Actually it's a very well thought out change. You can finally refresh a page where you're reading and have it reload at the same spot. 'Bout freaking time!

"Actually it's a very well thought out change." Apart from the double tap, so not a well thought out change.

One bug: the sound comes in and out occasionally, as it might when a notification sounds.
The other day i was fiddling with Siri to make a call while music was playing in the background. Usually when calling the music fades out. Somehow i managed to have the music not fading out, but continue playing at low volume in the background while making the call, which was a really nice experience - would like to have that as a feature!

When has "X" ever meant cancel?
<Indiana Jones:> "'X' never, ever marks the spot." [SCNR ;)]

So, still horrible icons, still soul-less interface, still cheap transition effects.

Apple fan since 1986, thinking of leaving the platform...
Funny you say that - pondering the same in regards of Mac. iOS devices may follow due to iOS7. Wonder if Apple might lose customers on a bigger scale...

So what am I missing here? When has Bluetooth required a "touch" between devices? Do the new iPhone and ATV finally have NFC?
They exclude iPhone 4 and iPad 2, so it's most probably related to Bluetooth 4.0 (as others have already written). I wonder if non-BT 4.0 devices may be excluded from other functionality in the future as well.

I am not sure about this one, I didn't see it in ios 7 beta 3 - when you access maps (Apple Maps) when you zoom in/out it now has an indicator at the top, I gather it's like an indicator on how high it's above from the location you are searching on.

It is black and white in color and appears on the top left.

Note it fades in and out.

That's the scale of the map, which is usually shown in the corner of normal maps to indicate how far something is on the map so you can determine distance and scale. Nice feature

Why are you considering leaving OSX, Mavericks is the first real update since Snow Leopard. What would you use instead?

iPhone4?

Hello everyone.
First of all thanks for posting all these tidbits. I won't install beta software on my phone, but it's very nice to read all about it!
I'm wondering if my iPhone4 will be able to run iOS7 properly... Apple says so, but can anyone here shed a light on the performance (knowing that iOS7 isn't yet optimized and contains debugging code etc..)?
Thanks!

You Americans are becoming a dump lot as you now need Siri to show you how to ask question correctly.

And you write from New Zealand, a country full of inventors...

You should. Apparently, Windows 8 is a paradise. Or move to Linux, so many apps for that...

Never mind, I found this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1594030/ on iPhone4.

Viewing Message Times In iMessage

I don't know if this was mentioned, or even a part of the Beta or update, but I did notice that when in the Messages app, looking at a conversation, you can slide your finger to the left on the screen and you can view all the times that your messages were sent and received. It always bothered me that I was not able to see what time I sent or received particular messages in a conversation and stumbled upon this one by complete accident and very happy that I did so I thought I would post it here for those of you out there that were not aware of this feature. You can see an example from the photo I've attached to this post.

Yes its been there in the previous beta.

Not sure if everyone has experience this but the wallpaper looses its dimension.

Image one is the dynamic wallpaper looks and works fine.

Image two normal static wallpaper cannot be resized looks blurred.

Yes, I have just noticed that - annoying, but yeh before anyone jumps on me, I understand this is just another beta...

Don't want to go offtopic here, so i'll send you a PM. In a nutshell: It's a question of leaving the hardware platform rather than OSX.

Don't know if anyone has posted this already, but you can undo the change that Messages only show first letter of contact last name under settings - email, contacts, calendars - short names. Disable short names and it should be like before. Don't know if it's a bug that it changed default (before there was an option to show full names that was toggled on)

There is a setting that determines how names display in messages. This setting is under the contact settings for short name. If you turn off short names it will display the full name in the messages app. If short names are turned on you have 4 different options.

First Name & Last Initial
First Initial & Last Name
First Name Only
Last Name Only

There is also an option to prefer nicknames.

Just in case anyone was having issues trying to figure this one out, you need to go into Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Scroll Down to Contacts and Select "Short Name" to configure the options that you prefer as listed in the original post above.

Wallpaper image scaling is broken in iOS 7 beta 4. Try it...

I noticed this one myself this evening when trying to change my wallpaper. You can only move the images left and right or zoom in on them, You cannot zoom out nor move the images up and down.

Clock app does something goofy. If I set the alarm and then close the app (by swiping up), then open it again, focus no longer stays at the alarm tab. It's over to the timer tab. Never did that before

I don't know anything about iOS 7 and iPhone 4 but I can tell you just some experiences I made with previous iOS devices (I have/had them all since iPhone 3GS except iPad mini and except two iPhone versions).

A new iOS major update runs fine on old devices (if officially supported) but it slows them down on certain tasks and doesn't support all new features. Lots of users complain. In the next minor update the situation gets much better performance-wise (but not always so good as with the previous iOS version)—anyway, the advantages of the new operating system prevail by far. So it was from iPhone OS 4 up to iOS 6 as far as I remember.

I guess it will be (almost) the same with iOS 7. So if you're needing and operating urgently your iPhone 4 on a regular and daily basis better maybe wait for iOS 7.0.1 or iOS 7.1 or whatever…

Improvements!

Improve the keyboard experience on iOS 7, look at BlackBerry Z10 keyboard, is awesome and we want a keyboard with the same usability experience. Other thing is the multitasking pages on iOS 7, please make them available with a simple swipe to the right, one touch home button, main screen, swipe right and we have access to multitasking pages or when you swipe down to get search iPhone we could swipe up to get the multitasking pages, is much more simple and easy to manage than touch twice on the home button.

there's improvements on music app. when you select artist and play any song,it will play all the songs from the same artist, not like previous betas where they're limited to the album from the artist even we're on the artist tab.

when you go to Artist tab,you can play all the songs from all the albums of the artist you're playing. unlike the previous beta which you can only play from the same album even you're in Artist tab.
and also the pointer on the line runs smoother than before. and now when you clicked shuffle,it'll be boxed when you clicked in,unlike the previous beta that only bolding the words

Still can't shuffle in the Genre tab which is annoying.

Here is something I noticed but don't knowing it is new. On the dbl click / multitasking window onhe iPad you can close three apps at the same time. Multitouch works. Swipe 1, 2 or 3 apps up to close them at the same time.

I just tried that one myself and I must say, That's really cool and helps when I forget to close out a few apps, it certainly will speed things up a little bit. Thanks for the great tip.

Possibly/probably because it's still beta and this is something new.

No, it's "Cancel" because there's already an "X" button in the right side of the Search field to clear what you've typed in the field, so an "X" button just to the right of the existing button would be confusing and would appear redundant, even though there's different functionality. ("clear the field" versus "close the Search menu")

Why should anyone care?
If a company is serious about its customers, it should also care for understanding the reasons that make people (especially long-term users) leave the platform.

Otherwise it might miss the chance to recognize potential problems while they develop. Established platforms deteriorate over time, not over night.

For the same reason every serious platform fan should care to at least understand the motivation of long-term users pondering to leave - chances are that oneself is overlooking certain aspects and/or has become less critical over time.

Thanks for your reply. I was already planning to wait for the first patch before upgrading, but now I have more reason to do so.
