Has anyone noticed (an increase in) a spinning data icon appearing by the carrier name on top while they are on one of their home pages when the phone shouldn't really be doing anything?

I've come across this a couple or so times before, but I already encountered this a few times just in the past few days since installing iOS 7.1 beta 5. It basically happens when nothing is or should be happening on the phone (even with background refresh disabled and all apps closed).

(A restart usually gets rid of it, but that doesn't quite explain what it's doing there to begin with, especially now that it's coming up more frequently than before.)

I have been noticing this since Beta 4. No idea what might be triggering it, and it remains even when closing all apps and disabling background refresh. I have monitored activity using Xcode Instruments but haven't noticed anything abnormal. But it would still be nice to find out what it is.

. . . .
Siri
Notes
This seed adds new natural-sounding Siri voices for English (Australia), English (United Kingdom), Japanese, and Chinese (Mandarin - China).

The iOS device initially uses a compact voice for Siri. After you have configured a Wi-Fi network and have the device connected to a power source, iOS will automatically download and install a higher quality version . . . .

At last the Siri voices for the UK including the female option promised within 4 months of Siri's initial intro to iOS - a long 4 months that!

Yeah except that's not a viable option for the masses. Probably gonna go back to 7.0.4 for now. The other betas actually increased my battery a bit until now.

Why not? it takes like 3 minutes to do and is known to solve various issues after an upgrade. Not sure why that is not a "viable option". I certainly would try that before going back to 7.0.4. 7.1 is SO much better even though still beta. But up to you.

While I do agree the betas have been very very good there are still a couple things that still annoy the hell out of me.

Animations: While everything has been sped up, the unlock animation is just not as fast as it should be in comparison to other animations like opening apps. The whole "HEY GUYS WATCH ME ANIMATE WHILE UNLOCKING YOUR DEVICE" is getting really old even on the betas.

iPad: Wallpapers that are your own get REALLY blown up when setting them in landscape, doesn't happen with the apple wallpapers though....weird. And no I'm not talking about the parallax but rather some other weird bug.

iPad pinch: Unlike 7.0.4, in 7.1 when exiting an app inside a folder using the pinch gesture, you have to wait about 2 seconds to be able to tap and exit that folder back to the home screen. Not sure why others aren't annoyed by this.

Also while the pinch to home screen animation is "smoother" it now is not live but rather the pre-canned animation that makes you wait till its finished. 7.0.4 while a little choppy responded to your actual pinch. So if you pinch fast, the animations was fast. Not the case in 7.1.

So while its faster in some areas, its slower in others. I could care less how fast my apps and folders zoom. There should be ZERO WAITING to do anything when unlocking, yet we still have to wait for that stupid animation to finish. But hey look your apps fly in quicker!!! Hold on gotta wait for that nice unlocking animation. Which is why I just turned it off on my Phone.

Can anyone confirm that Reminders sync between iOS and Mac? I always have to open the calendar on my iPhone to update the Reminders.

First impression after reading the change log and having a look at the installed beta:
Nothing changed :)
Seems that it´s just fixing bugs.

And thats not change?

I have noticed that IOS7.1 struggles when reception is poor. To the point that the battery runs down and the phone heats up.

Its as if it no longer has any smarts to stop as it did in IOS6 under which this never happened.

I actually did experience poor battery and heat on 6. When my classes were in a lower level at college my battery would drain 20% in an hour. Airplane mode safes lifes.

Here's an extremely short video of Siri's new UK voice. It does sound very natural.

New UK Siri on YouTube

Looking forward to seeing a longer video & also one showing the female voice option (if that is indeed available in the UK).

Reminders and calendar events push to the device or the mac within 30 seconds to 1 minute of adding them for me. Mavericks and 7.1b5

Still loads of bugs.

2 biggest is buttons overlapping on stuff like music playlists. Also the other bigger one is as your watching or listening to something if you get a phone. Call when you answer the call it keeps playing the audio.

----------

Buttons merging on music playlists needs to be fixed but theres a new huge audio bug.

If watching vid or listening to music and get a phone call when you answer the audio keeps playing.

Did you report them to apple?

Anyone else notice that some calendar entries, namely birthdays that are stored in contacts info, sometimes disappear from the notification screen. I have 2 contacts birthdays today and they were not showing up. I had to reboot for them to show on the notifications menu. I noticed this also happening in beta 4 as well.

Amazingly stable, great battery life but sometime my iPhone gets pretty hot.

passwords?

Anyone noticing that iCloud and all email accounts randomly ask for passwords again with beta 5?

Yep, I've noticed this in past 7.1 betas as well.

Silly question but I figure I'd ask..I understand that the green color for the messages icon is a bit darker, but are the bubbles for text messages also a darker green? I would hope so..it's kind of bright in 7.0.4 and a little too neon for me...

Just thought I'd ask you guys since I don't have a beta developer account thing-a-ma-jiggy
