For Android users a "lockup" is how the phone usually works so maybe they didn't see any different... Most Android users don't even bother upgrading their phone.... If they can even get the upgrade. More than half Android phones are Botnet magnets because of unpatched security holes. IOS generally gets completely stable for 98% of people within 3 months. Others tend to blame App crashes on Apple...

I'm really sure that those things are just said to start a flame bait.

----------

As for Androids, I know there are hundreds of bugs; version 5 right now is bugged up solid, 50 times worse than 8 at launch.

Those are the facts. IOS compared to all those other software is relatively bug free and generally most important to moderate bugs are resolved within 3 months.

Ah, yes, you're just joking

Anyone here among the 4%'ers?

House has an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.4 (I think), man is it responsive (and beautiful). Have a iPad 2 and iPad 4 on 7.1.2, but would gladly downgrade them to 6 if it was possible and won't be taking them up to 8 for further slowdown (if there wasn't a performance hit with every new version of iOS, I'd update...).

Have a iPhone 6 with 8.x.

I don't get all the hate in this forum. iOS 8 is a fantastic upgrade, and especially with 8.1.1 there's no good reason NOT to upgrade your iPhone 4S.

I run iOS6 on both my 4S and my iPad .... 7 was bad and 8 is awful.
Somebody really needs to give Johnny a reward for his years of service and send him out to pasture.

In fact, I would rather see Scott F, come back to Apple and replace Johnny.
Since taking the reins at Apple all he has done is taken hardware with deafeningly crisp edges to hardware that is less definable and with rounded edges. And software with great graphics and intuitive navigational simplicity. To simple graphics and complex navigation.

However, sales keep rising .... but at this point Apple could release a n overpriced and useless product and people would buy it. **cough Apple watch** ... At least in the old days, us so called fanbois bought products that were good.

Today the majority of what is good that is coming from Apple is pre designed by other companies.

Can't be Worse

I update most of my Apple devices on the principle that it can't be worse. Sometimes I am wrong...

Is Apple smart or just arrogantly enforcing it's will on the dumb punters?

sadly the inability to downgrade and new devices shipping with 8 , does skew the results.

I'd love to put my iPad back to 7.

If your read an article featuring either Samsung or Microsoft, you will soon realise this may in fact be a religious cult site, where your balanced opinions will be viewed as heresy ;)

I bet that if you took a poll, a lot of users here would not even realise it's a rumors site lol....

Where you come from live must be a lot slower..... ;)
There's no skewing of the results as they are there for developers to represent the portions of devices in different iOS versions. How they got to those versions or whether they like them isn't a factor or relevant to what the chart is about and what it is for.

----------

I think it's safe to say that the only reason this metric might have value are for developers who are taking advantage of APIs or features in one version of iOS vs another.

For everyone else - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz who really cares?
That is in fact the primarily reason as to why the chart exists.

----------

This article should have compared iOS 8 adoption rates to where iOS 7 was at the same time after its introduction. I assume iOS 8's adoption is lower. But by how much? All the numbers given in the article are pretty much useless without some context.
The chart is there for a different reason, and it serves that reason just fine.

Yeah, I do not get new iOS design. I understand how they were trying to make it more electronic rather than imitate analog, but navigating the new flat design is painful….for me anyway. I am about ready to get my iPhone 4 back online with iOS 5.

Will stick with iOS 6 on my iPad till it breaks and then no more iPads for me.I can't stand iOS 7/8 on my iPad just boring and flat with blinding white and Hello kitty icons:)

i have been lucky with my iOS 8. i only got problems with app that are not ios 8 support, if i ever get one. iOS 8 works perfect here. :)

I think that iOS 5 and iOS 6 should have been broken out because there are those that can't upgrade from iOS 5 because they have the original iPad. The others not upgrading is by choice.

Thanks - I loved your humor this morning!

My grand father's FaceTime & iMessage stopped working, he said he had to install iOS 8 (from iOS 7 on iPad 2) to get it to work.

Or if you're like me and you REFUSE to update because you just KNOW that the next update will cripple your iphone. I still have my old iphone 4 running on ios 6.1.2 jailbroken. I will NEVER update it. I use it as a backup alarm clock. I don't care about apps. I just want my phone to WORK in case I need to use it as a backup phone.

Back in march I said "F" it to apple and vowed never to get another apple product again. Bought myself a galaxy s3, have NEVER looked back. Just bought a nexus 5 and let me tell you, it's just as buttery smooth as an iphone.

Android has come a long way. Ios is on the decline. Each new update is buggier than the one before it. Funny how android has had 5 major revisions yet ios has had 8 and STILL can't get anything right.

Just out of curiosity, why post on apple forum if you really don't like apple products? I mean I get it, I know this isn't an apple fan club and everyone and anyone can post their viewpoints but it just boggles my mind when people post here who really don't like the products and "vow to never use them again". It's just like being negative for the sake of being negative. Kinda seems like a waste of time but hey bigger things have shocked me.

Your very right in what you said and Ive should not have been given the job to redesign iOS

zero issues here. Try a full restore.

3rd party keyboard issues is mainly what I'm referring to... the issues there are well known and documented. Aside from that iOS8 definitely isn't bug free by far. And definitely not fixed by a 'restore'... count yourself lucky.

please elaborate, i'd love to get an insight in your wisdom. especially because my nexus 5 is running perfectly fine with lollipop, without any bugs. please tell me what i'm missing?!

Still very happy about iOS 8, especially since iOS 8.1 release

Lollipop is a nightmare for many users, and Google stopped distribution for a while (received only yesterday on my Nexus 7).

You are running an ancient iOS on very old devices, but you are sure iOS 8 is bad ...........
Us so called fanboys are still buying products that are good, but you clearly don't.

----------

Parents use an iPhone 5C and run iOS8 quite well..

IPhone 5C runs iOS 8 well. For the same reason the iPhone 5 runs iOS quite well.
Most of the vocal complainers are users running iOS 8 on very old devices like iPhone 4S or iPad 2 ......

----------

I wanted to buy a new iMac every time they released a new one. But until this one is running i won't. I put an SSD in it and with the stuff i do i can't think of a reason to buy a new one. When this one just breaks, then i'll buy one.

How are you dealing with the Yosemite issue on third party SSD?
I'm scared about my MBP.....

So, you think they sold 10% of the installed base in 1 Month? (they probably sold 20-25M phones in that month, that's less than 10%) Even for their crazy sales that seems high. If people upgraded to 8 before buying their new phone, you wouldn't get any increase if they retire this old phone, only if someone keeps using it.

I believe you misunderstood my comment. I'm not sure how to reply as your comment is a tangent from mine.

The high adoption is simply because New and some updated apps only work on iOS. My second gen ipod is useless. That's Apple!

I thought iPods are for music. But still gotta agree, they should stop moving forward and developing stuff for new tech!

..Just like with this Acer's 128MB MP3 player. 4 years older than your iPod and no Spotify or .WAV support! Or even OS update! Damn Acer!
