Dumb question but what happened to the update?

Just checked my 5s and iPad Mini both can't find 8.0.1 and says 8.0 is the latest, I've tried wirelessly and via iTunes.

No I have NOT read all of the previous 35 pages in this thread!

Apple removed it. Buggy.

Wow, I am now being accused of working for Apple. That's rich! :roll eyes:

All I'm trying to say is that if you do stupid stuff with your phone, bad thing will happen. Apparently, this new generation of folks aren't about correcting themselves and owning problems, they are more into blaming others for their stupidity. Apple is now expected to design for your stupidity and make everything dummy proof. What the hell is wrong with us? I mean seriously, there are so many options that you can do to protect your phone like buy great cases but we all resort to blaming others for our stupidity.

I don't know if I want to laugh or cry at this point. STR8 UP REDIC!

Except your premise is in of itself stupid. People put phones in their pockets. Phones, particularly the size of phablets will be put under stress when the owner sits down. Even if the phone is in the front pocket. No one but you is talking about sitting on the phone.

People have been keeping cell phones in pockets for 20 years. But hey, keep on making up excuses for Apple. I am sure they appreciate it.

Do you really feel like consumers clicking on "update" is something stupid? Personally, I think there is an expectation that the core functionality of the device will still work after an update as long as it's not beta and there are no modifications I did that caused the update to fail. As a consumer, I think that's fair isn't it?

Then why the F were you doing an OS update in the middle of a workday?!?

Yes, Apple screwed the pooch big time, I can't imagine how defective Q/A must have been to miss something that has bitten this many people. They need to fix it. Hire me!

But come on: anyone who jumps on a new OS update within minutes of it being released and then complains they can't do their work - no sympathy from me.

What about things like the heartbleed vulnerability where if you didn't update there was a very real possibility that someone could harvest your data in public places? With the recent attacks at Target, Home Depot and iCloud, most consumers aren't familiar with everything that's going on in technology. Don't you think at least a few of them thought "hey, I need to update to keep my stuff as safe as possible these days"?

I think that this is a very reasonable expectation, especially since Apple was the company who stressed "It Just Works" to us for so many years.

Another great point. I feel that these should be fully tested for compliance before being unleashed on everyone.

Apple is now only the shadow of what it was.

Rather than investing massively in Developers to get robust OS8.1 & Yosemite, they do nothing with their cash.

It is the same with yosemite. With our I7 Macbook, it is slow and we often see the spinning rainbow umbrella & the program bounce all the time. It is UNACCEPTABLE have a downtime when my macbook Intel I7 launches Textedit.

Yosemite is slower to start than Mavericks. It is also slower to quit.

2 years ago, i would have never considered it but now i am enough about those Apple OS, its cloud and their problems too.

I see the day when i will switch to a Windows phone & a Windows 9 PC.

There was a time when their install base in iPhone was 2 million global.

Now they sell 10m in a weekend and have 250m phones world wide.

iOS 1 was locked down with a feature set of 20 items.

Now they have to cater for a feature set of 200+, along with catering to 1million apps and developers along with versioning.

A lot has changed since 2007.

I don't see any update on my iPhone been checking all day but say 8.0 is the current software. What happen?

Isn't there another thread, and in fact multiple threads that already talk about the whole bending issue. Why does that need to be discussed everywhere including in places where it's completely irrelevant, like this thread which is about iOS and has nothing to do with bending at all.

What do you care?

no need to get all bent outta shape man. ;)

What do you care?
Because I'm interested in reading about the iOS update but don't really care about bending of iPhones and don't care reading about that when I see that this thread has updates only to find out they are about nothing related to the actual topic of the thread. If I cared about bending issues I could easily follow and participate in many of the other threads that actual deal with that particular topic. Fairly basic stuff.

Holy over-reaction, Batman.

How many people out of the TEN MILLION that bought a phone this weekend have a bending problem?

This is not news people. It's a molehill.

What a sad day. The worst Apple news since years. :( It's the first time that an iOS update gets pulled by the manufacturer.

From now on you can't recommend any more in the future: "You can install iOS and OS X upgrades and updates without any hesitation. It's a no-brainer." Now: "Better wait some days for field reports."

My confidence in Apple's legendary quality is broken.

Doh!!!

You are absolutely right. This thread is about iOS 8.0.1. My bad.

You didn't read my post and took it out of context. I was addressing "bending" not the update.

And it's not even what this article/thread is about. ;)

Once in eight years and now the sky is falling.

There's a couple of things feeding into it - the keynote, the issues with bending, the bugginess in general with iOS 8, all happening in a short timeframe. On top of that there's the simple truth that a company can do very well with a customer for years, screw up once, and have to work for years again to build that trust up again. It's just how it works and why companies try to avoid screwing up in the first place.

For me personally I'm not going to disown Apple and shun their products but for some people their faith has been bruised and they're going to be vocal about it.

I'm not saying this weeks mess wouldn't happen under steve but definitely more heads would roll. Tim's a nice guy and as much as some hated steve, it works cause people were scared ******** of him.
