Use Cellular Data definitely needs to be more granular. I'd like to have it ON for iTunes Radio, but OFF for automatic downloads. (Meaning automatic downloads would be on, but only for WiFi)

What I'm finding weird is some third party apps that are a mix of iOS 6 and iOS 7. Are those apps that haven't been redesigned and certain things default to iOS 7 UI?

I think so. I was using an app that wasn't updated, and it had the new-style confirmation box pop up. Actually kind of jarring, as now that I'm getting used to the iOS7 interface, a lot of these un-updated apps feel "heavy" in their UI.

Looks like a lot of people have their cheese moved. When I put iOS 7 on my iPhone I was a bit taken aback by the colors but I quickly got used to it. I think setting the correct screen brightness goes a long way, too, in making the interface look right. In all, I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. Haven't really seen anything truly demonstrating cognitive dissonance.

Looks and acts like Android 2 years ago. Step in up :apple:

Yawn. Someone always says this. Yet whenever I visit Android it's just a mishmash that's not very nice to use.

iOS7 does introduce features that could and should have been there a long time ago but I think it's a great update.

Go to:

Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Speak Selection -> Voices -> English -> Turn on the 'Enhanced Quality' Switch.

It should then start the download (about 200mb)

I cant get any of it working. Even with exagerated the movement there's barely any reaction on the wallpaper.

You sure that works with Siri?

Thanks! That looks much better. Pity I can't change it on the app.

Is anyone having trouble accessing spotlight search? I try swiping down and all i get is the notification screen.

Or does it have to be enabled?

Try swiping from part way down the home screen rather than the top

I don't understand the logic behind getting rid of posting to Facebook from iOS but being able to post to Facebook with Siri? WTF?

So one of the coolest new aesthetic features to was these new motion backgrounds.

I have an iPhone 4S and a 3rd Gen iPad and I don't get them on either. If you really aggressively shake the device you notice a tiny amount of motion but nothing like they made it out to be in the videos.

Am I missing something or is this feature only for the latest models.

I don't see this working either...???

Thats all fine and dandy but you seem to be thinking that would save you tons of data usage... I am willing to bet you will use more data on iRadio than you would on app updates...

so, nobody knows how the commute thing works? Neither in calendar or Today? In that case, it seems a very counterintuitive feature.

I know it's a minor point but for the sake of accuracy: a few people have been misremembering the number of icons one can get in folders in iOS 6. It's actually 16, not 12. That's a good, useful number, for me anyway. :)

:) Either way it's a HUGE functionality and productivity hit. And for no good reason too.

Video Won't Import - So PISSED!

I shot 2 hours of video yesterday and like a dummy I didn't import it into iPhoto before upgrading and ha, ha... It won't import! It will let me import using iMovie, but so sick of Apple trying to tell me how to work - I want my photos and videos in one location like I've been doing for the last 4 years. I was never the biggest Jobs fan, but under Tim Cook everything they've released in the last year or two has had major issues - that they don't acknowledge until they fix it a few months later. I'm hoping it'll work with Premiere.

What, no mention of the phantom email "feature"?
jlwy.jpg

It baffles me that something like this can get left in the live release.

Yes of course I've downloaded it, why else would I be making jokes about how white everything is?

I'm actually with this guy. I'm loving all the new features of iOS 7, I just wish they had a night time version where they inverted the colors. Looking at my phone after 10pm is harsh on the eyes.

Also, I realized the photo filters don't work with my iphone4 :,(

I would also like if they would turn up the transparency on the dock at the bottom. There's no reason for it to be as harsh as it is.

Awsome software.... except they are making me wait on buying iphone 6 since their 5S doesnt have much oomp compared to 5.

Ppl think the new h/w features are awesome - like fp sensor, 64-bit but you will not see the results until another year which is when they will bring in iphone 6. And besides the battery in 5s is almost same as 5 and you cannot expect more or equal battery performance when you have such new battery eating features (double flash, 64-bit, double performing processor). The S series has always been a trap for ppl.

So thanks but no thanks. I will wait for iphone 6. I am going to upgrade my existing iphone with iOS7 and pretend that I have a new phone :)

iTunes Radio: iTunes Radio can be accessed from within the Music app. It is currently only available for users located in the United States, though it works for users outside of the U.S. as long as they have a U.S. iTunes account.

Two things: iTunes radio works with a U.S. iTunes account, even if you are outside the U.S. And you missed ...

Thanks, I'll add in the mail tip!

Article is still confusing. Should simply say "It is currently only available for users with a U.S. iTunes account."

Bad user experience

I've always loved the iPhone for its intuitive and easy to read user interface.

Now they've sacrificed all that for some "thin", "modern" , gimmick user interface that is very hard to read, even after trying to improve it using various accessibility settings.

Just look at the keyboard for text input, so hard to read, a disgrace. Apple, why are you giving us bad user experience?

I wish the automatic changing day/night mode from the maps app was integrated through the entire iO7 with all the other menus.. this white background is pretty intense at night time.

Some of my discoveries

My iMessages were showing up to people as one of my email addresses and not my phone number. I had to go into the Messages setting and sign out of iCloud. It then reverted back to sending iMessages from my cell #.

Flick down from the middle of your home screen for "spotlight search". No need to do it from the top of the screen because that will pull down notifications.

I, too, was missing weather data from the notifications screen. I went into location services, and while location WAS turned on for weather, I turned all the location settings off, then turned them all back on and restarted the phone, and weather was miraculously back in notifications. If you click on the temperature, it will bring up the weather app with your full forecast.

Still finding the "classic" tri-tone message tone annoying. They've added a "ding" to it and it all mail and app notifications that aren't customizable like MLB alerts, etc all sound like I'm getting text messages. Which I could fix that somehow.

Safari OS7 is ....... complicated / confusing.

Don't want to render final judgment yet. But the word that springs to mind is:
"Uninviting"

ALSO
A lot of the "Black On White" stuff makes one forget what App is showing.

I never thought I'd miss the yellow paper of "Notes"..Hahahahaha...But I do. I knew right away that I was in "Notes" before.

I'll give it a week ;-)

best,
SvK

Nope, we remember just fine. You got 16 on the 4" screen of the iPhone 5. On the 3.5" screens of the 4S and earlier it was only 12 (one row less) :)

Ah right. My mistake. My iPhone 5 is my first iPhone. It seems I was the one misremembering the time I only had an iPod Touch with a 3.5" screen.

I'll get me coat...
