Tim Cook being sneaky. What better way to divert attention away from bentgate, by sending out a bad iOS update!

I was so annoyed by the many minor and major iOS 8 bugs that I updated in the very moment I saw the update notification (about two hours ago). Hoped it would solve at least some of the OS problems and thought it couldn't get worse. Yes, stupid me.

Now I’m sitting here with a shiny 5.5" iPod Touch fka iPhone 6 Plus. No network connection (in Germany, Deutsche Telekom), no TouchID.

The painfully slow download of the 8.0 restore firmware will take another 45 Minutes (isn’t even half complete). Since I have some time to kill I’m thinking of funny names for this newest Apple f###up. How about "upgate"? Nah? Whatever.

BTW, for those who are worried about "bad press":
This is not about bad press.
This is about bad performance.

market opportunity

does anyone want to partner with me to start selling "Bend prevention" iphone 6 cases? we can weld a piece of steel into a metal case and make millions. ;)

And to think that people waited in lines for days before the launch for this...

I hope issues are resolved quickly for all uses. This is too much of a hassle. People have been very patient about it.

I'd be standing in front of that same store to get my money back. Unfortunately that about the only thing a company understands.

It took me about 2 and a half hours to download the iOS 8.0 IPSW. Their servers must be getting killed right now. I would imagine that a lot of app updates that were planned for release today won't make it out until tomorrow.

At least it's working for me now. And since I didn't restore but instead "updated" to 8.0.0 all my data was preserved. It took about 45 minutes for me to download.

Kind of odd to see this much disorganization from Apple. Whats going on up there in Cupertino these days?

What's going on is Apple has become too politically minded and has completely forgotten why it is the billion dollar company that Steve Jobs rebuilt. Apple has forgotten that designing things from the ground up taking every aspect of the use of the device/s and creating a seamless experience is what made it the company it was under Steve Jobs. People can say he was a pain etc and horrible, but perhaps he was the one who reigned in erratic minds into some order to deliver exceptionally conceived idea's?

Complacency has set in. Apple wants to be more right on than they want to be right on the button of hardware conception. They are too busy looking over the fence than to see the talent that is amongst them to achieve great things. They give themselves a pat on the back for mediocre performance.

Tim Cook needs to get a grip and if he can't do that in the next seven days and stop this decline, then he should be fired.

Talk about blowing things out of all proportion. It's a small glitch. It unfortunately happens sometimes with software updates. It didn't brick any iPhones. Apple has a acted incredibly quickly in pulling the update to protect their customers. It's not the end of the world.

I don't blame Apple. I blame anyone who rushed out to install an update the second it's released. You have learnt a valid lesson today. If this was a major PITA for you, don't rush out to install updates in the future. Let others take that risk. Learn from your mistake.

You don't blame Apple for pushing out a defective update? You blame the customer? Wow just wow.

It has bricked a few phones and losing the ability to make phone calls on a phone is kind of a big issue. Yes Apple acted quickly to protect it's customers from Apple lol.

This happened 4 hours ago now. They should have easily been able to find the root cause by now. So where's the damn fix?

My guess is that they're being extra cautious and doing some extra tests before releasing anything. They'll weigh that against the number of people who already have vs have not upgraded on how much extra time they'll devote to it. Can't release a fix, and then have to pull it a second time.

1. All users should refrain from updating until other users do and find the bugs.

2. Who would find the bugs if no one updated?

Good plan.

Bad

And so Apples quality assurance diminishes. Apple needs to slow down and be more careful. I feel like they are now just rushing crap out for the sake of having something new. Jobs did not let things like this happen. He kept control on every aspect so everything felt polished and stable. Why all the fixes in iOS so soon, why not postpone iOS 8 until the fixes in 8.0.1 were included in the initial release? Little things like this add up to a lot, and lately Apple has been letting the little things pile up.

I read the carriers pushed the wrong IPSW for iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices over the air. Those who updated via iTunes did not experience these bugs.

Could this be true??? Seems odd.

This is not the way to win over a previous Note 3 and Note 2 user with 9 more days left within the return policy. Now I understand why Verizon verifies Android software before release.

And if someone did an update to 8.0.1 not near their computer, and gets into an emergency situation where they need to make a call, or to receive a call from their child's school or the like, in that case will you accept that this might be a real serious situation?

I already think it's a serious issue. But because it could cause a "serious situation" doesn't mean mistakes still can't happen. Do I think Apple should've caught something like this before it was released, ABSOLUTELY! But somehow, someway it slipped through. But it just goes to show that BUG, stupid mistakes can happen. And i'm sure some heads are gonna roll in Cupertino.

It's bad, and it's Apple's fault at least somewhere in there, even if something else was involved.
