That is what the proximity sensor is for, to prevent the user from accidentally touching the screen when they hold it up to their ear. The only scenario where the screen stays on is in speaker mode, in which most cases the user is looking straight-on at the display, so it would take somebody with Parkinson's Syndrome to accidentally hit the end button.

Jonathan Ive is simply (pun intended) out of his mind.
Way too many people use speakerphone while holding the phone. Plenty of people need to enter various information using the keypad during a call. Some need to use mute or other functions. So it's fair to say quite a few interact with the phone while on the call. Whether or not more experienced accidental hangups in iOS 7 or not is certainly a question, but if that was happening it could be at least partially behind this. That said, quite a bit simply could be just a move to circular buttons for one reason or another as part of an overall design.

Would be interesting if the capital letters on the keys changed to lowercase letters when toggling the "Shift" key. Then people wouldn't have to check the mode of said Shift key.

Ugg it annoys me to no end that they won't fix this. There's no good reason to not show lower case when typing. Both wp8 and android do this.

7 SUCKS. You must be too young to remember the early computing days when everything was flat. In this case, retro is not cool.

Whether 7 sucks or not is an individual thing. So, you don't like the flat look - plainly obvious.

Flat iOS is here to stay for a while, so you can like or it whine. Your choice.

And you haven't noticed that trends are very much rotational, especially in computing.

As someone whose first foray into the world of Graphical User Interfaces was Macintosh System Software 1, I, for the most part, really like iOS 7.

Does this bother anyone else? The circular buttons in phone, contact images, and the new stuff in 7.1b3 vs the rounded square app icons and keyboard keys. Something about the two coexisting in iOS bothers me.

Circular keyboard keys? Really?

Would also love to see the option for a darker keyboard. Is it so hard to give the user the option of a darker and a lighter theme?

And agree, they should spend more time fine tuning. I just went from an iPad 2 with iOS 6 to a new iPad 4 with iOS 7. I swear, I miss my old iPad. I have more crashes and resets than I have ever had on my iPad 2. Sigh...

yeah it looks bad funky having a circular end button.

I don't like the new less dark messages/phone icons either, and the power off is ok but looks kinda jailbreak-y (and I love jailbreak, but I mean that as in something not stock).

No, I am not saying the keyboard should have circular keys, maybe the phone app should have rounded square buttons? Look, I am not a graphic artist, but the circular buttons and rounded square buttons/app icons do not look right.

Why? Not trolling. Just interested what you actually do with it that makes you life better?

I tired for a while and other than pirated crap and notifications ( still not great ) didn't see the need.

Your reply is so obnoxious you don't have a clue what you're talking about really.

Not everything should be one way or another really.

Unified Search Bar

Am I the only one who is waiting for the option to remove the unified address bar in Safari?? Or at least give us the option to remove/hide that pesky period on the keyboard!!

Where is the effing cellular data toggle button in the control center for ipad?

I am glad I am not the only one who is waiting patiently for that...Hopefully we won't have to be patient much longer!

I think Apple's rational is that because WiFi always supersedes cellular data, that and the airplane mode toggle are therefor adequate for most users.

Some of these changes look nice, but I'm not keen on the new 'Call' icon beneath the keypad. An updated 'Slide to Answer' is also welcome, but the current design looks a bit awkward and bulky. Otherwise I'm looking forward to 7.1, especially the iOS 6 layout in Calendar.

I just hope they revert the contacts layout back to iOS 6, and make the Music App icon less harsh on the eyes in beta 4.

Edit: Also, fix Notification Centre already!

This would be perfect! Can't believe they haven't thought of that in over 7 years.

perhaps they figure if you can handle permanent capital letters on a computer keyboard, you're probably able to deal with it on the phone as well ;)
