Hey people running 8.1, what are the location privacy options like?

On 8.0.2 apps only ever offer either (Never or Always) or (Never or While Using App). I believe it was a bug and that all three options were meant to be available in at least some apps (i.e. Never or While Using App or Always)

Anyone see all three options in 8.1?

Would that not be something developers add to the app? Some apps offer all three settings.

This is up to developers. In the iOS 8 betas almost none of the apps had the option to allow while using the app and now that that public is out I'd say more than half of my apps have that option.

Oh really? That was my initial assumption (that it was an iOS 8 API that devs would have to update for) but I couldn't even see it in any stock apps. Then I found a pic online of an earlier iOS 8 beta showing the App Store offering all three options, but on my iPhone 5 running 8.0.2 I only see two for the App Store. That could just be an intentional change Apple made between the early beta to GM, but the impression I got from speaking to others was that it might be a bug.

If you could list some apps that have all three options that'd be great - I currently don't have any and I'm weirdly excited to see it in action :)

Ah yes, I remember the other thing making me think it might be a bug... Reminders only allows Never or While using the App. Now I know location based Reminders can be sketchy at their best, but I had location reminders not working, and I presumed because I couldn't set 'Always'.

Does anyone know if this is a bug / what the Reminder options are in iOS 8.1? Even if Reminders can 'break the rules' and ignore this setting because it's a stock App, it seems wrong to be so unclear about it on this screen!

Facebook is the only app on my iPhone 5 that offers all three options.

Cheers! I use Facebook but haven't wanted to use location, so it hadn't even requested it and didn't appear in the list. I went in the app to enable it, now it appears and I see all three options :)

Any input from anyone on whether the lack of always location for Reminders is an issue and, if so, whether it's fixed in 8.1 would be great, ta!

I think that would be too much for users... I think they should rename it aperture, add features + aperture compatibility, and keep aperture on the Mac and iOS for the higher end users....

That sounds really awesome but here we are... all stuck with this mediocre new stock Photos app.

I hate to bring up the old/new ios 8.1 camera roll again but after reading through all posts, I didnt see anything that addressed how this album was sorted. Are the photos sorted the same as in moments (I believe by date photo taken) or like it used to by (I believe by date added to camera roll)? My almost 7000 pictures are a mess right now (I lost all from an icloud beta glitch and had to restore from dropbox) and I am desperately seeking some kind of order.

It's exactly how it used to be.

Has the bug from iPad air with no sim card popping up been closed? If you have an iPad air with both wi-fi and celllular without simcard you will be constanly pestered with popups no sim card in iOS 8, when ios 7 was fine and dandy with this. useing flightmode with wi-fi on still gets the popup. So tired of this. Sigh.

remember people, don't just report the bugs here and whatever you stumble upon, report it to Apple too lol.

Did you try turning off "Cellular Data" in settings? That should completely shut down the cel radio.

If not, as a workaround, any deactivated SIM should suppress that message.

Sure.
Camera +
Facebook
Google search
Goolge maps
Snapchat
Sportcenter
Bleacher report
Yik yak
Uber
Twitter

There's many more, these are just some I have installed.

Thanks! I have the apps I left in the quote above, yet out of them only Facebook offers me all three, and only since today (see above)! Very strange, something wrong with my phone?

anyone else getting similar usage reports on iOS 8.1?
My usage and standby numbers are exactly the same.

no. u have something using battery check "up", facebook, a widget etc..keep facebooks location set to when using the app or never, but not always

thanks. This just started happening yesterday...not sure which app is causing the issue, but I suspect its the Apple Store app update that pushed yesterday. It was set to always and is the newest app updated.

OK, THIS WAS PAINFUL...after going thru every widget one-by one, I've found the culprit:
iMonitor

its running in the background and draining the battery. Deleted it from Today screen and all is back to normal.

Just installed the beta and wow I am amazed. It feels like it's jailbroken and has fakeclockup installed

for me it was n stats a few days ago, silent drainer it didnt even appear in the battery usage apps list, i tried imonitor for a few mins but disliked the UI & widget size, so i guess those hw monitoring widgets while nice are keeping the cpu awake in order to update

iOS 8.1 has no performance improvements over 8.0 (except Touch ID), only bug fixes and changes. I assume 8.2 will be the equivalent to 7.1 when it comes to improving performance.

Seems somewhat "snappier" all around based on feedback of some people (and my experience with it so far).

Same here. Deleted iMonitor from widgets and battery consumption return normal . I think it's from when they add info about network connection data a few days ago.
Thanks for share this

Odd, haven't noticed that with that widget.

Yes, it was fine until recent update.

Just to chime in on battery. My usage and standby were the same causing me to have terrible battery life. I found the culprit to be the Kevo app and turned off background data and now all is normal. My wife has a 5S and doesn't have this issue.
