Do all apps work with the GM?

Well considering how many there are (1.2 million as of June 2014) I doubt they "all" work. :) However, all the ones I have tried so far (I have over 300 on my iPhone) seem to be working fine. I expect we will see a bunch of app updates between now and the official iOS 8 release (Sept 17th).

So I'm assuming the bmo banking app still doesn't. Ok thanks

Finally downloaded Xcode 6 and now I'm downloading the iPhone software update via iTunes. Anyone have any idea roughly how long it takes to download? There's no indication as to how long it'll take. Progress bar is just moving along and the blue progress bar in the downloads section is completely blue.

Really just want my phone working again.

Thanks Tdar for the Xcode remnants tip. Xcode is next, now that i got iPhone running iOS 8 GM.

- I uninstalled iTunes 12 and went to the app store > updates.
- In Updates, there were 2 iTunes updates listed, iTunes 12 and iTunes 11.4.
- I installed iTunes 11.4 onto osx10.10 DP7 and iPhone iOS8 GM update Solved.
- removed itunes libraries from music folder and launched iTunes.
-plugged in phone and >option restored to iOS 8 GM.
-done!

There's a discreet apple talk in description iTunes 11.4 description reads "iTUnes 11.4 now supports the ability to sync your favorite music, movies, and more to devices with iOS 8."

(btw, the only way i could uninstall iTunes 12 was with app zap)

If you are downloading the Software update via iTunes you are loading iOS 7.1.2!?

you need to manually download iOS 8 GM in the DevCenter.

Hey guys what about the Facebook notification quick reply? Doesn't seem to work

Facebook needs to add in iOS 8 API but developers aren't allowed, Apple prevents, apps updates with iOS 8 API until public release which would be the September 17.

Size of ipsw for A1533 Iphone 5s IOS 8 GM

Hi,

Can anyone confirm the size of the ipsw for the iPhone 5s IOS 8 gm? I am downloading it and it says 1.82gb zip file. I saw it elsewhere bigger!

Thanks,

James

iOS 8 GM Which iTunes Version?

So let me make sure I have this straight before I try to install the GM. Does it have to be installed via iTunes 12, or can I use iTunes 11.4. Reason I'm asking is because my laptop that I have with me only has 11.4. My iMac at home is the one with 12. Thanks.

You can use 11.4

Thanks for the reply. Also, will I be able to restore from backup (iOS 8, beta 5)? Seems like I read something about have to completely erase the device after installing the GM? If I do have to erase, can I then restore my backup? Thanks again.

You don't have to erase the device. That post was about resetting network settings after completing the install. The post wasnt as clear as it should have been. Yes, you can back up. I suggest using iTunes 11.4 right now to back up.

so this bar across the bottom of maps when it is on the lock screen isn't a bug? if so, that is one of the biggest waste of screen space ever.

Certain animations are really laggy on my iPhone 5s where they weren't in iOS 7. Also, I'm not sure what the big whoop is about iOS 8 as a whole. There are so few major new features and kinda bummed out Siri still does't support Dutch. I've been using OS X Yosemite since Public Beta 1 and didn't really follow iOS 8 much, but I'm severely underwhelmed by it.

I am also running the GM on an iPhone 5s and I have yet to find a bug as I have been using it now for a couple of hours. Heck even my most frequently used apps seem to work out just fine too.

Is anyone else having issues closing apps in the multitasking screen? For instance, after swiping an app up to close it, the screenshot of the app will disappear, but the app's icon will remain at the bottom of the screen. This happened occasionally in iOS 7, but it seems to happen almost consistently in iOS 8. See example:

Yeah, it's not like extensions, new keyboards, handoff, continuity, and quick replies/actionable notifications are not some of the biggest changes to iOS in some time. But I guess since the icons still look the same then probably nothing really changed.

That's not a bug with iOS 8. I had that issue throughout iOS 7.

Using iPhone 5s.

I was wondering... if I installed the GM but have to take my phone into the Apple Store for an unrelated issue before the public release of iOS 8, will they give me a hard time or refuse to replace my phone?

No, they will not give you a hard time.

Yeah that's what I found out at 3am haha!

Yeah I'm finally on the iOS 8 GM now and just loading everything on but all seems to be going well at the moment anyway.

Has been a nightmare though. Not sure I want to be in the dev program after it all. I gave app development ago but web development is more my thing, not app development.

I used 11.3 on Mavericks to "update" my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 but my iPad Air is not cooperating.
Maybe because it was already on beta-5?
The first attempt failed with an error saying to upgrade iTunes.
11.3 was good enough for my iPhone but I went ahead and installed 11.4 anyway.
iPad was already in recovery mode at this point but the next attempt also failed with the same error.
I tried restoring to 7.1.2 and that also failed.
I rebooted the whole computer and finally got it to restore to 7.1.2.
Then tried the iOS 8 upgrade again and it failed again.
Tried at least 6 or 7 times using both recovery and DFU modes (with a few failed 7.1.2 attempts) before finally getting it back to 7.1.2.
I might try again tonight.
Hope the actual released version plays nicer.
