I really think ios has matured. I believe ios7 and 8 will about refinement.

My realistic wish list:
-Quick access to wifi/BT
-UI refresh (probably not extensive in ios7)
-An AppleTV aware mode where being on a wifi network has the remote app move to an easily accessible spot, or add to #1

I think the previous suggestion of a documents folder was a good one. It's kind of cheesy how hard it is to attach my PDF resume to an email in ios. I'm all for doing away with the file system, but I agree that a central documents folder is much needed.

Also, make iPhoto the default photos app. Seems dumb to have iPhoto and photos app. Both can edit but only 1 can store.

Also, and finally, I'd love apple to do have iCloud sync said documents folder and also photos. Photo stream only works with a Mac at home, my household is all ios.

I like how you say iOS will be about refinements but all those things you want (quick access to settings, UI refresh, documents/file folder) are all things that will probably not happen.

iOS refinement is more like what they did in iOS 6.

Phone app, Photo Stream to Shared Photo Stream, stuff like that.

Actually, I disagree. It seems that there isn't a slew of NEW things they can add, so it seems to me that "tightening" up the OS and streamlining is the next logical step.

Personally I'd like ios to be smarter about things. Things like the remote app when an ATV is present, switching off wifi when not connected for a period of time, things like that.

Also I forgot to mention I liked a previous poster's reply where they mentioned having the notification screen being accessible without unlocking the phone. That's a great idea.

1. Doesn't matter what they call it, this is a basic feature that they should have done a long time back. These shortcuts need to be more accessible.
2. Elaborated view as in show more of the app than just its icon in the multi-tasking tray
3. Reply & Delete would be a great addition, some may not use the reply option without reading the whole mail/text but delete I feel is a necessity.
4. I used infini folders when my phone was jailbroken and absolutely loved it, you anyways cannot see all the icons if your folder is full currently.
5. I am not too bothered if they separate the app from text messages or not but display pic, status updates and proper iMessage groups would be a great addition.
6. Thanks.
7. You're right not everyone need to use them, I prefer Safari at the moment but if Apple allowed users to change their default apps then developers would be more inclined to make better apps for browsing, mail & maps.
8. True but some major upgrades and improvements are required.
9. I can't point at a particular thing that I would want with Siri but I would like for it to be upgraded and improved further with every iOS update.
10. Maybe, but they can do it in an apple way. Create a theme store on iTunes, give developers kits and formats and approve each theme before it hits the stores. They could make good money out of it and still keep everything in check.

1) I agree it doesn't matter what they call it. I meant that referring to it as Mission Control made me think you wanted it the same as it is on a Mac. That'd be pants on the iPhone. Using notification centre for shortcuts would be great though. It's one of two things I had installed when I jailbroke (wifi, 3G, bluetooth, lock etc)
2) Fair enough. I think the cards from PalmOS would be lovely in iOS. Integrate them in an apple way of course, whatever that means :p
3) I'm sure about a delete shortcut. Again though, I just wouldn't use it.
4) My apologies. I meant when you tap the folder and it's open, how would you tell there are more to scroll to? A '...' or a kind of 'half app icon peeking up' would do the trick here methinks. it's a great idea, just needs to be obvious.
5) Being able to make pre-defined groups for iMessages: yes. You can kind do this already but it's long winded (just send a group iMessage out and don't delete it - it's there to use when you want it then). Display pic: Absolutely. The Facebook Home UI had this an it looked great. Status updates? No need. What's the need in seeing if someone is busy etc? If they're busy, they just won't text back. Chill :)
6) No problem :)
7) Agreed. I've heard this asked for lots. If you don't know you can change the apps, you don't need to know how to do it. If you are a power user, it wouldn't take much to integrate it into the OS (he says, having not written a bit of code in his life!)
8 & 9) They can add little commands but the bigger problems with both services is the backend, not the front end.
10) It's just not Apple. I'd literally bet you that the loser had to eat an onion if they did this (and we're not talking dark or light themes with tiny differences like on a Mac, we're talking full on customisation).

11) I think how Facebook implemented messaging in Home looks fantastic. No reason that kind of approach couldn't be used.

based on reports in the last few days, iOS 7 is an extensive re-design.

Number one would be great. Tap one button, boom wifi on, same for the others, it does become tiresome going to settings........etc.

Or instead, make these features so power-efficient and let IOS manage them better so we would be indifferent between having to toggle them on or off. :D

Volume Control
When up or down volume buttons are pressed on the side of the device a volume notificator comes up in the middle of the screen showing the ringer in most cases on the iPhone. If this is tapped it will switch and show the music volume controller instead of the ringer. If tapped again it will control Siri’s volume.

Predictor
Predictor would be a service which takes into account the events and other data that the user has entered into apple apps. It also takes into account where, when, how, and the frequency of which you do things on your phone. This data will then be incorporated into the spotlight screen below the search box and in apps like reminders or calendar.
In spotlight it will show things like the weather at a time that it feels it may be useful to the user or when the weather has been checked in the past. Also if a meeting or event is scheduled on the calendar it will check the traffic and provide directions of the quickest way to get there. In the reminders or calendar apps it will take entries like “Vacation to Florida” or “Remind me to call my brother back” and give the user useful data such as the weather for the first example and a call back number for the second. The possibilities are virtually endless, it could even find keywords or phrases in emails and texts and suggest actions.

List of apps it could be used in:
Spotlight - various suggestions based on patterns & habits
Reminders - calls, texts, emails, reservations, etc.
Calendar - directions, notifying others, reservations
Mail - search for keywords
Messages - search for keywords
Maps - suggest points of interest
Music - improved genius

Custom Notifications
Custom Notifications are basically user set notifications. Created in the notification section in settings, a user can specify what time and the content that the notification displays. It could display anything from the days’ weather to a traffic report for the drive home from work. These notifications can also be triggered by arriving at a certain location and like the predictor the possibilities are nearly endless.

List of apps it could be used in:
Weather - reports before leaving the house
Stocks - end of the day stock report
Maps - traffic report
Game Center - friends scores (if your having a contest)
App Store - app updates available

Location-Based Actions
Many people have been asking for settings to be turned on and off based on there current location. The big problem with this is while battery might be saved by turning off wifi, bluetooth, etc. the GPS must be on to track your location. In most circumstances the GPS uses more battery than wifi and bluetooth therefore defeating the purpose of having it on.
There are several solutions or at least partial solutions that could help solve this problem. The first is using wifi to tell other settings to turn themselves on or off. This will work quite well; when your connected to your home wifi bluetooth, 3g and various other user defined settings can be turned off. When the connection is lost your phone assumes that you are in the car and bluetooth, etc. will be turned on back on until you connect to the wifi at work or wifi elsewhere. Obviously the user can decide which settings they want to be enabled or disable in certain places. The obvious problem with this solution being that wifi has to be kept on at all times for it to function correctly.
A second solution is using cell towers to determined a general location. The user would have to specify which settings they would want enabled and disabled on each tower which they connect to regularly. A profile could also be made for all other towers which the phone owner connects to often. The problem with this solution is in order for the settings to change you must travel out of range of one tower and into another so a home and workplace would have to be a moderate distance away from each other. It is also possible that the phone could use multiple towers to pinpoint a more accurate location but I am not sure if the technology is there yet.
A third solution is using hardware that the current iPhones do not possess: NFC. With this technology the user could just place several special stickers places where they often visit and want their settings to change like at home, in the car, or at work. Each of these stickers will be programmed to adjust the phones settings to whatever the user desires. This would likely be the best solution if the new iPhone gains this technology.

Settings that could be enabled/disabled or adjusted:
Wifi
Bluetooth
Data (2g, 3g, LTE)
Do not disturb
Brightness
Passcode
Airplane Mode
Silent Mode
Notifications

Dynamic Icons
Dynamic icons are exactly as the video below shows. They show a small picture in place of the app icon when the app is either doing something like playing music or is updating you with something like the weather. The would likely release an API so developers could do the same thing with their apps.

Apps that would use this:
Weather - current forecast & temperature
Music - current song artwork
Messages - contact pictures of unread messages
Phone - contact picture of missed call
Stocks - updates of gains or losses
App Store - apps with updates
Maps - next turn direction
Clock - live time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me-lwiY8t-c

An additional feature that could be added to dynamic icons is notifications. When the user swipes an app icon down a list of notifications specific to that app are shown. Play and pause along with settings could be incorporated this way too. While this would be a cool feature I’m not sure if Apple would add this feature into iOS because it really is just an alternative way to do things that does not have a real time advantage over other methods like notification center.

Apps that would use this:
All apps with notifications
Settings - wifi, Bluetooth, etc. toggles
Music - previous, next, pause, play
App Store - apps with updates
Clock - active alarms
Maps - current direction

A further extension of this concept would be “Flipcons” that are shown in the video below. Flipcons would be more a feature to show the latest news, social network posts, or other information not based on notifications. Flipcons are very similar to widgets, showing information to the user without entering an app. Developers would be the main users of this feature as iOS does not have many apps that would take advantages of this feature.

Apps that would use this:
Stocks - latest stock trends
App Store Apps - Social Apps (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram), News Apps (CNN, CBS)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tszqkbDXb-c

Widgets
Widgets are one of the most talked about features that is not yet in iOS. Widgets break many of the rules that Apple has set for itself. They clutter the home screen and if developers started creating them there would be an excessive number, all showing basically the same information. The amount of widgets that can be shown on the screen is also a concern of Apple, they made iOS to show one type of information at a time, hence all the different apps. Finally widgets waste battery and resources; they constantly have to be updated even when the user is not looking at them. Users expect that they will be updated with the latest information when they look at it. All of this updating means the phone is constantly on the internet receiving new information and then using ram and processing power to display it.
If Apple does decide to make home screen widgets they would be sure to limit the number you could have and what each one showed. A layout like the one in the video below would likely be similar to what Apple would create because of clean look and easy to set up. Also it’s unlikely Apple would release an API for developers as it would just make the home screen become cluttered and confusing. The best solution would likely be the dynamic icons listed above as they hide the information until the user wants to see it and also provide quicker access than opening an app.

Apps that would use this:
Weather - current weather
Calendar - upcoming events
Settings - wifi, bluetooth, etc. toggles
Reminders - current reminders & lists
Clock - time & alarms
Stocks - stock updates
Messages - unread messages
Mail - unread mail
Music - current song information & music controls
Game Center - challenges

Siri API
A Siri API like widgets is one of the most ask for features of iOS 7. It is also one of the most complicated features that Apple would have to build. An API is basically a tool that developers use to build their apps. If a developer wanted to integrate Siri functions into their app they would not just be able to build the feature into their app like normal. They have submit data to Apple to be put into the Siri server. In order to get this to work correctly a huge amount of work has to be done to make sure that Siri understands what a question means, the context, and what data to answer it with. Even for just a few commands or questions the amount of work and time that has to put in is enormous. It is defiantly possible that Apple would open this up to developers this year but they would likely restrict the number of developers that could use this feature and force developers to take training courses that instruct them on how to make Siri work.
Another problem with having hundreds of developers working on Siri is which data answers which questions. With so many apps it is likely that some of them will overlap as far as information needed to answer questions. Apple needs find a way to determine which app gives information when others can answer the same question.

Not expecting huge UI changes. Apple will probably modernize a few of its apps, but most UI changes will be in iOS 8. Huges changes to lockscreen, notification center, multitasking, etc. won't happen. It terms of features it'll exceed iOS 6 but won't be the total revamp everyone is expecting. Apple will introduce a new app like Game Center (iOS 4), Newsstand (iOS 5), and Passbook (iOS 6), don't know what it will be though.

Here's all the the finished ones...

Siri
Hotels
Flights
Concerts
Shazam
Nike+
Translation
New languages support

Safari
Smart search field
Top Sites
Full screen portrait (iPhone)
Pull down to refresh page

Notes
Folders
Insert photos and attachments
Fonts, bullets, and lists
Voice Memos integration

Game Center
Redesigned Game Center app
Online/offline friends
Send messages
Inbox for messages, invites, friend requests
Game Store

Other things (still not finished)...

Photos - redesigned app, better organization
Maps - new night mode, transit, many improvements
Mail - insert attachments easily, better search
iTunes/App Store - search bar in header, Wishlist, download status, automatic updates

Also expect some iCloud improvements...

Photo Stream - Video, option to use cellular data
Documents - Google Docs features
iTunes Match - iRadio

Trying to be as realistic as possible.

Not expecting huge UI changes. Apple will probably modernize a few of its apps, but most UI changes will be in iOS 8.

From John Gruber:

http://branch.com/b/apple-to-begin-iphone-production-this-quarter

Smart thread on Branch. Two nuggets from yours truly:

What I’ve heard: iOS 7 is running behind, and engineers have been pulled from OS X 10.9 to work on it. (Let me know if you’ve heard this song before.)

Regarding Jony Ive and iOS: Word on the street is that iOS engineers with carry privileges all have some sort of polarizing filter on their iPhone displays, such that it greatly decreases viewing angles, thus making it difficult for observers to see the apparently rather significant system-wide UI overhaul.

And regarding that system-wide UI overhaul, I hear the same thing as Rene Ritchie: “Ive’s work is apparently making many people really happy, but will also apparently make rich-texture-loving designers sad.”

I already saw it.

Remember these were the same people who said iOS wouldn't be getting a huge UI change. I listen to all their podcasts and previous reports/rumors.

WSJ reported a more flat design with no drastic changes (example: new Podcast app UI) and those were the same people that also went with that report. Now they seem to be saying the complete opposite.

Notice how they all use words like "rather", "apparently", etc. None of them are absolutely sure.

"iOS is a continuum, not a set of static things. There's a roadmap. What didn't make it into iOS 6 goes into 7, what doesn't make it into 7 goes into 8. If iPhone 5S is summer instead of fall, that'll tighten the schedule a lot. They usually get 12 months for iOS (16 for iOS 5)." - Rene Ritchie

Apple is behind schedule. That would mean Apple will hold off iOS 7 features and introduce them in iOS 8 for the sake of some random UI overhaul.

"But the next iPhone NOT launching in conjunction with an iOS release is an incredibly minute possibility. That means that a July launch would either give developers a 30-day window to include new functions of iOS 7...OR...it would mean that iOS 7 has almost no new functionality." - Matthew Panzarino

A total UI change wouldn't be great for developers if they only get 30 days to implement new things.

Most likely iOS 7 will have some new UI changes but its going to be what the WSJ and other Apple/tech sites reported "a flatter design".

If iPhone 6 has a bigger display then Apple would save the UI overhaul for that. It would give Apple at least 2 years to implement a drastic UI change instead of rushing to try to implement some random UI change for the iPhone 5S.

Apple is smart. They wouldn't drastically revamp the UI in less than 1 year for the iPhone 5S with a 4'' display. They're going to take they're time as Rene said if they can't get the UI revamp in time, it won't be in iOS 7.

The amount of expectation coverage iOS7 is getting if Apple don't do something radical I fear many geeks are going to lose their mind.

The only reason i am going to hold off and note got the HTC one, Galaxy S4 is because I want to see what the beta iOS 7 brings in June when announced. We will know then no doubt whether a UI change is happening. If not then i am bouncing

Ability to run two apps at once on the iPad. Would be very helpful to watch lectures and type some notes on one device.

I kind of agree with everything you posted except for iMessage groups. Which is just really poorly done at the moment. For example once you make a group you cannot add or remove any member from it, you don't have access to old images and videos shared except for scrolling through the whole chat. Plus iMessage doesn't have an option of emailing or sharing chats in any format. iMessage needs a complete over haul including the other above mentioned feature updates and soon. Most of my friends who are on iOS still rely on 3rd Party apps like What'sApp for messaging.
