There are tons of reports about how the 7.1 betas are much faster than previous with less crashes, etc.

Actually on the last beta people still reported Safari crashing while commenting to a long Disqus thread.

It's pretty much the standard commenting system on the internet now -  really needs to make sure their iOS can handle the memory issues it requires.

"...they sweat details"

REALLY ... when will that sweating details include iOS optimization for iPad.
Since you think they're doing such a terrible job, why are you using Apple products? And if you don't use Apple products, why are you wasting your time complaining about them? Clearly you think someone else does a better job, so why don't you use their platform and get on with your life?

I will never understand the whiners on this board.

Your reply is so obnoxious you don't have a clue what you're talking about really.

In what way? I asked politely what way it cam make my life better. Then I stated my last experience with jailbreaking - (on iOS5) THAT'S ALL. I am not an expert and that's why I asked. No need to be complete arse about it.

Then the guy wrote back a nice list of some great reasons to jailbreak. Which I am looking at the apps and they look great. So perhaps you need to learn to read and understand a bit more....now that was obnoxious.

----------

Adblock
date + free ram in status bar
lots more toggles in control center
launch/do anything from control center (apps,
unlimited itunes radio skipping
nitrous for faster facebook/chrome/other non-safari web apps
default browser/maps changer
f.lux
faster animations
airdrop + blur on my ipad3
change system fonts
customize the look and feel
improved video recording
nested folders

the list goes on...

Thanks, Looks like things have improved a lot since iOS5 Jailbreaking.

I've done some research into it and can see there is a lot of good reasons to do it for tech guys. I'd never recommend it to Joe Public, but i suppose thats the point of the iPhone isn't it.

I've probably owned Apple products before you were born.

Just asking a legitimate question - when will Apple optimize iOS for iPad?

Then why aren't you using Android? I'm sincerely asking.

That would be quite a trick since I was born in 1973 (see my username) and Apple was founded in 1977.

What part of iOS do you feel is not suited for iPad usage?

Still ugly and bad GUI design. They're trying hard to not reverse direction because Apple never admits to being wrong. These adjustments should've come as part of the design iterations, not after public feedback. Jony Ive doesn't comprehend GUI design. He does not belong in even an advisory position there, let alone leadership.

Steve was a genius for lots of things. This was NOT one of them. Did he do this because people are most creative when they are asleep? Did he do this because people are at their most capable of problem solving in the middle of the night? No, he did this to demonstrate how enormous his ego was. If an employer EVER called me in the middle of the damn night to fix something that could wait until the next day....

No, I am not a slave, I am an employee. I work to live, I do NOT live to work. It is sad that anyone let him get away with this.

I like Apple products, but you can be committed to quality without needing to be committed to a sanitarium.

see he wouldnt hire you. not on the iphone project anyway
in order to do something great, you need to live it, breathe it.

switching on only during 9-5 office hours yields normal results, not leapfrog products.

that's what I dont get with my colleagues sometimes. they come to work and they think their responsibility is to show up 9-5.
9-5 is a guideline. your responsibility is your company. it is to do your job function and do it well.

on the eve of a product launch, you better be there 24/7 if the product you're responsible over is not 100%

Most of the posts are from people who love to complain about anything and don't take the time to rationalize why Apple is making the changes.
I guess it's an indicator of the instant gratification, no consequences, teethed on video games, OCD, can't hold a job, living on handouts, society we live in.

"What part of iOS do you feel is not suited for iPad usage?"

With all the real estate on my iPad why am I reading fonts (which I can't change) that are sized for iPhone? i.e. Calendar, App Descriptors, etc.

Why does my iPad "jerk" when opening Safari and Mail and then snail in use?

"Seriously, if there's another platform that's SO much better, why wouldn't you change?"

I've got around $700 plus invested in iBooks - I think I've bought some rights to B...H about the changes!

Oh yeah, I will join in with andynoiseboy (below) and add that I also am in the $20,000 range of Apple products over the years - this ain't a passing fad.

----------------------

Oh yeah, and who gave Apple permission to add album art to my iPhone/iPad iTunes (I'm not in the cloud and match is turned off) - why wasn't I asked FIRST?

So...OCD somehow became some negative thing people just (choose to) do?

Sounds like you have got the whole world sussed out. How come you're not president, yet?

Seriously, if there's another platform that is capable of fulfilling your expectations, why wouldn't you change? That's what got me to switch from Windows a couple years ago.

I have spent something like £13,000 ($20,000?) on apple products over the past maybe 7 years so I'm not an apple-basher for the sake of it. Simply ditching all my ios devices would be expensive - although ios7 prompted me to go buy an Android tablet to assess the viability.
iOS6 was capable of fulfilling my expectations and 7 should represent improvements in every respect but it most certainly doesn't. I mainly resent the fact that apple now consider owners to be beta testers and their exponentially increasing control-freakery prevents you downgrading if you're not happy. This is unacceptable behaviour and will ultimately drive rational consumers away.
On my iphone 4, I can have up to a 4 second lag with some functions that were virtually instantaneous before ios7. (no, restoring has no affect...). Clearly ios7 was released while still exhibiting beta performance levels, and after 4 updates there are still serious issues. How is that acceptable? If I were permitted to install ios6 on devices that are my own property I wouldn't be typing right now......

Check for Cellular data please?

Could someone check and see if they have fixed this !@#!@# bug in 7.1?

On a given app, e.g. a game or navigation app, you can turn off cellular data. However, everytime I start the game, or say Navigon, it says:
"Cellular data is turned off for this app. Open settings to turn it on."

Of course it is off! I set it off! Stop throwing up a dialog every time I open the app!

There is no way to tell it that you intended to have it off.

This is especially problematic in podcasts.

Well, I see adding contrast as moving away from a complete flat design.

And as for the shut down bar, I was actually talking about its power button - it looks physically the exact same thing in real life.

While a certain amount of contrast is necessary to create depth in non-flat design, flat design can use any amount of contrast. Accordingly, the amount of contrast is irrelevant to the relative flatness, except insofar as it creates the illustion of depth.

The symbol used on a power button is itself an abstraction, so the use of this symbol in a graphic context need not suggest skeumorphism. It would be skeumorphic only if it was designed to look like an actual, physical button, for example by adding the illusion of shadow. That was not done here; the effect is therefore not skeumorphic.

please don't pretend to know what that s word means....
