What else would anyone expect or even want in a beta 4 update?

It's a .1 update that is coming. What I would expect is substantive additions. For example, for the dialer - integrating a search function like the Nexus 5. Adding a "+" sign, really?

How about some other substantive additions like maybe adding the ability to add videos to your photostream (like Google does with Google +).

How about fixing maps so you can actually zoom in and out so you know where the heck it is taking your or can plan some alternate routes along the way?

There are a whole host of things that can and should be done with a .1 update considering how underwhelming the actual 7.0 was.

Try Again

I know everyone has noticed the "> slide to unlock" change, but has anyone determined if the "try again" after an improper fingerprint read is consistent?

WOW! new slide to power off animation? This really is a major overhaull of the iOS. Cant waint for iOS 7.2 and a new animation for increasing/lowering volume.

You are aware that the real progressions in terms of usability is reserved for the major transitions from iOS 7 to iOS 8 etc, right?

The in-between updates are to remove bugs, make small incremental changes to design and functionality. Why complain about this? Do you not have a purpose in live other than waiting for iOS updates and subsequently complaining that it doesn't solve your problems?

A X.1 update means different for iOS and Android. (4.0 on Android was released on 2011)...

You can't add videos to PhotoStream but you can create a Shared Stream and add videos to it... It won't automatically upload them but I believe it's better that way...

Well, what I was certainly hoping for in 7.1 was a new call slider, not a fix for the endless Safari crashing to the home screen on my iPad Air.

Neat.

Does Apple even read/respond to bug/crash reports anymore?

It's pretty obvious based on the contents of each list. Top Grossing includes free apps (with IAP), and Paid has no free apps whatsoever. While the active item could be made clearer, this example doesn't work so well.

If only there weren't paid apps in both lists! Still, the heading of content should be clear, you shouldn't need to scan the content to know. It's bad design if you have to scan content, as it's bad design if you have to add text to an icon.

Why is that better? Why should I manually have to intervene to get videos onto my Mac? I don't have to with photos, why should videos be treated differently (and if you want to treat video differently a simply toggle switch to turn it off would suffice).

Pretty telling as to who is innovating and giving substantive and useful tools for productivity. I didn't even mention "Google Now" vs "Today".

"Today" is probably the most half baked implementation that came with iOS7. Surely we aren't going to have to wait to iOS8 until that becomes useful.

i really wish they fix the music(song) slider on the lock screen...
Its nearly impossible to hold and scroll through a song.......it always wants to move the lock screen...

the scroll thing is thin little bar,,,please apple make it something that can be easily grabbed by the thumb like the old style round knob....

f#$#$# apple and their ideas about trying to make everything thin..

changes with a purpose are good but changes for changes sake are the worst. like my "complaints" about the dialer. what improvement do the changes bring?
I think that we have to remember that Apple hasn't really changed anything.

These are betas and this is the time for them to try different things.

regarding control center then better yet let us choose what we want to fill it with. we are not all the same, we dont dress the same but all of us need only the same options in control center?

i dont know if apple is afraid to be shown to be out of touch by seeing what the users would do if they could easily customize more
That would be great and I do think that in time they will have some more options available. The whole Control/Notification Centre (iOS 7) looks like the minimal they found reasonable to get it out of the door for the OS launch.

Most of us I think would settle for actual stability/performance improvements that are there to address all kinds of things that aren't quite right in 7.0, over much less important shiny new things.

That, and you aren't likely to get much of anything new in a beta 4 release as they should really be winding down the testing and not changing much at all by that point.
These updates remind me of like, well the engine keeps exploding, leaving the occupants stranged on the freeway, but we have been working on changing the direction of the grain of the leather on the back headrest
Well, what do you know, they actually did address a lot of those "engine" and stability type of issues, so sounds like the update is in fact doing what you think it should be doing.

That power off slider is completely random to every other slider on the phone, what are they doing, everything is getting un-uniformed, I want them to make the lock screen status bar the same as the main one on the homescreen
Agree with this. The small difference in status bar size is quite upsetting. As is the differing visual weight between the status bar icons, pre iOS7 they were so balanced...
There is a reason that is fairly rational for the slightly differently sized status bars on locked vs unlocked screen.

I don't understand why they don't use the same 'button' for 'slide to unlock' as they will be using for 'slide to turn off'. It's so annoying that if i want to increase my volume when playing music from the lockscreen, I end up unlocking the phone. That's just bad design. Or make it at least so, that you can only unlock by sliding on the 'slide to unlock' sentence and not the whole screen.

For the most part, I like iOS 7, maybe a bit more then iOS 6, but there are still too many things that are uneven or sloppy.
While I would like those type of changes on the lock screen, they made it the way it is in iOS 7 to simplify things and allow people to unlock simpler/faster.

Let's hope they don't forget to change that light yellow font color for links in the Notes app. Under certain light conditions you can't read it for lack of contrast - Or even better: User configurable font colors and sizes!

If you use the darken colors accessibility option it will actually make that quite readable.

These do seem like absurd, micro-management style changes. Apple seems stuck when it comes to iOS evolution--they don't want to introduce large feature-set changes that would give users more control over the UI or would allow inter-app communication (breaking the tight sandbox scheme), so they make these microscopic superficial UI tweaks.

Nope.

If everyone is busy making everything
How can anyone perfect anything?
We start to confuse convenience with joy
Abundance with choice
Designing something requires focus
The first thing we ask is
What do we want people to feel?
Delight. Surprise. Love. Connection.
Then we begin to craft around our intention
It takes time
There are a thousand no’s for every yes
We simplify. We perfect. We start over
Until everything we touch enhances each life it touches
Only then do we sign our work
Designed by Apple in California

What?

I have to imagine that most of the team is working on iOS 8 now considering how long ago iOS 7 was released. Those working on 7.1 betas are probably working on projects for iOS 8 too.
