Haven't heard of people jailbreaking their phone in a while, is it still popular?

I won't do anything without a jailbreak.

While it is becoming less and less of a necessity as iOS (slowly...) opens up, there is still a need. For example -

- Access to the file system
- Bluetooth file transfer
- Pairing things like Dualshock 4 to your iPhone/iPad
- System level adblockers (which also block iAds and Youtube video ads)
- Background Youtube audio (this is so useful!)
- Assigning specific actions to buttons with activator

Among a bunch of other stuff. JB is still a must for me.

Are these safe? I've been tempted to jailbreak one of my iOS devices just to see what the fuss is about, but I'm unsure about opening up my devices to potential "baddies".
It's as unsafe as you make it. Kind of like a regular operating system.

The main reason I really jailbreak is to run a firewall, so ideally that's going to do its job.

It keeps restarting at 20%. Hold Your Fire, I Repeat Hold Your Fire.
It's a trap. RETREAT.

Jailbreak released!! Finally, now I can actually do stuff with my iPhone!!

Finnaly... I was already losing hope for a JB release!!

hope this one also works with 8.4

What's this one called?

I can't remember, it's on my iPad which is at home - although I'll have a look and get back to you when I get back from work (it's 14:30 in the UK now so I'll be back in about three hours).

It's dead useful. Not only do you get background audio out of the app, but in app the video doesn't stop when you pull up the control center too, so you can easily adjust the volume without stopping the video from playing.

Nice!
Jailbreaking is no longer a necessity for me, but I'll always do it, if I can, for fun things like emulators and aesthetic tweaks. :D

It's only rumoured that the patches are fixed in 8.4, nothing conclusive.

Statement from i0n1c:
Stefan Esser‏@i0n1c
If the bugs used by TaiG are not patched in iOS 8.4 betas then there is no way that Apple will fix them in the final in just one week

Hmm, that's unusually. Ionic isn't complaining. Well I haven't looked at the rest of his feed.

Also Cydia Substrate not working is most probably not a Substrate thing but a TaiG kernel fix.

Better wait for the next TaiG 8.3 update to fix that.

from Saurik:
[Release] Taig has released iOS 8.3 untethered jailbreak! by viskelaer in jailbreak

No: Substrate fundamentally requires some kernel patches; the informal definition of failbreak is essentially "incapable of running Substrate". In fact, it seems like all that is needed to get Substrate working on iOS 8.3 would be a kernel patch in the TaiG jailbreak :/.

What's even more ir0n1c is that i0n1c is saying that the only thing wrong with Substrate can be fixed with a "2 byte kernel patch", and I believe him, which means it might have nothing at all to do with me ;P.

@mods
Isn't t better to have this on the Jailbreak section as it already was?

Like others, it stops on 20%, reboots the phone and then repeats over and over. It's not the drivers, it prompted me to install them which I did.

Glad I tried this on a 5S instead of the 6+ that I use.

I've been out of the jailbreak scene for quite a while now.. what are the implications of the substrate not working? Is this something I should wait for an update to be released before using? Or is it something that can be updated via cydia or whatever after the fact? All I'm wanting to do is install emulators on an ipad.

90% of the packages won't function without MobileSubstrate working properly. You can jailbreak now to get it over with and wait for an update (as I did). Just nice to see Cydia on my homescreen again.

Emulators should be fine.

Thanks for the reply. So by "get it over with and wait for an update" do you mean there would be an update via cydia? Or something else from TaiG I'd need to run on my computer later on?
