Liking the aesthetic changes does not make one love iOS7. Live wallpapers, quick toggles, these are only parts of the Android OS. 3rd party apps as default, widgets, customized interfaces (i.e., keyboards) are just a few of the system level differences that aren't apart of iOS. These changes are largely superficial.

Hmm, this is only the first developer preview and you are already judging it.

And home screen widgets is a bad idea IMO. It just creates unnecessary clutter, and you'll need to exit the apps to see them. Thee are better ways, and iOS 7 seems to do it.

As for the customised interfaces, that's something for android users. If you want it, get an android phone. iOS is for people like me who couldn't care less about customising their interface. It's better to have choice than to have them both doing the exact same thing.

The main thing is that they liked it: the looks, the apps, the functionality, and the implementation.

Can the automatic update be set to WiFi only? Otherwise, it's begging to be disabled.

In settings for stores, there is a slider for "Use Cellular Data" which can be turned to off and states the cellular connection would be used for "Automatic Downloads (which updates is part of), iTunes Match, and iTunes Radio"

why are there the unnecessary visual effects?

one of the major differences between apple's stuff and everyone else's was
that apple did not necessarily added visual/UI attractions, just because they could do it, or the hardware was capable doing it.

those ridiculous attempts with the folding glass effects on the home screen in ICS, it just could not cope with the cuteness of elastic scrolling. it wasn't necessary either, however it really felt "natural". so was music app's tiny little polished aluminium volume control. (look, we can do this, but we won't do this everywhere. we hide our perfection in the details. kinda easter egg, you gotta look for it)

now they have the same useless "animated" background/lockscreen.
i was laughing as i heard some former android users whining about the
inability of using animated wallpapers after switching to iPhone. man, i
thought to myself, what a bunch of hypocrites, and now Sir John gives it straight into my face.

i really love the features. honestly, i even love the design of compass too, although i never used it more than 2-3 times since it has been introduced.

but the icons of Safari, Settings and them bold white icon borders are freaking me out.
say, maps was half baked or siri was half baked at the time of introduction.
then what should i say to this icon-madness? the eye-burning all whites?

i loved ios6's toggle switches. it felt like the real deal. now there is the ipod shuffle's plasticised lock switch design.
although the control centre's idea is great, i don't really like the dimmed/bolded "touch" toggles, cause it may be hard to see in bright areas. i know, and i understand, that they needed the space to fit all those controls into the half of the screen.

at least iOS and OSX L/ML had some sort of common visual experience. with ios7 on the horizon this is gone.

I I've an Apple TV hooked up to a Lilliput display in my car with an AT&T Elevate 4G.

Previously when you AirPlay Mirrored navigation to the AppleTV, Siri's voice would only play out the iPhone speaker. Hard to hear if you're also streaming Pandora as it wouldn't duck the sound. Pandora would play at 100% on AirPlay and Nav would play out of speaker on the iPhone.

Now, in iOS 7, Siri's voice ducks the iTunes Radio and announces Nav directions over my car speakers. A welcome addition. Looking forward to seeing if a FaceTime call's audio will also AirPlay mirror to the AppleTV, but obviously not while I'm driving...

why is there no button to close all apps?

it's on the top edge. hold it for couple of seconds and swipe right to turn the phone off. :-]

until i was pretty much ok with a tons of apps "running" "simultaneously".
not sure how it goes with real multitasking.
not sure if i really need *real* multitasking for my iphone/ipad, either.

lol! this is flawless logic.

How often are you unable to ping internet data for a refresh? Seriously? Quit drinking the WE DONT NEED WIDGETS Kool Aid.

I rather have the weather update also. I think Apple should give the user the option to have it live or not. If not it just stays at the Apple default weather icon if the user wants it on then it updates or says N/A or something when no connection is present or just keeps the last update displayed

Don't see the reason for the moving clock hands with the digital time is displayed on the screen in the status bar and quicker to tell the time off of

I love all these "Average Joe's" complaining about the design. Have you seen the Average Joe's house? They're typically hideous. I'll let you know whether I want your opinion on design. In the meantime, don't waste my time.

Alright, alright, I may have overreacted there, but come on people. What makes you think you know anything about design? Sure you're welcome to have an opinion (even if it's wrong), but present it as your opinion not as your well-reasoned factual observation.

1. What is unnecessary about displaying useful information that I'd like to see?
2. There's no need to copy Android's cluttered system, it's possible to design much cleaner way of displaying various information and shortcuts to quick actions that you can do without launching full app (like, for example, the Velox tweak for jailbroken devices)
3. Without widgets you not only need to exit the app to see the stuff you desire, but also launch a different app that shows it.
4. I don't think iOS 7 does anything that gives you quicker access to essential information and actions than normally launching apps. Well, there is control center which is very limited and not customizable, so it's not at all a replacement for widgets.

This.... would be a big help.

BTW not sure if anyone else has this issue but I frequently run my iPad off my iPhone's data via hotspot. I'll have hotspot turned on, but my iPad won't see the signal somehow. Need to toggle it on and off sometimes a few times for it to work right.

idk if this is common or maybe a hardware issue?

Hmm, works well for me. i5 plus wifi-only iPad minis and a Samsung Tab. Flick it on, wait a bit, connected. I am JBed, but with tetherme, which is just a bridge for the built in system.

These are nice. I noticed that having a different wallpaper instead of the default wallpaper in the initial release changes the overall look of the UI a lot. I think Apple should use a different default wallpaper in the public release. Also, they should redesign the Safari, Game Center, Photos, and Settings icons.

Elitist much? Just because you cannot afford to design a nice house doesn't mean you can't recognize well or poorly decorated home.

Similarly, just because one isn't trained in creating graphics doesn't mean one can't recognize a good or bad design.

I don't mind flat themes per se, but ios7 seems to be really lacking contrast, and the UI elements don't seem as intuitive as before. Furthermore, the icons are poorly designed. A flat icon doesn't necessarily have to be a poorly drawn icon.

Ahem. (Clears throat.)

"Newsstand can now be put inside a folder as well."

YAY!

Can we delete stocks now?

Who cares, just stick them in the back. Newsstand always ticked me off a little because I couldn't neatly put it in a folder with iTunes and Movies called "poop", but I shoved it in the back.

I really think a lot is going to change for final release. better icons based on the originals and better GUI as a whole. remember this is a beta.

Would love to know if you can reply/send/etc. to email or Twitter or FB from the Notification screen. This would get me to forego Intelliscreen X.

There are still some bugs, but overall it's decent for a beta. I still think the icons need some work and folders definitely need some work. A whole screen of gray squares doesn't look good. I don't know why they don't make it transparent.

I guess I was hoping for something similar to this: Image

I think icons with raised elements and shadows would look cool. Could add the perspective effect so the shadow changes based on the light sensor.

It's not awful but the Notes and Newsstand icons are a inconsistent with the rest of the icons; both look skeuomorphic, at least the Notes icon does.

So happy Apple Maps has a night mode now.

Oddly enough, I'm going to miss the current look of Apple Maps. I'm not a fan of skeuomorphism, but in the case of Apple Maps, I was a big fan. But I have confidence Ive and his team did an awesome job on the new version.

I think this is a pretty cool feature as well. Just wish they would add that to the rest of iOS so if you're in a car at night, dark restaurant, or even a movie theater even though you aren't supposed to be texting, the OS would darken up a bit and not blind you with all the white. I think the color scheme is great for daytime because of the contrast it will be easier to pick out things in bright light, but in dark settings not so much.

Can anyone comment whether Personal Hotspot shows up in Control Center (for those that have the service/paid for it)?

If you read the known bugs and release notes for this version, it mentions that hotspot functionality is not available in this build.
