I hate the smaller call button and moving the slide to open bar to the top makes it harder to open quickly for people with smaller hands. Please go back the the "bar" call button and slide bar the way it used to be.

Other than those two things, I like the changes.

Stop this joke!

Enough is enough!
Apple give us back the old pixel-perfect, lickable iOS or I will NEVER buy any Apple thing again. And I'm an Apple user since 1986.
This is beyond ridiculous. If this is the new Apple I'll soon switch to Android.

Moving slide to open bar to the top for what and where?

You might want to investigate jailbreaking and using f.lux
It allows programmable hues and tints for night time use.
A new accessibility option for white point seems to help a bit with that kind of thing too.

iPad and iPhone were SUBSTANTIALLY improved with the iOS 7 upgrade ....
iOS 7 IS an improvement, whatever you think about it.

You sound very sure of yourself, so you are no doubt able to explain the overwhelming number who disagree. Are they all wrong and should adopt only your opinion?.
Are increased app crashes an improvement? Is severe operational latency an improvement?

I was on MSO forever and for smartphones went with Android. I made the big switch last year and moved to the Apple platform. I purchased a MBP, iPad and iPhone and I love my devices. I was quite impressed with UI of iOS 6 as it was classy and stylish to me.

I only updated to iOS 7 because I was a newbie with regard to updates and the claim that new features would be a lot better and devices would run faster etc. I don't mind some U.I. changes if changes have to be made to usher in iOS 7.

My devices do run better, but the U.I. changed way too drastically and I'm disappointed. I use Reminders, Calendar, Notes, and iBooks all the time and I still can't get used to white everywhere. It's just too much glare. Reminders is still a piece of crap. Notes can have a little more warmness to the screen and some added features would be nice. The green Messages bubble and white print is horrible because I have to use bold. Looks childish. I'm not ragging for the sake of it. I've already sent numerous feedback to Apple.

As I understand it, the overall white can now be toned down in this beta. That's better. From the images on this thread, the green is toned down. If possible, can someone put up an image of the Messages bubble, and does it have an option for black print?

I still don't understand why the "Shuffle" and "Repeat" buttons are text-based buttons when there are perfectly good, universally recognized symbols for both of those things. That's like turning the play button into a rectangle that just says "PLAY" on it.

I have spent something like £13,000 ($20,000?) on apple products over the past maybe 7 years so I'm not an apple-basher for the sake of it. Simply ditching all my ios devices would be expensive - although ios7 prompted me to go buy an Android tablet to assess the viability.
iOS6 was capable of fulfilling my expectations and 7 should represent improvements in every respect but it most certainly doesn't. I mainly resent the fact that apple now consider owners to be beta testers and their exponentially increasing control-freakery prevents you downgrading if you're not happy. This is unacceptable behaviour and will ultimately drive rational consumers away.
On my iphone 4, I can have up to a 4 second lag with some functions that were virtually instantaneous before ios7. (no, restoring has no affect...). Clearly ios7 was released while still exhibiting beta performance levels, and after 4 updates there are still serious issues. How is that acceptable? If I were permitted to install ios6 on devices that are my own property I wouldn't be typing right now......
Not giving an option to downgrade isn't thing with Apple though. It is debatable whether or not Apple "should" do this or not. But the fact is that they do and they have always done so. I cannot recall any major iOS version that you could downgrade from if you didn't back up your previous version. You, being an experienced Apple product owner, should have known this and backed it up. It's not like Apple tricked you or coerced you into the upgrade with an expectation that you could "downgrade". You are blaming Apple for something they have been doing since iOS 2.0.

BTW, regarding your iPhone 4 lag - one of my friends also had this issue with her iPhone 4. Texting was particularly problematic. I performed a complete reset of her phone and the problem went away. Certainly not as zippy as the 5S, but usable. YMMV.

That's like saying you don't like Obamacare, so you're moving to Canada.

At least it got some basics better (maps, voice recognition), it's not purposely castrated and above all Android phones COST LESS.

I bought Apple products because their software was reliable and a PLEASURE to use. With iOS 7.xx, not anymore. I'm start worrying also about OS X (snow leopard remains the best OS X to date)

Overwhelming number ? A bunch of forum whiners ? They are going to complain whatever Apple does.
A white keyboard ? They whine about a black.
A round button ? They whine about a square.
A translucent menu ? They whine about an opaque.

Notification center is an improvement.
Control center is an improvement.
More efficient multitasking is an improvement.
AirDrop is an improvement.
Selectable apps with data access is an improvement.
....
I can go on quite a bit ...

iOS 7 just needs to be refined, and they are working on it.

To be fair, seeing what Apple has been fixing and changing kind of implies there were enough issues to justify the people complaining about them, and which are somewhat more than just the usual "refinement" that goes on in x.x.x or even x.x releases.

I'm not saying iOS 7 is perfect.
Far from being perfect.
But surely is an improvement from any previous version.
Like iOS 6 was an improvement from iOS 5.

Then why aren't you using Android? I'm sincerely asking.

That would be quite a trick since I was born in 1973 (see my username) and Apple was founded in 1977.

What part of iOS do you feel is not suited for iPad usage?

I've considered android

I've been an original iPhone user since the beginning

Might be worth checking out

It's hard to say that it's an improvement for everyone. Those who don't really care for various new features (and not everyone really cares about all or even most of them), might not see the rest of it all as an improvement over something they already like and have working just fine on the device they have, especially in the light of the existing issues, of which there are more than there were in previous versions.

No one is saying that it was perfect as it was. But the complaints about changes of color shades or button shapes are a little ridiculous and to me, seem whiny. These are subjective design decisions. I don't necessarily think each one is awesome or even necessary, but I'm willing to go along with whatever Apple's designers choose as long as it doesn't worsen the functionality. I really don't see too many huge missteps in design decisions by Apple. Certainly not worse than other companies.

IMHO, complaints about WiFi drop-out or battery life are valid reasons to complain or to even get upset. Different shades of green? Really?

There are a dozen of new features ... is there someone who doesn't care for any ?
It could be ... Maybe there is people satisfied by iOS 4, who knows, but this doesn't change the fact that iOS 7 is an improvement.
Not for everyone, but in a general sense it is.

I encourage it since iOS usage seems to make you quite upset. No tech device is worth getting this upset over. Esp since it would cost you only a few hundred dollars to change it. And before you do, check out the Android forums and see if everyone there is completely happy with their device.

Some people will always insist the glass is half empty. It's fine if you think that, but don't insist that the rest of us are delusional for being quite happy with the glass being half-full.

As subjective and as little as those complaints might have been, it seems that Apple is taking the time to address them in one way or another for some reason, making it seem like they were actually important enough (again, despite being subjective and somewhat inconsequential).

However, I agree that stability, functional, and user experience issues are the actual important ones in scope of everything overall.

Well, I can't see anything negative in Apple trying to address also cosmetic issues ...
iOS 7 was a strong departure from previous iOS versions, so design wrong decisions were hardly unexpected.

Could someone check and see if they have fixed this !@#!@# bug in 7.1?

On a given app, e.g. a game or navigation app, you can turn off cellular data. However, everytime I start the game, or say Navigon, it says:
"Cellular data is turned off for this app. Open settings to turn it on."

Of course it is off! I set it off! Stop throwing up a dialog every time I open the app!

There is no way to tell it that you intended to have it off.

This is especially problematic in podcasts.

it's fixed

How about allowing for some choice of what the user wants in the UI instead of what Apple pushes?
Again, this has ALWAYS been Apple's way. If choice is the most important thing, then go with Android (even though they don't give you 100% control over the UI either).

Apple limits *some* aspects of the UI for 4 reasons (IMHO):
1) They try to maintain a certain minimum design flavor that is distinctly Apple.

2) Reducing options simplifies Settings which, quite frankly 90% of smartphone users need, and restrict it to things that are more about functionality (turning WiFi on/off, turning on/off Notifications).

3) It reduces the potential for certain problems with the UI that can occur when the user is allowed to much control. It also allows the OS to maintain consistency with app UI's (within certain limits). Note that even Google tries to guide developers to design things a certain way. The Google way. http://developer.android.com/design/get-started/principles.html

4) Makes it easier to troubleshoot problems when they arise. This should be obvious why.

Well, ****! I didn't know that about Apple. Duh! Maybe I should have done MORE research! Why would I blow my money and go back to Android? I just got my devices last frigging year!

I was happy with my devices prior to the update!
