iTunes still offers 8.0.1, check for updates shows no updates, trying to restore returns "This iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build."

On the phone with Apple Support, they don't know anything about it, still checking, sent them on this topic and on apple discussion boards to check

meanwhile you might want to try this:

1. Go to Settings > Carrier > Automatic.
If the phone registers any carrier network, Settings > Carrier will be present.
2. If the Carrier option is missing in Settings and you're outside of the Unites States, please contact Apple(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window)(Opens in new window) for support and service options.
3. Set the option for Automatic to off.
A list of potentially available carriers appears after about two minutes. If the device is locked to a carrier, it may connect only to the carrier network to which it is locked. If the device displays carrier networks, then the device is working as expected.
4. Set Settings > Carrier > Automatic back to on.

5s here, no problems, so looks like it's only 6 and 6+ that are affected, on a positive note, wifi issues seem to be fixed.

Adam.

5S on 8.0 here. I haven't done the update but about 10 minutes ago I did a check for Software Update and it showed 8.0.1. Now when I check for update I get this message- "Unable to Check for Update- An error occurred while checking for a software update."

They're on it, apparently. Embarrassing, though.

Download the IPSW 8.0 and do a Option + Update instead of restoring from backup. It works.

I have signal and everything working, plus I did not lose any of my data

Settings>Carrier? I don't have that option. Sprint here.

Wait, is this a beta or public? If it was public they must have pulled it. Nevermind, I should have googled that first. lol. Glad I didn't update.

Apple really really really screwed up. Its no exaggeration that problem like this, could put an end to a company like apple, when the mobile war is so intense.

APPLE: "We are actively investigating these reports ... In the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1 update.”

THIS^^^ Thanks buddy worked a treat ;)

If I do this, can I restore a iTunes backup of all my apps/stuff? If not I'll probably just enjoy an afternoon of no phone service until the official update comes out.

Apple advised full restore to iOS 8.0, 8.0.1 has been pulled off at the moment while they're investigating.

Meanwhile, enjoying my 4.7" iPod Touch...

I can confirm that this works:

IF YOU UPGRADED TO 8.0.1 AND CELL SERVICE IS BROKEN:

Go to ipswdownloader.com and download the iOS IPSW for 8.0 for your respective model.

Go to iTunes and Option-Click "Check for Update" – Select the downloaded 8.0 IPSW and update the phone. It will revert back to 8.0 and cell + touchID will work. You will not need to backup & redownload all your stuff - it works like a normal upgrade.
