazing! Most settings are on default but changed a few- so far 52% remaining with 3 hrs 42 min usage and 18 hrs 48 min standby.

Battery on my 5S seems better after 7.0.3. Usually I would have 50% charge at the end of the day, I use it pretty much the same everyday. Since upgrading I plug it in at night and have around 60%. So I can confidently say the update hasn't worsened my battery. Battery on this phone is nuts, my 4S was horrible compared to this.

It is definitely better for me on 7.0.3.

I wish I got that

Right now my phone is at 4 hours of usage and 16 hours (8 of which were over night) of standby and its at 25%

That's not bad Dave. There's so many variables though.

On my iPhone 5s I'll get anywhere from 5-7.5 hours of usage depending upon how I'm using my phone and also how strong/weak the signal reception is.

When you started having the battery problem what kind of usage time were you getting? Did restoring and set up as new have a positive effect on your battery life?

I am finding that 7.0.3 is MUCH better than the previous incarnations of iOS7 when it comes to battery life on my iPhone5. It still isn't up to iOS6 standards but noticeably better. I reckon I'm 12.5 -15% down on the usage I used to get with iOS6, which is a distinct improvement on the 35-50% hit I was taking before 7.0.3 was released. I haven't done a clean install this time either, just an OTA upgrade and a reset of network settings afterwards. I couldn't be bothered with another clean install after having done four DFU installs and setting up as a new phone with no improvement previously. I might try it again now because iOS 7.0.3 gives me much more hope for a successful outcome....

No, I'm getting the same as I did before.

Right now I'm at 2:20 usage and 8 hours standby and I'm at 45%

That will average about to about 5 hours of usage. If 5 hours is good then I guess the ppl getting 8 or 9 are just lucky.

That is what I was always getting earlier in the year.
I usually have all circles filled.

I guess i won't ever get back to using it for two days before recharges like I did on some of IOS 6.

But the way I look at it, as long as I can get home from work around 6 if its not dead then I'm in good shape.

I think Im just gonna shut off the % from showing and not being so anal every time it drops a % every couple of minutes.

thanks for helping.

LTE all day, no WiFi. No music listened to. Amazing battery life. Something must be wrong with your guys' phones.

Dang that's a bummer.

Well if you need all of your stuff back you should be able to restore from you backup now that you know that there's not an issue in your data causing poor battery life.

You're welcome. I wish the advice I gave you would have helped. At leashed you've learned how to troubleshoot iOS. Restoring and setting up as new is the best troubleshooting technique I know of.

I would make an appointment and take in your phone to an apple store. If there isn't one around you, give AppleCare a fall. Either one can run behavior scan and see if there's an issue with your battery. Use your phone for at least two weeks before doing so. That way they will be able to after enough data from your software to see if there's a hardware issue.
