Yes indeed they do. They are mutually exclusive. Here's why:

Forget your preconceived notions about what the Photos app is supposed to show you.

The Photos App has a Photos tab that shows you......wait for it.......Photos (and videos). Its all of them. Everything your camera has ever taken. You might call it....a CAMERA ROLL.

It also happens to be directly linked and synced to iCloud (assuming the elusive iCloud Photo Library is featured on your device). There is no distinction between whats on your device and what is stored in the Cloud. Delete it, it is deleted. Everywhere. There is no manually managing local and cloud storage separately (nor should there be).

This is finally THE solution (or will be, whenever iCloud Photo Library is rolled to the masses).

And to top it off, there is a genius option to Optimize Device Storage. In this mode, only thumbnails/low resolution copies of photo/video are stored on the device itself, and are instantly "fetched" in full quality from the cloud when you choose to view one.

It doesn't get any better than this. Unfortunately, many iOS 8 users do not even have access to iCloud Photo Library. Apple botched this release by missing the shipping date on this feature. Otherwise, it would be a lot easier to explain to people that they are waiting on a missing feature that completes the puzzle.
Or there's also an album called Camera Roll where only the locally stored photos and videos appear. Or there's some other way where one is present in certain cases and another in other cases. Again, having one there doesn't necessary mean something about the other.

x.x.x are bug updates usually, x.x are feature updates with bug fixes and other things, but usually something new in them as well (even if minor).

I just realized I used the wrong word (shouldn't have said not), but that's exactly what I meant.

.x (i.e. 7.x, or 8.x, or 6.x) bring the feature updates with usually something new, while x.x (7.x.x, 8.x.x, etc) are just bug fixes.

all those camera roll folders on ur device from previous devices/ios versions over the years (if u keep backing up & updating, never restoring) are now in one folder, all photos are still there & working, in order taken, just in one folder now when u plug the device into a computer

You don't need a separate camera roll with iCloud Photo Library actually in place. All you need is to understand how it actually works.

But for those of us who have no plans to use Photo Library, Camera Roll makes the most sense.

I don't need my local photos and my cloud based photos intermingled for me. This is exactly why I don't like Gmail. They suddenly decide one day to throw my e-mail in some categorized folder and I don't realize for a few days that I'm missing e-mail. I can manage the organization of my e-mail and my photos just fine. I never asked for their assistance.

lte speed seems to be back up so far

That's generally true but I think also, on a more technical level, all (potentially app breaking) API changes are limited to major (e.g. 8.0) and minor (8.1) versions.

With iOS 8 having so many new APIs it's no wonder that they are planning at least 3 minor releases, which offer an opportunity to smooth a few things out. Developers beware!

It's the old camera roll setting. In otherwords all your pics are in the roll. There are separate folders you can set up.

I didn't read all postings...IS IT TRUE?

Are they actually bringing (the real) Camera Roll back?

That would be awesome!

Woo goo! Glad to see the Camera Roll back. I did leave Apple Feedback on that (as I think many others did as well.)

Oooooo how do you do the second part?

It requires having access to a Mac, as well as paid iOS Developer Membership.

Basically, you can first get an *unsigned* (or DRM-free or whatever you call it) iPhoto's IPA file from the web (or a jailbroken iOS device). Then change its extension from .ipa to .zip

Unarchieve it. Open Payload, right click on app name and show app contents. Open info.plist with PlistEdit or any other editors you like, go change bundle identifier from "com.apple.mobileiphoto" to "com.apple.iphotolegacy" and save it. Then recompress the folder as a zip, change the extension back to ipa.

After that, drag it to iModsign/iResign and resign it with a developer certificate. Then you can install it on you phone.

You can turn off iCloud integration, and at no time does it matter whether or not there is a Album called Camera Roll.

The Photos tab is still ALL YOUR PHOTOS, regardless of whether you sync them to iCloud or not. No, it is not confusing either.

I understand, but I don't WANT them sorted by moments every single time. With the current iOS 8.0.2, if I take a photo, it gets saved to moments and shows up at the bottom (with the current date). However, if I save something from the web, it sometimes contains location/date info in the image format itself, and that totally messes up my photos as I have to go around hunting it down (especially if it was taken over a year ago).

With the Camera Roll, I have my photos sorted chronologically, without exterior data getting in the way. Thus, I have to disagree, it is confusing for people who don't know that information and save photos from social media/other websites for whatever reason. There is no need for "recently added", just show the entire Camera Roll. 99% of the times you're only going to access the photos that are on screen, which is why Apple defaults it to the bottom and not the top (unlike other albums).

Damn :( I'm not a iOS dev :'(

It would be much easier if Apple just allowed it to run for those who rely on it !

I love it.

Just shows that if enough people voice their disappointment Apple's got the balls to cave in and reverse their decisions... always better than just silently accepting everything.

Well, after the 8.0.1 fiasco, forced U2 albums and "bending phones" news Apple is not/was not in a good spot.
