iOS 8.0.1 Causing No Service, Touch ID Issues on iPhone 6/6 Plus, Apple Support Recommends iTunes Restore

Tim Cook is probably looking for a new job right about now, it's a good thing they didn't release the iPhones and updates etc to China, they'd think it was some kind of secret plot.

Apple totally missed this in QA! This is why I always wait a bit before jumping on the next update! :)

You are really out there! Phones are not designed to be SAT ON! Not one phone is designed for that. Placed in pocket yes, SAT ON...NO!

Look, I know that Apple guys check this website on occasion. If you are one of the Apple guys, instead of wasting time making excuses for your company's poor choice of materials and thickness, why don't you go back and learn something from this experience and just do better the next time?

Seriously, I am an Apple customer many times over. And I personally pay way too much money for this stuff to be sold phones that don't hold up to being in my pants pocket - something I have been doing with phones for 13 years.

I've put my 6+ in my pocket since Friday. It is not bent yet.

I don't understand this rationale. Everybody else sucks so therefore Apple's laying a giant egg with iPhone 6+/iOS 8.0.1 is completely forgivable?

I do agree that, in many people's minds, Apple is miles beyond others. Opinions are fine. But when you look at the facts, I really don't know if there is evidence to support that opinion.

And no, I am not generally an Apple-hater. My household has 4 macs, 3 ipads and 3iphones currently. I was all set to upgrade to iPhone 6 but between the camera issues, the bending issues and so on, I am wondering if Apple standards for quality have just completely gone down the toilet.

The other person said that people should 'vote with their wallets' or something along those lines. My point is that I'm not going to 'vote with my wallet' if I'll get crappier service.

I have to say my unwavering faith in Apple has been sorely tested over recent days......

No company deserves unwavering faith. In fact, if you want to encourage Apple to prioritize the things that earned them that unwavering faith, you should be vocal in criticizing their missteps. And on when necessary, show them your displeasure but not giving them your money.

No one wants crappy service. But you know, bad camera, bending phone, an OS update that is DOA. I mean, what does Apple have to do for you to stop giving them money?

Here are the facts ....

FACT: Steve pretty much near had people executed for Mobile.Me
What do you think he'd do after
MAPS/iCloud leaks/the iWatch event stream/the U2 album/HealhKit/iApple Store app down on launch day/OS 8.0.1?!?

FACT: God help anyone who updated then needed thier phone in a life or death situation.

FACT: If geeks consider the fix jumping through hoops, the average user will be completly lost.

FACT: Steve never knew about the iWatch, widely considered an iffy product.

FACT: Today's not the day to be a Genius Bartender.

Again, WE'RE ALL APPLE FANS HERE. That's "fan", not apologists.
If someone hasn't seen the precipitous dropoff in the non-tarnishing of Apple's name, you're a bloody fool.

Tim Cook is a bean counter, NOT A VISIONARY. A visionary is what Apple must have.
When Walt Disney passed away, do you think the accountant took over? NO.
Somethinh is seriously amiss in the Little Kingdom and it better get fixed fast.
Stock price notwithstanding.

For those who need to get the ispw file, I am hosting all the iPhone models for iOS 8 at https://copy.com/1GOtP6Vz0DRL

For those who need to delete the update from your device: Go to Settings -> General -> Usage -> Manage Storage from there click the update and you can delete it in the window that pops up.

For Restore:
Press in iTunes (Mac: Option/Alt) (Windows: Shift) when pressing restore and locate where you saved the IPSW file and select that for the update. Model list for the iPhones are below with my hosting link (copy.com) and Apple's official servers to know which one you need.

For DFU and restore (Total wipe):

1. Based on the model number of your iPhone, you will be able to identify which iOS firmware file you need to download. You can find model number on the iPhone’s back cover.

iPhone 4s Model Number(s): A1387 ; A1431
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone4,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5 Model Number: A1428
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5 Model Number(s): A1429 ; A1442
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,2_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5c Model Number(s): A1456 ; A1532
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,3_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5c Model Number(s): A1507 ; A1516 ; A1526 ; A1529
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone5,4_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5s Model Number(s): A1433 ; A1533
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone6,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5s Model Number(s): A1457 ; A1518 ; A1528 ; A1530
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone6,2_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 6 Plus Model Number(s): A1522 ; A1524
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone7,1_8.0_12A366_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 6 Model Number(s): A1549 ; A1586
iOS firmware file needed: iPhone7,2_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

ALTERNATE LINK: https://copy.com/1GOtP6Vz0DRL (I'm hosting the above listed files as it appears apple servers are slow.)

2. Plug your device into your computer

3. Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off

4. Hold the power button for 3 seconds

5. Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds

6. Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.

7. Now hold down the (Mac Option/Alt) (Windows: Shift) Key and click on the Restore button. In the navigation sheet that appears locate the ipsw file you just downloaded and click Choose. Again, this will wipe out all the data on it so be sure to have a backup.

8. Be patient and wait for the installation process to be completed by iTunes

9. Once the restore is completed you can select your backup or treat the device as a new device.

Here’s another important note (which Windows users should pay particular attention to; also, this is something that only applies if the user chooses to look for the desired IPSW file on the Internet). Your browser may change the IPSW file into a .zip file. For example, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer does this, if used to download the firmware bundle. This doesn’t mean it’s unusable. Instead of wasting time switching web browsers, just rename the file to end in “.ipsw” and iTunes will accept it.

For Restore and if the Device times out:
If your device times out during the restore sync after the software is reloaded back on, uplug the device via USB and replug it back in. It should then continue to sync again.

It hasn't rained in my neighborhood for 6 months. It must mean that it doesn't rain anywhere else.

Solution: Get another phone that you can put in your pocket and live happily ever after.

I don't know why people love to complain and complicate their lives. That is so unhealthy.

Finally back on ios8. Sorry Apple but this is just not acceptable. A company which goes on about being the best, well yeah, this was your best screw-up yet. Mistakes shouldn't be made like this at your level.

With all due respect, try buying a Microsoft computer. Not a Dell or HP running Windows, but a Microsoft PC running Windows (e.g. the surface). Microsoft's support is arguably better than Apple's, although they have fewer retail stores, and they released 8.1.1 for my phone today, which didn't brick my phone.

Like I said in my other post, this is my opinion. Telling me how great your experience has been is not going to change *my* experiences or *my* opinions.

No one wants crappy service. But you know, bad camera, bending phone, an OS update that is DOA. I mean, what does Apple have to do for you to stop giving them money?

I think you're missing my point, which is that even if Company A screws up, I am not going to switch to Company B unless Company B is better or equal to Company A.

Wow, I am now being accused of working for Apple. That's rich! :roll eyes:

All I'm trying to say is that if you do stupid stuff with your phone, bad thing will happen. Apparently, this new generation of folks aren't about correcting themselves and owning problems, they are more into blaming others for their stupidity. Apple is now expected to design for your stupidity and make everything dummy proof. What the hell is wrong with us? I mean seriously, there are so many options that you can do to protect your phone like buy great cases but we all resort to blaming others for our stupidity.

I don't know if I want to laugh or cry at this point. STR8 UP REDIC!

I totally don't have access to a computer now, won't do until later today, and I use my phone for business purposes... now what?
Then why the F were you doing an OS update in the middle of a workday?!?

Yes, Apple screwed the pooch big time, I can't imagine how defective Q/A must have been to miss something that has bitten this many people. They need to fix it. Hire me!

But come on: anyone who jumps on a new OS update within minutes of it being released and then complains they can't do their work - no sympathy from me.

My iPhone 5S has downloaded the 8.0.1 but I haven't applied it yet - it shows Install now. What can I do to get rid of it or will the updated update replace/supersede it?

Thanks

You should be able to delete it in the usage section of settings. That said, the issue mainly applied to iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, so with a 5S you are more likely going to be fine (although there's never really a guarantee with anything).

Dumb question but what happened to the update?

Just checked my 5s and iPad Mini both can't find 8.0.1 and says 8.0 is the latest, I've tried wirelessly and via iTunes.

No I have NOT read all of the previous 35 pages in this thread!
