While I would agree that Apple appears to have done an excellent job so far with iOS7 the icon design, while not as bad as many paint it, is rather muddled from a design perspective and needs work to create what could be considered a consistent well designed set of icons. Personally I am not too fussed about the icons as long as the functionality is solid behind them.

Why do you think the design is muddled? Maybe you didn't try iOS7, or you're stuck in the rules. Some rules are meant to be broken if it's done with some class. They're classy.

hahahaah since when have the icons been of so much importance?

It is only for some icons that might not "look" nice, but the overall UI is really nice and besides, when a different BG is applied and your own apps or on the homepage of your device it looks much different, also only stock apps have the icons that some of you dread...

screw the icons and everything else mentioned... just please please deal with the battery issue. I really like iOS 7 and I think its a big improvement in so many ways, but after several weeks of using betas 1 and 2 I had to revert back to iOS 6.1.4. My battery was taking a beating. And yes I did "clean installs", etc.

I finally feel like i have my iPhone 5 back!

Before I decided to downgrade back to iOS 6, I was getting roughly 2 hours of usage by 45-50% battery (beta 2, iphone 5). I've been back on iOS 6 for 1 day and right now I'm at 45% with 4.5 hours usage! What a huge difference.

I'll probably end up with close to (or more than) 8 hours of usage.

with iOS 7 beta 2 I could never even reach 4 hours of usage.

Screw fixing the ICONS.

Fix the calendar!!!! The new default view stinks. Switching to a month view and not seeing any indication of what days have things scheduled stinks. And the notification center sucks for calendar events as well. It does not list full day tasks, only shows 5 hours worth of hourly tasks, and rather than showing me what's on tap for tomorrow, it tells me I have 2 all day events scheduled. Instead of taking up two lines to tell me that, why not show me the 2 events!!

I swear people are complaining about ICONS when functionality needs addressed.

I agree about the month view issue. I always view calendar in month view and if it doesn't indicate when I have jobs or appts booked so I can tell a client whether I'm free to do their event, it's pretty useless to me.

That latter part is completely subjective - you may as well force people to 'like' a piece of art just because you think it's perfect as it is. I really don't like some of the new icons myself and it's not because I'm attached to the current ones.

Also, I didn't realise that icons were synonymous with a particular century...

3D "lifelike" icons are pretty much 90's, when they were actually everywhere.

Black UI please :D

^This. I have jb'en my devices and always used the black navigation bars, Safari, etc. It isn't for aesthetics sake, it's easier to navigate. The white is an interesting change, but the emphasis on white and grey app backgrounds, etc make it more difficult to operate even with brightness set very low and contrast increased.

See my post at #97 for more.

I wouldn't say there is anything new and inovative enough to make people run and sell their Android phones and buy an iphone if they currently prefer Android devices.

Technically they have just caught up to some android features and actually did it less intuitively. Instead of just having on simple pull down for all notifications and togles the pull down has three tabs today, all, and missed (the missed one I don't get shouldn't just all fall under all?) and then you have to pull up for the toggles.

Animated wallpapers are a nice touch but again Android already has this.

They have added some swipe gestures in messages and mail which are clunky and feel less intuitive.

I like the new weather app and animated clock icon hopefully the weather icon becomes a live icon as well in the final additon.

Whether you like the rest of the other icons and new white gui or not is subjective. I'm personally not a big fan but its also not a dealbreaker for me anyway.

What ios still has going for it is overall simplicity and intuitiveness, the most reponsive keyboard and I've used swiftkey and swype for android and an app that I couldn't live without Mailbox.

What Android has going for it is openess, better notification/setting pull down, more customization (biggest one for me is being able to set different notification sounds for different applications)

I wish I could fast forward to next year with a fully baked ios 7, iphone 6 vs. the newest version of android and best Android device. Should be fun. :p

iOS 7, which is in beta stage, is working better than my laggy previous Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2. It also looks a lot better.

The rest I can live without, expect for the fact that I could easily replace batteries.

Yes, icons, as well as paintings, architecture, fashion, etc. anything that has to do with design is synonymous with a particular century.

Dude, this is a beta. Nothing more. Its for devs to test their apps and for Apple. If the Icons are not that beautiful, thats might be why. Wait for the GM version

No, betas don't change visually, they are more to fix bugs and performance, if any we will see just a small change in one or two icons, but iOS 7 icons are mainly final, if any change is made, it will still be flat and within this colors and design.

Absolutely. It would be extremely uncommon and rare, especially for Apple, to switch overall UI. Tweaking and adjusting it for improved workflow and accessibility may happen, but the overall design that was announced at the WWDC Keynote will remain.

Photo album and game center icon desperately need changes. If you show them to people never heard of ios7, no one would associate them with photos or games.

Settings and Camera looks boringly gray and non interesting.

In case you didn't notice, it says "Photos" and "Game Center" under those icons, so unless people can't read, people will know what they are for.

Really? Never had those models but my S3 was waaaay more stable and less buggy than either of the ios 7 betas but that was to be expected. I've had things crash on both ios and Android maybe a little less often on ios but on either platform I would just restart and the problem goes away so I consider that a moot point.

I didn't notice much lag on my S3 but I'm thinking a pure Android device would probably be less laggy.

I'll throw in having an sd card slot is nice to have as well but not all Android devices have this. Nor do they all have removeable batteries.

Please fix the horrid icons :(
Because the current icons are vastly superior?? Why do I get the feeling these complaints come from Android users who get some kind of sadistic enjoyment out of needling Apple users?

I never understood how some Android fans can find the energy and will to come to an Apple forum to complain about Apple products. I'd find it a complete waste of my life to go to an Android forum to tell them why they shouldn't use Android.

I've been using iOS7 for awhile and I have to say when I first saw it, I didn't like it, and the first beta was a mess, but beta 2 has been stable for me and the look of it has grown on me a lot. I think the color palette is nice and I love the way the interface flows.. I think this is a huge win for users.
