.0 releases are generally problematic. This is not unique to Apple. There's just no way for a developer to catch all problems that could manifest in the wild. For this reason, I wait at least one month and for 2-3 updates before upgrading to a .0. The problem here is that Apple posts releases for automatic update as soon as they GA. I think that is a bad idea-- unless there is some urgent security problem, I think it would be wiser for Apple to delay a week after GA before notifying users that an update is available.

You're right, except for things like losing cell service after an update should be caught. That's not exactly a corner case.

Also testing bluetooth on the top 5 car manufacturers shouldn't be too much of a stretch either. If you're talking THIS phone with THIS software running THIS app talking to THIS radio is an issue, yes, that would be hard to find. But not when it's a majority of radios are seeing some kind of issue.

I'm not so sure. I think these kinds of things happen fairly frequently with major updates. iOS 6 and iOS 7 had their share of issues, too. What's happening is that they did drop the ball (iOS 8.01), plus had the overblown "Bendghazi" issue and so everything is getting scrutinized. Look back on the posts from 2012 and you'll see that "iOS 6 was the worst rollout ever." I'm sure in 2015 iOS 9 will be the "worst rollout ever."

I get your point, but technically, that can be true if the rollouts keep getting worse.

I think what's happening is that Apple is expanding into more and more areas, which means they have more and more opportunities for issues. They're trying to enable CarPlay, ApplePay, HealthKit, HomeKit in addition to the feature updates and improvements typically in any upgrade.

In the past, people would always complain that Apple devices didn't have as many features as other devices, and I always replied that at least Apple's features worked and were much easier to use. I think that's a lot better response that what I say right now, which is "Well, Android has lots of problems, too, but no one talks about them." To me, that's a cop out, even if it is true.

Apart from Maps, what else did he screw up?

Shall we count what's gone wrong since he left?

"Other than that, how was the theatre, Mrs. Lincoln?"

Forstall also oversaw Siri, which had a less than stellar rollout and is still playing catch-up to Google Now and Microsoft Cortana. He also apparently didn't get along with Jony Ive and Bob Mansfield.

New OS new issues, i feel like the pace of competition that is supposed to benefit consumers is actually affecting usability in some areas. It's great to see but apple needs to understand that when they push updates like this they're forcing issues onto people that really don't need the updates.

I wish there was a way to only force/push updates once all the bugs are sorted rather than at GM *.0 releases which always have bugs that are rare or only turn up once large install base and accessories are used. Developer previews never catch those issues so we are being treated like a testing round, apple should push only .1 or .2 software.

Absolutely no issues with a 6+ and my UK 2014 Ford. In fact my iPhone 5 had stopped displaying texts on screen for some reason. The 6+ is flawless. I hope some fix won't go and bust it for me now

We don't know that it's a majority of radios that have this issue. Remember, different cars from the same manufacturer can have different BT modules.

I have intermittent issues.
It connects but I get no audio in the car.
It connects then may drop during a call.

I also am having issues with my Pebble losing connection, at least the "LE" part.

This is with a 6+ running 8.02.

I wiped the phone yesterday and so far, the car phone is working.
Pebble still seems to drop though.

It's a tradeoff. People complained about the lack of features. Now people complain about bugs. The bugs can and will be fixed. Overall, apart from the 8.0.1 update I've been reasonably happy with the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 experience. It's been out 2 weeks now. 2 weeks into any major update there are usually issues still unresolved.

Nice :) I like that!!!

Forstall also oversaw Siri, which had a less than stellar rollout and is still playing catch-up to Google Now and Microsoft Cortana. He also apparently didn't get along with Jony Ive and Bob Mansfield.

True. But Siri did work. Maybe not perfect, but worked. So what if he didn't get along with people? I don't get along with everyone I work with but we still all get the job done.

I'm not defending Scott nor saying he's crap. I'm just playing Gates' Advocate - all the people who say he should come back then the people who bring up Maps, it seems like Maps is the only thing they can use as a defence to say he was crap.

i've been on iOS 8 (from the betas to gm release and 8.0.2) on the 5s and then on the 6 and i've had zero bt issues in the car (tesla).. fwiw. i think some users don't understand that a full re-pair is required when switching hardware, and we all know the pairing process can be annoying (for a few minutes anyway...).

2¢.

As a huge Apple fan, I have to say this is the worst roll-out of products and services in the company's history. And right when they needed to blow the world away...

Unfortunately, this may be the case for you, but you're forgetting that this possibly affects only a couple hundred/thousand users. That's nothing compared to the dozens of millions it does not affect (and those will not complain on internet forums).

Just because the (sensational) media hypes everything up with their new hip-word "gate", it doesn't mean that's actually the case.

Try operating at a scale that Apple does and you will find that it's impossible to get everything 100% correct.

Is anybody having any issues with the continuity option now available for iOS eight and multiple Apple products? I can't get continuity to work across any of my devices?

A total nightmare

I have used my iPhone in a variety of cars with little to no issue. Since upgrading, I have had nothing but terrible problems like mid-call the connection to the car - does not drop the call but the stereo turns back on and the phone call continues. It has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing. My car is brand new, has no issue with other phones, and is set up to accommodate bluetooth onboard....

Apple, please make this nightmare stop!

iPhone 6 Plus + Lamborgini Veneno + Bugatti Veyron +Porsche +Ferrari+Gucci Mobile just fine! My 98 Honda, issues gets stolen every other day but bluetooth is fine!

Worst quality control ever.

This is starting to look the Apple of 15 years ago. Where you waited 6 months before installing the new OS, to make sure the bugs were worked out.

Yeah the thought occurred to me that it might be the way the manufacturers implemented the bluetooth stack, however if it worked with iOS7 and earlier or different phones, then it is probably an iOS 8 issue. So many variables that it could be down to anything.

Thought I would reply to one annoying comment with another.

(Double or quits?)
It bent my car.
