In my opinion, doing a fresh install of iOS 6 before one does a fresh install of iOS 7, is rather pointless.

If one does a fresh install of iOS 7, it wipes the phone clean before the install. No need for the extra step. Point is to do a fresh install and not an update.

Always a good idea to do a fresh install.

Yah so far this is doing me justice but more importantly I think it's because I went to ios6 and didn't restore and than went to ios7 clean install last night! Noticing a difference so far!

I didn't bother going back to iOS 6 I just restored from iOS7 to iOS7 and that did it for me, but who knows, maybe the improvements are better again if you go back to iOS6 first.

We'll see!

Yah I heard some reports of people having good battery and than days later not! I'm thinking it's just all inconsistent and no matter what we do it doesn't matter because the beta is unstable! :D

Do a clean install, dont restore from back up! Actually try going back to 6.1.4, clean install, then immediately go to iOS 7 and clean install again!!! And than adjust your settings from there. If you want to take off most battery sucking settings than take off app refresh in background, frequent locations, auto brightness, do not send automatic diagnostic and usage, and disable automatic app updates!!!

Did it but i dont want install everything manual, or i will lose all the app datas

Exactly right but its funny reading the posts......It's like saying do the install with your left hand and you will get better battery life.

Is this good ? iPhone 5

This fixed everything. Thanks so much. If you're wondering if you should do this or not (like I was), just DO IT. I am at 2:10 standby and 1:22 usage. 90% battery left. Before doing the clean install... at that rate I would have been around 40%.

Guy's how exactly does one perform a clean install? Can someone please explain this? I want to make sure I'm doing this correctly as I'm still experiencing severe battery drain. Am I just clicking Restore iPhone in iTunes and then setting up as a new device?

I originally restored iOS 6.1.4 but set it up as a new device and then manually updated to iOS 7. Not sure if this is the problem.

Using restore, and setting up as a new device is the right way to go about it, in my opinion.

As to the last part of your post, there is no need to downgrade, before installing iOS 7 on a new device. Whoever gave the advice to downgrade to 6.14 before upgrading to iOS 7 gave a needless step to the masses. It is a waste of time to do that.

As to battery drain, you can try resetting network settings first. Then turn off Background App refresh, automatic app update, Location Services and LTE (when you aren't out and about).

Those things (along with texting and caling) will drain a battery quickly, especially on a beta. I would also recommend turning on Reduce Motion.

I did a moderate amount of internet surfing today, while using LTE (for a few hours) and having multiple apps running. All of this while using the settings mentioned. They may not work for everyone, for a variety of reasons. I have been getting 7 - 8 hrs of usage since installing iOS 7.

Do you think restoring to iOS 6.1.4 and then upgrading manually to iOS 7 has anything to do with the battery drain? Also, my phone is unusually hot. I think I might try restoring to iOS 7 (not upgrading) and setting up as a new device. I set my phone up as a new device before but this only after restoring from 6.1.4.

Also, others have said that they did not need to turn off any additional settings and still have gotten great battery life. I've turned off the most obvious culprits but am still dealing with a hot and draining mess.

Before installing again, try resetting network settings. Many people have reported that the phone is no longer running hot after taking that step.

As to turning off the various settings, each situation is different. You may turn off what I suggested, and still get bad battery. That is to be expected in beta software.

Installing iOS 7 on a new device has no bearing on downgrading ahead of time to 6.14 fresh install, in my opinion.

Clean install of iOS 7 since day 1 on an iPhone 5... horrible battery issues even when not using the phone. I've turned off all unnecessary autoupdates and notifications and it still drains for some reason. I lost 35% in an hour from fully charged just from listening to music and texting! I used to have to charge just once a day on 6.1.2 jailbroken and even with lots of tweaks it didn't lose this much charge... hmmm

Damn I reset my network settings and reset the phone itself but it's getting very hot and draining fast. I literally just lost 5% of battery life in under 30 mins. I was at 100%, now I'm at 95%.

I'm literally at a loss. Even on iOS 6.1.4 I never got great battery life (maybe 5.5 hours per charge) but this is much worse. The only thing I can think to do is to restore again straight from iOS 7.

Give it another go. Set up as a new phone. Once it is installed, reset the network settings and power off and on again. Then, try the suggestions for what to turn off. Hopefully, you will see a difference.

After I installed iOS 7, it wasn't long before my iPhone 5 started getting hot. did the network reset, made sure I had the right items off that I didn't need on all the time, and phone hasn't been hot again. Good luck with it.

I did a clean update from 6.1.4, and set up as a new phone, but the battery life for me was still sub par, I made maybe about 5 and half to 6 hours before it completely died on me. Right now I'm recharging to full and then turning off location services, background refresh etc and try again. I don't want to turn off parallax though, it looks so cool :D

So here are my thoughts on ios7 along with what I did to save battery life and what I found was draining my battery. Note, I still have Background app refresh enable, LTE on, wifi, etc..Also I restored from my iOS6 backup. I found a minor bug that most didn't notice, read it here: http://bit.ly/10rV3U5 hope it helps those who like to restore from backups.:D

Can anyone confirm if restoring from iOS 7 rather than updating from iOS 7 will work if you do NOT have a developer account?

Updating is your safe bet since your data is already there. Restoring means clean install and not from a backup correct? or restoring a backup after installing from a clean base? if so it will trigger the developer verification screen and lock you out.

Installing every beta and setting up as new is the only way to go when using betas on your primary device in my opinion. I've used 2 iPhones (personal and work) since the first iPhone came out and used every major release (.0) betas since iPhone OS 3.0. I put the betas on my personal device.

Instead of restoring from backup each time there is a new beta I set up as new and add my apps back on manually - but during the beta process I reduce my apps from 110 to around 10 (the ones I truly use/need regularly) so it saves time. It really only takes 30 mins to set up as new - and I have never had any issues with battery or crashing or issues talked about all over this forum. That is, apart from the really bad betas - which did exist - or graphical glitches/apps not opening as they have not been optimised for that software, which is to be expected.
I fresh installed iOS 7 beta 1 and experienced no issues apart from minor graphical glitches and 2 or 3 springboard resprings, and the eBay app not working. Battery life was great, I only turned off auto app updates.

Beta 2 - also installed and set up as new (the same as beta 1) and have had no battery issues, crashing or major problems at all. Messages app has a problem where you cannot get back to your list of messages without closing the app in multitasking (this has happened twice since Tuesday morning) plus eBay is still not working. I would say it is working much smoother than beta 1 and the battery life seems a little better. My iPhone 5 with iOS 7 is currently on 86% from 100% charge at 8.30am (it is now 11.14am) and my iPhone 5 with iOS 6 is on 82%. Both just used for calls and a few messages each plus music on the way to work for 40 mins using the iOS 7 iPhone.
That's just my experience with betas...

Addtion: If your device is not registered you cannot just restore iOS 7 beta as it will lock you out. You need to fresh install iOS 6 and then update it. These two steps are the only way you can set up as new using iOS 7, (erasing the phone and all settings using the phone setting for this also locks you out) so those saying the two step process is unnecessary - this is the only way these people with non registered devices can install the beta fresh (fresh meaning setting up as a new phone).
If your device is registered you can restore/DFU restore the beta (s) as much as your heart desires.

Tell you what helps battery life drastically? In notification settings you have the option now of choosing which updates show on the lock screen, causing the phone to light up whenever something comes through. My battery was good anyway, but disabling twitter to show on lockscreen helped even more. I get loads of twitter updates during the day, so that takes a toll. Barely even scratched my battery now, and seeing as you can have notifications show in the pull down anyway, it makes little difference to ease of access.

Um....maybe

I have to disagree, I did a xcode install and a restore from backup, then did the OTA install and my battery life has drastically improved from beta 1. So, the jury is still out on that notion.....:)

Beta 7 is an absolute disaster on my iPhone. I'm lucky if I get even half a day with it sitting on standby. They have a long way to go # i cannot imagine they're going to be ready even remotely by Sept 10

I went ahead and decided to try the beta products which I haven't done in a very very long time, it was a huge mistake. ios 7 is it an abaokuted disaster

talk about a pig in lipstick

If I do a clean install of the final release of iOS 7, and then restore from iCloud, does that defeat the purpose of doing a clean install? I know a back up on the computer is more "complete" but iCloud just saves settings as much as it can (to keep the back up size down) and then just redownloads your apps.

I really don't want to do a clean install without getting my settings back. But I would like the benefits (if there really are any) of a clean install.

I too would like to know this.

1. How do i do a clean install?
2. If i do a clean install, will my text messages still be there when i backup from icloud?
3. If i backup from i cloud, are my settings back (i don't want this; that may be the cause of battery drain)?
