As long as someone's looking for a disaster, they'll find it. Even if they have to blow things out of proportion to do it.

Oh and motherboards and video cards, sound cards and NICs etc all come with their own drivers, so it's a piece of cake setting up a new Windows computer. All you need is the ability to read.

Exactly proving the point. If Microsoft supported it, then no additional software would be necessary.

Actually I was on Linux for two years after a malicious ad let a virus walk right through the latest version of Firefox on a fully updated Windows XP box and EAT MY HARD DRIVE. I don't remember the name of the virus but after two days of trying to get rid of it I finally said duck it, low level formatted with an Ubuntu CD and was so happy to be rid of Microsoft after being stuck on it for 8 years. Then of course Ubuntu blew it with Unity so I just bit the bullet and went to OS X.

Ubuntu had been well on their way to being the desktop of choice around the world until a certain CEO's ego got in the way.
I like Ubuntu, but as far as I can recall it only managed to garner about 1% of the population or was that the total for Linux.

Let's face it, without Microsoft the world would have had a lot less computers and we might all still be sitting at a $10,000 wooden Mac.

Seriously, this is worse than last year. iOS 7 had an excuse, it was a new design. IOS 8 is not, so it shouldn't have graphical performance issues.

Exactly, IOS 8 is just an upgrade to IOS 7 so there's no way that things should have been as bad as they are. I suppose there are so many different ways that people could have stuffed up the install that it's all their own fault, kidding of course.

iOS 8 has arguably more and bigger changes that just happen to be less visible than a UI redesign.

I tried and it won't let me. It says not supported any more.
People were just recently posting about doing it.

Not in my experience. On my 5s, iOS 7.0 was much less stable than iOS 8.0 has been. Recall all the threads last year about Safari and other app crashes. I have yet to have a single crash in Safari, and the other apps I've had problems with were already problematic even before updating to iOS 8. If anything, I think more developers have had their apps ready to go for iOS 8, and that's helped reduce the reports I've seen about common app crashes and errors.

iOS 7 thoroughly changed the user-facing aspects, but everything I've read so far about iOS 8 indicates that this update has more drastic changes going on under-the-hood. Changes to the UI would seem to have less influence on graphical performance than what's running underneath. The stability issues last year took until November when 7.0.4 came out to largely get resolved.

Scott forstal must come back

How many of us misses stability and dedign that was detailed very carefully in IOS 6 the music player , faster animation , etc

Ohhhhh my god please help us

He was a loose cannon who ran amock the moment steve was no longer there to hold the leash, and it showed in ios6. It was easily the most lackluster update in iOS history, with no groundbreaking features to speak of save maps (and even that was without its fair share off issues).

Scott may be a talent, but if he can't work with others, and keeping him around does more damage to the morale and working environment than he is worth, I really see no reason to keep him.

If you knew anything about iOS 8 you would know its a bigger change than iOS 7

Agreed! iOS 6 was a bore. He had his talents but personally his design taste, to me, was full of cheese and very un-Apple like. Surprises me that Jobs embraced him as he did considering the design taste he was known for.

You must be the unluckiest guy on the planet, even those August patches weren't that bad. I've had dozens and dozens of Windows computers going back to Windows 3.1 and I've never had any real major dramas and only 2 major virus attacks.

Microsoft never forced you to do anything you could have used Linux or OSX if you really wanted problems and much less ability to do things.

Yeah, there's a reason why I use OS X and iOS at home. Not all of us have a choice as to which OS our workplace uses.

Unluckiest guy? No, that would be the unfortunate coworkers that wound up getting PCs with Windows ME or Vista pre-installed. Made my issues look like a walk in the park by comparison.

People love to whine.

I've noticed. I find it hard to complain terribly much about some things if I've been there before. I've worked at two different fast food places in my life, so you won't hear me complaining because IT TOOK FIVE MINUTES TO GET MY FOOD THAT ONE TIME. Same with glitches in software. They happen. The key is getting them fixed and learning lessons so you don't make the same mistake twice.

So, you don't like his taste. OK, each to his own. But, how about bugs and performance issues? Do you agree or disagree that his stuff was less buggy and had more consistent performance?

Oh, I loved vista. Open control panel, box comes up, windows is opening the control panel do you want it to? Ummmm..... Now that I've had half a second, let's see....

Install a program, you have launched an install program, proceed? Yes.... Windows is installing a program, proceed? yes.... The program is installing, proceed? Yes... The program is about to make changes, proceed? Yes.... The program has made changes, allow? Yes... Installation has finished, would you like to open the program? Yes.... A program is about to open, allow? Yes.... Are you sure? Yes... Are you really sure? Yes... do you trust this program? Yes...

I always felt like the computer couldn't figure out that the reason I clicked on an icon was because I wanted to use it.

I spent more time clicking yes, than doing anything else.

Yep, my coworkers that ended up with Vista PCs were in constant battle with their computers. I had to configure their laptops to work with a new projector, and by the time I was done, I was ready to fight someone. Convoluted design-by-committee with 1,000 yeses for every no. Thankfully, I went directly from XP to Win7, and our IT guy has standardized the entire office on 7 and used the downgrade licenses to keep it that way.

True. Most people loved iOS for its finish, responsiveness and stability. iOS 7.0 didn't exactly deliver on that, 7.1 was a nice improvement. However, I think people were expecting iOS 8 to take it one step further in terms of finish, responsiveness and stability to make up for the disappointment iOS 7 caused for many. In stead, iOS 8 took one step back and added a dozen new features that are all buggy in some way. So yet again we're left with software that should still have been in beta.

Older devices tend to have more bugs.
Apple tend to focus more on newly released iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
It's understandable, hopefully iOS 8.1 would come soon and fix a lot of rough edges.

So am I gonna experience all these issues on my new iPhone 6 with iOS 8 when I receive it in a couple weeks time?? I know nothing is perfect but I hope I don't have to deal with all this crap people are talking about.

I cannot stand iOS 8, why is it so clunky on iPad 2? Is it me or have the hand gestures changed for closing apps? You used to be able to pinch the whole screen from big to small?

I also don't understand the change they had to make to Safari, why is it when scrolling the address bar disappears with the tabs? A seriously irritating feature when I am trying to go to another tab.

Don't worry, it's just as clunky on my iPad Air, which according to some on here is an older machine.

I've got an iPad 2 as well which I won't be upgrading.

Yup. It does irritate our eyes when the address bar is disappearing and coming back just as you scroll up and down. But to me it's abundantly clear that iPad is being treated as step child by Apple. Everything is developed in and around iPhone. Since Safari is a wretched piece of software on iPad in iOS 8, I might switch permanently to Android based tablet.

I would describe latest Mobile Safari in Steve Job's own words. "A bag of hurt"

But I will continue to use iPhones for their superior sound quality. I actually noticed that sound quality on my 5S and 5c has slightly improved on 8.

Yes Safari on the iPad is terrible!! It crashed a lot, the top bar annoyingly disappeared and it was as slow as hell!

I have tried Chrome, but for some reason Safari seems quicker to me. I would like to know who is doing Usability Testing over at Apple?

The previous Safari browser was fine, they just needed to add the "New Window" and "Private" options.
