I got rid of the location icon that was on so much of the time, even though no app I was using required location services. Setting, privacy, location services, system services and make sure Frequent locations is off. It was on by default.

Data hang ups are killing me. Airplane mode doesn't fix it. I have to restart my phone 2x a day to get the data working again.

Iphone 6+

You are not alone

I've had new iPhones on launch day since the beginning. Each one with a new version of iOS. There's been a few rough versions. iOS 8 is by far the worst. Lousy wifi performance, screen scroll lag, 4g and LTE data dropout, bluetooth bugs galore, landscape rotation lockups, unfinished apps etc...

I'll wait it out but I'm thinking Cook might be a bit too soft to get the job done. That software team has to release a better product than this. No excuses.

The new iPhones are beautiful. I bought the 6 plus and I love it. iOS 8 will be awesome but is sucks right now.

They were never perfect out of the gate. Not even close. Push notifications on iPhone OS 2? It was in the keynote and never happened. iOS 4 on an iPhone 3G anyone? Maps??? Alarm gate? There was always a point release very soon afterwards. Expect one in October that will fix the worst of the bugs.

----------

So you went to bed after installing it, and then without using it scrambled to restore it. Hmmm really fair trial you gave it there.

----------

This forum is far from a majority.

----------

It is NOT the worst release ever. That has to go to iOS 4. It was poor on a 3GS, unresponsive in that it took 15 seconds to answer a call after you swiped to answer on a 3G.

I agree there are plenty of bugs. However this has been par for the course on most iOS releases.

Bingo. Spot on.

Tell Apple about your problems. They can fix them then!

Oh I did give it a few hours, didn't even sleep that night. I was downloading apps when it kept slowing down so I said 'Restore time!'

OMG Apple forgot a period on the iTunes agreement....this update is rubbish
;)

Enough of your sarcasm. If it works for you doesn't mean it works equally well for others. Apple uses displays and memories from different manufacturers. So there will always be minor variances even if the specs are totally identical. Hence these issues.

iOS 8 is non-usable on iPad Airs. Most of the complaints on iPads are revolving around disgraceful Safari Mobile performance on it. iPhone 5s and 5c which are last year devices are also running laggy albeit slightly. All the devices are rebooting once or twice a day. That's unacceptable.

I think for me the main issues are on the iPhone 5:

- a single press of the home button turns into a double press and brings up the window switcher

-photos app is a mess. I struggle to find old pictures. So I am using the search function a lot

-for some reason on the home lock screen, when I have a message and I take the phone or of standby, the clock doesn't appear for about 1.5 seconds

Probably a few more I'm forgetting.

Apple Pay isn't really an iOS 8 feature and wasn't pulled. Health is still there just a bug in HealthKit that is being worked on. Family Sharing is there as far as I can tell. Some iCloud stuff isn't yet. Pretty far from a fiasco.

IOS 8 is super slow and buggy on my iPad air. I have to charge like 3 times. I start to hate apple now. Apple sucks. Come on they cannot release such a buggy software. It is very heavy on battery. Icloud is a total crap and safari is closing all the time.

Costly stuff n crap inside.

Really !!! I didn't know you had some sort of spyware going in my household to know that all our iPads and iPhones are rebooting twice a day !!!! Even I didm't know that they are all rebooting daily !!! Thanks for the heads up ..

.

I absolutely agree ..its a complete disaster , they may have big things in mind while creating ios 8 but they forgot the basic . plus there are some bugs in this which really frustrates me .

Really ? My Air currently shows almost 14h usage and almost 3 days standby with 30% battery left i.e. no major battery drain at all.

I have iOS8 installed on one Air, one mini gen 1 and one iPad 2 and the only bug I have seen do far is the WiFi slow down bug, but only on the Air. Speed wise all three seem to be similar to iOS7.

Having just upgraded my iPad3 from iOS8 to iOS7 (yes, I did write that the correct way around) the performance, scrolling, home button and Safari are back to acceptable levels of performance.

There may have been other bugs but I never used the thing long enough with iOS8 to find out. When even the home button is slow, the software is clearly not a good fit for my positively ancient iPad (you know, with the same chip as the iPAD Mini that Apple are still selling).

So weird how some have issues and many do not. I ran the IOS 8 betas on my iPad Air, iPhone 5s, Yosemite on my iMac. I had some issues but nothing like what some people experience. I have experienced the tab reloading on my air but honestly i don't give a crap about that. Sure seems to tune others up however.

IOS 8 Working fine here 5s & iPad air

I have iPad air too. But it is very laggy with ios 8.

I've installed more operating systems than you might think. And, often older hardware functions better after an update. Apple isn't forcing the update??? It claimed to offer more security. This OS had no features that I had any real interest in - I was pretty happy with the way it was working before the update. The unit was a gift to me and isn't quite three years old. I don't appreciate Apple putting out an update that causes it work improperly. I'm glad you're satisfied. I am not.

Sounds like what happened to my father. I gave him my old iPhone 4 18 months ago and he absolutely loved it. Then iOS7 downloaded and my father installed it unwittingly....
He never had any experience of a faster, more modern phone. All he had was experience of the iPhone 4 running iOS6 and he was immediately disappointed that his phone had slowed to a crawl and become a frustrating device to use. Even with newer or the latest iPhone, updates are invariably a nightmare for one reason or another but on older devices they can be permanently destructive. In fact, the experience put him off Apple. He was disgusted they would render his phone pretty much useless and force him to upgrade. He bought a new laptop instead and although he still uses the iPhone 4, it's only for calls and SMS.

So far my experience is my 5c runs perfect with no lag or stuttering. The 3rd gen ipad I had to downgrade or as I prefer upgrade back to 7.

Maybe on certain devices/configurations more issues than others. On my 5s i noticed the following:

- slight wifi slowdown compared to IOS 7
- widgets on websites darker than usual

Overall IOS 8 fells snappier on my 5s than IOS 7. If I knew then what I know now I would still upgrade.

And I'm really liking the predictive keyboard widget.

2 iphones 5s' and two iPad 2 update with no significant issues.

There comes a time when hardware has reached its useful life. It came 17 years with my $550 TV receiver-monitor, 14 years with my $300 Sears lawnmower and 20 years with my last bed, which cost a grand. But, if Apple is trying to send the message that my $700 iPad is obsolete after 3 years, I don't need that, I'll go elsewhere for my next laptop, all-in-one, TV-interface, phone, mp3-player, you get the picture. As stated earlier, I cut my teeth on PCs. And, I never had an update from MS that bricked anything. Some Apple lovers will tolerate this. However, I think bad updates that leave your electronics in bad shape is unacceptable.

Anyone seeing this: The standby and usage are the same AND it won't load what apps are using the most battery. Bought iPhone 6 two days ago. It was restored from a backup of my iPhone 5 where this function was confirmed to be working. I've turned off anything that COULD be running in the background, restarted it, etc. I really want to avoid a fresh restore and starting the phone as brand new. Anyone else seeing this?

I'm glad so many people are enjoying iOS8. Many of us have not, however.

If OTA updates or "upgrades in place" are responsible for many of the issues, Apple should clearly say that they recommend plugged-in, complete wipes for the updates.

When hardware is nearing the end of the support period for updates (iPhone 4s, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad Mini) Apple should provide some easy way for users unsatisfied with the performance of the "final update" to be able to go back, and not for just a few days. Apple should provide clear instructions for backing up, installing the update, and for restoring to the backup if performance isn't up to snuff. Older hardware should not be hamstrung by the last update; it smacks of a plan to force users to upgrade by crippling the older devices.

The number of stupid UI changes (especially, but not only, in Safari) is appalling; the number of bugs in the system software is appalling. If a new OS isn't really out of the beta phase, it should not be pushed out to older hardware simply because it's time for the new iPhones. It seems to me that Apple needs to significantly lengthen the beta phase, and should offer public betas if they need more user input. Regular users should not be used as beta testers: Apple, for regular users, it NEEDS to "just work."

Clearly it's the opposite of that for many others. So...yeah...

....couldn't agree more!

Also - these 12 pages or so of 'Bugs' - why were NONE of these picked up in the Betas and eliminated before iOS 8 was released to the masses?!

Most of the bugs mentioned have already been reported to Apple. But final version of iOS 8 introduced new bugs which were not encountered before.

Blind people are really suffering the bugs are worse with voiceover. Sometimes my wife has two different voices going on at the same time
