amazing that a company that has had such huge fiascos with maps, this health app, ios updates, etc can still command a premium price. but won't stop them until the customer base finally votes with their wallet. keep that in mind.

Well, the sad reality is that even though this is far from ideal, if other consumers are like me, their experiences with other companies have been worse.

That's where the real rub of it is. For all the errors and mistakes, Apple is still miles (in my opinion, for anyone about to jump in and argue with me, you can have your own opinion but this is mine!) better than the competition.

Would you by any chance have 8.0.1? If done in iTunes there are no issues.

DO NOT UPDATE TO 8.0.1. Apple has pulled that version, I will not host it even if I had it. The files won't be verified by apple servers anyway so it wont update it.

What a **** company, They don't know what they are doing.
crap device with a crap update,

Oh yeah thats right. I will just go back to 8.0.

Thank you so much! File is almost done downloading.

Apple... Just release an update... Call it 8.0.2, and link it to the 8.0 installation file. Problem fixed! No?

So disappointed Apple.... :(

Yeah, no doubt.

Bend-gate
Camera-gate
8.0.1.

The maps thing was completely forgivable from my perspective. First release, the issues were mainly data related (which was sourced from an external vendor anyway) and was fixable over time. Yet for the maps fiasco, they fired Scott Forstall.

Bend-gate is hardly fixable via an OS update. And I am not sure about camera-gate but that might not be a software/firmware issue either.

Extremely bad showing for a company that had many moons of time to design (and many examples to learn from) a proper phablet.

With all due respect, try buying a Microsoft computer. Not a Dell or HP running Windows, but a Microsoft PC running Windows (e.g. the surface). Microsoft's support is arguably better than Apple's, although they have fewer retail stores, and they released 8.1.1 for my phone today, which didn't brick my phone.

The problem is that OTA updates are always deltas. This is why people who applied the 8.0.1 ipsw seem to have fixed their devices without reverting.

If the iPhone 6 deltas were bad, they'd still risk pushing more bad deltas with "8.0.2".

With the rate Apple software releases are declining, 8.1 will cause the iPhones and iPads to catch fire and burn whole cities to the ground.

I don't understand this rationale. Everybody else sucks so therefore Apple's laying a giant egg with iPhone 6+/iOS 8.0.1 is completely forgivable?

I do agree that, in many people's minds, Apple is miles beyond others. Opinions are fine. But when you look at the facts, I really don't know if there is evidence to support that opinion.

And no, I am not generally an Apple-hater. My household has 4 macs, 3 ipads and 3iphones currently. I was all set to upgrade to iPhone 6 but between the camera issues, the bending issues and so on, I am wondering if Apple standards for quality have just completely gone down the toilet.

I've written this up for iPhone users to restore back to 8.0, feel free to share it.

Apple has pulled iOS 8.0.1 from the Developer Center and it is also no longer available via an over-the-air download. Got iOS 8.0.1 and have had the Touch ID and Cellular NO SERVICE issues? Here is how to fix that for the iPhone by reverting back to iOS 8.0.

CoasterGhost, I followed your instructions and they were perfect. I got all they way through the restore and started syncing my phone but then it timed out.

It's right in the middle of restoring all my apps, music, etc but is just spinning and says the phone timed out.

What should I do now?? Will it restart syncing if I just leave it hooked up. Never had one time out before..

Thanks for your help!!

I read the carriers pushed the wrong IPSW for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices over the air. Those who updated via iTunes did not experience these bugs.

Could this be true???
No, the carrier is nothing more than a dumb pipe. iOS software updates originate from Apple, not the carrier.

Restart the phone, let it download, there will be a button under settings once the update is verified that says install now, don't hit it :)

Yup. Now both my iPad mini and iPhone 6 are in that state. Thx.

Just FYI, you don't have to put your phone in Airplane mode... just shut off WiFi. OTA iOS updates won't/can't happen over a cellular signal.

Yeah. I did that later. First reaction was turn off all radios.

If the iPhone 6 deltas were bad, they'd still risk pushing more bad deltas with "8.0.2".

Once they identified the problem, they will make the delta claim "these files are 100% different" nothing is going to screw up.

Odd, hmm I would say to unplug via USB and then replug it in. It should continue, but I am not sure. Anyone else can confirm my idea?

How the hell is sitting on your phone causing it to bend an Apple problem? Are you folks serious?

My iPhone downloaded the update but it won't install (I think they blocked it). How to delete it from the "Software Update"?? Ugh

Go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage from there click the update and you can delete it in the window that pops up.

Secret footage from Apples war room right now!
