iOS 7 Beta 5 Tidbits: Icon Settings Redesign, New Control Center Options

iOS Mail 'Trash' button

Mostly happy with visual touches and more fluid performance, but one annoyance is they moved the 'Trash' button to bottom right from bottom left when selecting multiple emails to delete. They switched places with 'Mark' (I believe) and I still keep pressing 'Mark' when I want to just delete. Not sure what the thinking was behind that switch but my muscle memory having a hard time adjusting.

If you want to see an ugly icon, look at the camera app. In iOS6 the lens icon was simple and beautiful. But you cannot paint a recognizable lens without being at least a little bit realistic, because the shape of it is just a circle. But if you force yourself to use a flat look, you have to tell the whole story mostly by shape and objects that are just squares and circles become unrecognizable.

So the solution was to add the housing of a very old camera no one uses anymore. This is added skeuomorphism to overcome the problems of iOS7 new look. We now have high-resolution screens with millions of very accurate colors and Apple refuses to use them anymore. Imagine the ceiling of the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome painted with only a handful of different colors to give it a cleaner look.

Icon design has always been a strength of Apple and is now a deficiency.

A color wheel would be acceptable if I were opening photoshop, but guess what I'm not. The camera icon looks like, well a camera so I don't consider that lame, what would you suggest they use a picture of a 35mm Minolta instead?

Just press the home button once to display the time when the music is playing.

As to bringing up the music controls without music playing is not possible I don't think.

The downside is that it doesn't stay like that if the screen goes off--the default behavior is to have the controls right there right away, which is kind of backwards as far as the actual "lock" part of the lock screen is concerned.

I agree with you but that's the only way I know it can happen. iOS 7 is not official your yet so maybe that changes.

I'm stating a personal preference, which by definition cannot be "wrong".

symbology and iconography are different beasts than skeuomorpism. all of which have their use cases.

I didn't say it was skeuopmorphic - I said it was as bad as skeuomorphic.

Ugly Home Screen

Hate the look of my Home Screen, the translucent dock is huge, covering about 20% of my Home Screen Wallpaper. The page indicator (dots) is squeezed between the last row of icons and the translucent dock.

Hope Apple gives us the flexibility to adjust the height of the dock (at least).
 
Hey... So i was thinkin, now that in B5 there is the pull down available in notifications, there seems to be quite a bit of extra space surrounding the words. Do you think this extra space will be used for quick reply? And maybe they just haven't added the link, just the space the link will fit into? Just a thought?

Also... Is it just me or can you not share YouTube videos via message, Facebook, Twitter, etc.? Everytime I press share it just loads and doesn't take me to where I say..

Edit to the second half: I KNOW ITS A BETA! Just haven't seen it brought up
 
The new beta 5 doesn't have a tone anymore when its unlocked... Not nice actually, in my opinion...

Then why did you load (or is it follow news about) a beta?
 
this beta is the smoothest so far


every app works perfectly!
with the exception of the twitter app! it wont refresh, scroll up/down!!

anyone having the same problem??

Some users have pages of applications. Like ..8 pages. It's OK if you have just one or two pages. But even with 8 pages of apps, you can just swipe down on the screen (not slide from the top, that's another gesture for the calendar and stuffs).

what i'm trying to say was, I wish Apple would come up with the final design when they introduce the iOS 7. because for me the first impression is everything, but that is asking too much because obviously they have to make it in beta, release it to developers for feedback and such.

The UI looks like it's holding in place, even without seams, wood glue and rivets.
 
I noticed in iOS 7 beta 5... When booting, the spinning wheel is missing and boot times seem to have increased over iOS 7 beta 4. Anyone else observe this? I hope beta 6 resolves this problem.

The spinner was only there in the first couple of betas or so, and hasn't been there since (as really it shouldn't be). The longer boot times is something that some are experiencing with beta 5 for some reason, while others have fast boot times.
 
Why there is still no landscape mode for playing music videos in the MUSIC App?

It works good in iOS 6.

Where is it?
 
All birthday dates are set back 1 day in Contacts. The correct dates do appear in Calendar though.

Don't believe I had this under iOS 6. Just noticed it now under iOS 7 Beta 5.

Others have this as well? Surely is a bug.
 
Ever since i updated to the beta 5, I dont receive any notifications of text messages. It doesnt even show any numbers by the message icon on my home screen. I have to open the app up for it to show that I have new messages.
 
Ios 7 beta 5....... Wheres my facebook push notification, unlock sound, battery life, app store downloads and updates, itunes store downloads, imessage doesn't seem to run smoothly still many problems.
