iOS 7.1 Feedback

i was really hoping they would have got rid of that nasty lag presented through the notification bar pulldown and control center pull up on the lockscreen as it has been there since 7.1 beta 3 (no lag whatsoever on 7.0) am i the only one experiencing this lag on the lockscreen? i am very surprise Apple didnt fix this as i have never experience lag like this on iOS and only Android. Not a HUGE issue but of course its something that should be addressed.

I am on a black iPhone 5 by the way.

I'm on the same type of iPhone but I don't have any lag in lock screen when accessing control center or notifications.

Not even the slightest stutter when accessing control center? Its much more noticeable when I'm listening to music and I'm using my cell phone network instead of wi fi. Did you do a clean install of 7.1?

----------

That keyboard lag when rotating the phone with keyboard displayed is still there as well. Any 5s users experience this?

I don't have a big data plan, so I don't stream over the cell network. I do stream over WiFi though, and this does not seem to produce even the slightest lag in Control Center. Not a clean install either: I pludged from 7.0.6 directly to 7.1.

There must be some configuration difference that explains the different results we are seeing for this update.

Very interesting. Do you have everything stock when it comes to the animations and keeping the transparency on? Also on the lock screen when you swipe up and down on the notification shade and control center, do you keep you're fingering on the screen or do you flick? I notice the lag when I flick either one, just not as smooth and fast as on the home screen.

iPad 3 / iPhone 5 / iOS 7.1 / OTA Upgrade from 7.0.6

I noticed an odd experience on both my iPad 3 and iPhone 5 after OTA upgrading both from 7.0.6 to 7.1

7.0.6 Reduce Motion OFF = Stutters.
7.0.6 Reduce Motion ON = No Stutters.

7.1 Reduce Motion OFF = No Stutters.
7.1 Reduce Motion ON = Stutters

Did Apple just improve the Standard Default (Reduce Motion OFF) Animation, at the expense of previously improved Reduce Motion ON Animation?

This is especially noticeable when using the Multitasking/App Switching Mode.
It was much smoother on 7.0.6 than 7.1.

Would someone please share your experiences with this, and relate any similarities and differences?

Thanks.

iPad Air, major improvement with 7.1 so no complaints. The only stuttering I get on my Air is when I enable assistive touch. That's when i'll notice a slight stutter in the UI. Nothing major. Hopefully iOS 8 will fix that.

It still has kinks that need to be worked out.

  • Weather in NC to show the temp ALL THE TIME.
  • Keyboard.
  • Music App & its layout.
  • Control Center and the Play button - it tries to play from the last source of audio.
  • Animations.
  • Opening App from a folder.
  • The sliding of tiles when trying to close an app.

  • Still no "forward" option in Notes
  • The layout of the Photos app is still terrible.
  • When your phone is locked & your alarm goes off, there is no "dismiss" button. Once you swipe, all your notifications disappear until you pull down N.C.

  • STILL can't set a photo I took as a wallpaper without it zooming in.
  • I still occasionally have notifications disappear without clearing them (using phone, get a text, continue using the phone, check N.C., notification isn't there)

7.1 very smooth so far on my 5s. Fingerprint sensor seems MUCH better, it was terrible before.

Gripes:
Calendar still doesn't show appointments in monthly view, only those stupid dots. Even with the combined list/month view I stillhave to click on each day to see what's going on and can't get a sense of what's going on the entire month. I will continue to use Calendars by Readdle which shows appointment descriptions on monthly view.

Dialer: Uggghhh. Still with the white on off white dialer, it's awful and my eyes still hurt from the last time I tried to dial in the dark. They also made some stuff on the dialer smaller, I have no idea why, it's not like they needed the space or anything. For example, the hide button now is tiny little text on the lower right instead of the nice big button it was before, why? Also the end button is a much smaller button as well. Why streamline things just for the sake of streamlining them with no tangible benefit?

Anyhow it's an ok update, I'm happy with the fingerprint sensor enhancements but feel as if many of the things they broke with 7.0 still haven't been addressed.

I don't know whether we're referring to the same thing but, since updating to 7.1 on my iPad 4, all animations related to the app switcher are gone when in reduced motion mode. When I try to open up the app switcher, it freezes for 1-2 seconds as if an invisible animation is taking place, and then it suddenly opens the switcher screen. Same thing happens when selecting app from the app switcher.

Opening apps from the home screen fade in ok though.

I opened a topic about this yesterday

Thank you for your response.

Sorry, I did not see your thread, but appreciate you sharing it with me.

Yes, I believe that is what I'm referring to. 7.0.6 Reduce Motion ON had a nice fade when entering/exiting Multitasking/App Switching mode, and now with 7.1 Reduce Motion ON, the fade is gone, and there is only an odd 2 second "unresponsive" delay between a user input and any visual feedback, which just shows/hides the Multitasking/App Switching mode without any animation at all.

Personally, I like a lot of what Apple did in 7.1, but I wish they still had a nice, subtle, fast fade when entering/exiting the Multitasking/App Switcher mode, without the 2 second "unresponsive" delay that exists now.

I'll make sure to read your thread to see what others are saying about this.

Thanks again!

So we're definitely talking about the same bug. I didn't have any problems with the old animations in reduced motion mode but fade would be ok too if it worked.

The amount of people mentioned this bug is surprisingly low, so I'm starting to think that this does not happen on most devices.

We should somehow report this.

7.1 update kills my battery

Everything seems to be running faster on our 4s phones but the battery life for lack of a better word, SUCKS.

You can feel free to report this, and please let me know what they say.

There are so many millions of average consumers that leave their "diagnostic" settings on, and some Apple employees read these forums, so I normally just assume that Apple is aware of this situation, and will change it if they want to. Usually, that is the case.

Apple could have just changed their mind and decided that "Reduce Motion: ON = no animation at all on specific devices."

For now, I plan to wait a few days to see what others say about this, before resetting all settings, and possibly reformatting/reinstalling 7.1 as "a new device" from iTunes to see if it makes any difference. Of course, I'll make sure to share with you if it helped or not.

Please keep me posted on your progress as well.

Thanks.

No, I don't think that this was intentional. They changed the zoom in/out animations to fade in/out. They didn't remove them. I'll wait for a few days to see how things will go. They'll probably be made aware of this very soon.

Does anyone know where I can report this when I have to?

Been using 7.1 on my 16GB 5S since it came out now and I have zero complaints. Battery life feels like the same as before, haven't found any bugs and inconstancies. So I am very happy. I just hope iOS 8 returns back to smooth iOS updates that are bug free.

Yes, unfortunately the fast balance app hasn't been updated in almost 2 years (still not designed for the taller iPhone screens!). Bound to be issues as iOS updates and they don't. Think they have abandoned it...

The one where you can transfer money, etc? I do use that, but it's a pain having to enter your secret answer and certain digits of your password every time, just to check the balance.

Someone at HSBC must of seen your post lol

Has anyone been seeing a slight delay when tapping the share button in the photos app? I'll hit the share button and have to wait up to 2 seconds for the window to pop up for me to share anything.

It happens on my iPad Air as well although not as frequently. It happens much more consistently on my 5S, never had it (or noticed it) during the betas. I've done a clean install on both and it still remains. Other than this minor annoyance though everything is flawless.

Edit: only seems to happen when I open Photos from afresh, after it's been closed manually from multitasking.

I love this update. My 5S screams with 7.1 installed. I really like the new slider when receiving a call and the animation that comes with it. The speed when closing out and switching apps is also nice. But I think the biggest improvement came with my iPad 4 and which is almost seems like the graphics improved and my screen just appears more beautiful than ever. I have no idea, maybe it's a placebo effect but I swear the display is clearer than was previously. Also the scrolling is so smooth now it's like silk. I thought it was fine before on 7.0.x but on 7.1 it now has me remembering that there was lag and jitters in the scrolling before.

This the iOS 7 Apple was striving for.

I've noticed that the time that my iPad Air takes to wake up after the battery dies has improved incredibly, took a few seconds after I plugged it in for me to be able to use it, whereas before it would take a couple minutes or much more.
