Does 8.1 fix the issue where the video "scrubber" bar is solid black, making it impossible to tell how much of a video has buffered?

Can someone on the beta upload a screenshot of music playing on the lock screen? Preferably with a dark wallpaper. :)

Can anyone running the 8.1 beta check to see if Airplay is working correctly? When I try to send audio to my Airplay speaker using 8.0.2 (and it was like this with 8.0) on my iPhone 5s I will have a song playing on my iPhone through the iPhone speaker, then I will select Airplay and then the speaker I am going to send it to, then after about 5 or 6 seconds it will reset and select iPhone and unselect the song. If I then select the speaker again and then select the song it will play. This happens every time. Also when using Airplay with my Apple TV it is a little flakey as well.

UPDATE: Never mind. I decided to install 8.1b1 and try it myself and Airplay still isn't working correctly (same behavior as described above. :-(

Worked on both Music.app and MLB.app for me.

Apparently Apple isn't checking for UDID's for this beta. I am not a developer and my iPhones UDID isn't registered and I downloaded the .IPSW file for my iPhone 5s and used iTunes 11.4.0.18 (Windows) and did an Update (held down the SHIFT key and selected "Check for Updates" and selected the .IPSW file and it did the upgrade as it did for the 8.0 GM I had also installed.

Thank you. :)

Ugh, the time and artist/album are still hard to see. Wish they would revert it back to how it was in iOS7.

They need to move the controls to the bottom for the 6+

It works if you select update but a restore doesn't. Restore and registering is the safe way to do it.

Yeah. Once u do a restore, your device's UDID has to be verified with Apple's servers. If not the phone is as good as bricked dead without signal

To all those who installed without your phone being registered:

Careful before doing an OTA update to 8.1 beta 2 when it comes out! Last year 7.1b1 also did not require signing, but 7.1b2 did, which resulted in a lot of temporarily bricked phones, including mine (which wasn't a big deal because I had simply forgotten to register it on our dev account, but it is a big deal if you can't!)

Pretty much this. Apple may not check for installation on the first beta for installation, but you can bet that they will when they push out OTA updates.

I don't have that issue on my iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.

I have Yosemite GM on my MacBook (late 2008 aluminum) and 8.1 on my 4s and I can't pair them with Bluetooth.. Anyone knows why?
Even my iPAd is not pairing..

iOS 8.1 beta 1 is out now.

Build number: 12B401

This thread is a wiki so anyone can edit this post in add in anything new and/or fixed in this beta.

New features/Changes/Improvements:
  • Larger app icons in widget edit mode
  • New iBooks icon
  • New ‘Enable Dictation toggle’ in Settings > General > Keyboards
  • "Recently Added" in Photos.app replaced with iOS 7 style Camera Roll
  • Slightly tweaked UI for third party app settings in the Settings App
  • My Photo Stream folder is back
  • Improvements to Map POIs and Live Traffic
  • The blue dot on recently updated apps is a little darker
  • Third-party keyboards work with Guided Access enabled
  • SMS Relay now works with iPad
  • Apple Pay settings hidden, but available
  • References/Support for Touch ID on iPad
  • "Traffic" location in system services renamed to "Routing & Traffic"
  • Touch ID on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is markedly faster
  • Reachability is now a bit quicker to reach the "midway point" of the screen
  • Asking Siri to "Show credit cards" takes you to the Passbook application in conjunction with ApplePay.
  • Fixes camera quick access on the lock screen
  • Siri now has a Bluetooth icon on the bottom right hand corner
  • Text Message Forwarding sending confirmation number to OS X Messages App

Bug Fixes:
iOS 8.1 Release Notes

I have 8.1 installed (did as an update from iOS 8.0.2) and no Camera Roll here, but recent photos replaced with "All Photos" but that is still only showing about 1400 of the 5000 pics on my iPhone 5S while using iCloud Photo Library.

one majorly annoying bug I have now is app updates require Apple ID password every time, Touch ID works on install of new apps but not updates, where updates did not even require password before.

iOS 8.1 has no performance improvements over 8.0 (except Touch ID), only bug fixes and changes. I assume 8.2 will be the equivalent to 7.1 when it comes to improving performance.

Is this from personal experience? A number of people are reporting improvements!!

That's worked with almost every beta lol

Have you tried restarting the phone?

I don't have the beta installed, but I'm curious. What would happen if you restart the phone with the beta installed?

I tried it it doesn't do anything just restarts it like normal.

There is always a placebo effect, but I still had lag on 8.1. I do think there is more stability though.

iOS 7.1 came out after Mavericks was released. With 8.1 they're still focused on Yosemite. I'm hoping that 8.2 will bring more drastic improvements like 7.1 did.
