So then... why are you still here?
This is a mac RUMOR'S site not a mac FANsite. But who are you to question me??????????????????????????????

I own apple products. I still have my old iphone 4 jailbroken on 6.1.2. I have a 2007 macbook and an 09 imac, and the last ipod classic 160gb.

To answer your question, I'm here because I like reading up on apple rumors. Do you have a problem with that? Do you want to question me on anything else?

Awesome. Now I wish Apple would let me downgrade back to iOS 7 because iOS 8 is a complete *****how on my iPad 3. It's made Safari 100% worthless and the five to seven second delay when tying in any text box makes it so that I rarely if ever pick up my iPad to do anything other than watch youtube videos when I take a dump. iOS 8 is by far the worst version they've released and it's full of stupid bugs and horrible performance. After restoring it three times and setting it up as new I've decided that despite everything that Apple says they are hell bent on making sure that their hardware only lasts through one major update. Past that the performance is so terrible that the device is pretty much useless for everyday tasks. My $400+ iPad is now almost entirely useless because it takes literally almost ten seconds to respond to any input and it's all down to how terrible iOS 8 is. I really do not know why Apple refuses to let people downgrade and instead forces a terrible user experience on their customers for any reason other than to make sure that they can makes contextless boasts like this.

Do you want to go in with me on a class action lawsuit against apple and how they destroy our older devices by putting out a crappy software update? I'm completely dead serious. I'll talk to the lawyer. Ios 6 shot my iphone 4 to hell and if I could go back down to ios 5.1.1 I would. I have all my shsh blobs for 5.1.1 saved on cydia's server but itunes will not let me downgrade.

Not sure where you get that from. I myself, my office (which has a good couple of dozen devices), fair bit of my friends have had no issue more difficult to solve than just doing a reset of the settings.
Not trying to be that guy but wouldn't that mean it's still buggy if you have to reset settings to get it to work correctly?

Will stick with iOS 6 on my iPad till it breaks and then no more iPads for me.I can't stand iOS 7/8 on my iPad just boring and flat with blinding white and Hello kitty icons:)

Lol how rediculous a sentiment. I can't believe people are still saying this. After jumping to iOS 7 the new icons took all of a week to get used to, and now iOS 6 looks ancient.

If they really "offend" you so much then Jailbreak and theme it.

I ended up getting a theme because I could not get used to the new icons. "New" and "good" are totally separate things.

I'm wondering how these stats are actually done...

Weather they only look at what percentage of iOS that's been downloaded, or installed.

Since you can download iOS in itunes, then disconnect the cable, while it downloads, without installing at that time......(I do this heaps of times, since i don't always want to install at the same time, but i do want the download for later) or even at all (change of mind etc), vs installing OTA directly, i wonder how true these stats come close.

I hate iOS8 .. it is beyond me how everybody is still in love with Ive after seeing this ****** release. Maybe he should focus on the watch and bring in somebody else to fix the mess that is iOS these days.

The new design is ok for the most part but there are many place where it is unintuitive at best all the way to counter-intuitive. I am not even gonna get started on all the bugs and problems ..

ARGH ...

It's based on the version on the device when it visits the App Store.

Most people got with or past the design change by now as it has been around for well over a year.

Nor does it say how many are happy with IOS and wouldn't want to go back; like myself.

sadly the inability to downgrade and new devices shipping with 8 , does skew the results.

I'd love to put my iPad back to 7.

If your read an article featuring either Samsung or Microsoft, you will soon realise this may in fact be a religious cult site, where your balanced opinions will be viewed as heresy ;)

I bet that if you took a poll, a lot of users here would not even realise it's a rumors site lol....

Great update, fast install and cruising at warp speed!!

Where you come from live must be a lot slower..... ;)

Thank you Apple for practically crippling my iPad 2 that has only one major importance in my profession and my recreational use; Navigation display. My iPad 2 since new was always a good device that worked every time I needed it. It's displayed over 1 million miles of routing across America and has served me well off-road navigating through trails with off line maps. After iOS 8, it's officially the most annoying device to use ever and now I'll have to reassign it as a second display for my racing simulator's gauges permanently.

I purchased my iPhone 5 the day they were released to the public in 2012. It's been my phone, my browser, my source of entertainment and my mobile hot spot that has transferred over 1 TB of data since new. Today its just a frustrating to use device that crashes and freezes and requires at least 2 forced restarts a day.

Thank you Apple for worrying about how to boost that lovely pie chart of user upgrades just to boast about it to your Android and Windows friends. You're officially another one of them.

Remember back when Steve was in charge and OS releases had fewer bugs and feature problems because of his exacting standards... and his steadfast refusal to bow to share holders who were not expecting dividends in his day

Remember the Microsoft days of "just release it, we will patch it live"

Well one of those days has gone, the other is alive and well in apple now..

IOS and OSX updates, cripple old hardware to force you to buy new... its a good tactic, if your an evil marketing person

That doesn't mean it is good the way it is now does it?

Besides, the inconsistent and counter intuitive design is one thing. The flat out bugs and problems with iOS 8 are something else. iOS7 had fewer bugs and issue (for me at least).
iOS 8 simply doesn't work well, there are countless occasions where the status bar and the content overlay or there are two bars or the keyboards crash or even Spotlight crashing or the wifi hanging up. I have never seen stuff like that in a release and it seems Apple is not exactly rushing to get things fixed.

All in all it is still a ****** release even with the design flaws left out and they should replace Ive leading the development.

iOS7 was my last straw with installing iOS upgrades immediately. At least, until they really start to get serious about their software team, and spend less time on their 'bling' team with Beats, and Fancy Gold watches. I had so many problems with early versions of iOS7 randomly rebooting on my iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S, iPad 3 and iPad Air.

Demoing it to Android users was great when it would lock up in Safari and reboot (flash Apple logo/reboot).

Seeing the iOS8 miseries have made us stick with 7 here in this house until we buy new Apple devices that come with 8 on it. So far 7 seems to work pretty well, and we haven't been in a rush to use any new features in 8.

I'm sure we'll upgrade soon - but they are starting to really slip quality wise in their software department. The HW seems solid as ever, but SW seems to be a problem. Especially odd considering how few variants of HW they support compared to Google or Microsoft.

good luck with your new android 5 tablet. i mean really, good luck.
As long as it does not have blinding white and does not have a OS that looks like it was designed for a 4 year old girl it will be fine bud

Yep. Still plugging away, with my Original iPad, (5.1.1) every night.

Does safari still work ok with the original iPad ? I wish I had the original youtube app I really liked it

Apple should apply a new strategy for software:

- Apple should limit iOS 8 to A7/A8 processors iDevices
- A6/A6X devices (iPhone 5/5C and iPad 4) should have the option to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 or stay on iOS 8.1.2 (and further iterations)
- A5/A5X devices (iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPod Touch 5) should downgrade to iOS 7.1.2

This would assure that (almost) each iDevice is at their maximum iOS level where they still operate good.

Apple could still keep development for bugfixes and features on their last two iOS versions depending the iDevice types still being sold by Apple.

Yes, it means 2 iOS versions on 3 sizes of iPhone/iPod screens and 2 sizes of iPad screen (maybe 3 if the rumours of the iPad Pro are true), but that isn't really a big fragmentation compared to Android and Android device manufactures. Apple and Apple developers can handle it.

The amount of people moaning in these comments is depressing.

Ah, so every one who bought an iPhone 5C, like me, would be screwed? iOS 8 runs really well one my phone.

If I wanted my phone to stop giving me OS updates the second I bought it, I would have bought a Samsung.

So that's 63% of iOS users with buggy iPhones.

No.

Judging by your posts it seems you wish you still were somewhere back in 2010. You don't know what design is, otherwise you won't be saying such nonsense. But hey, it's MACrumors and you're talking about android and trashing iOS on here. Who is a fool wasting his time after all?

Using that logic my 3GS would be on 4... Its on 6.1.6 and its fine (its the 4 upgrade that slowed it the most, not the two that followed btw).

7 works very well on all 5 devices so why on earth would you not upgrade; and the 8 Interface is basically the same as 7. So why would you stay on 7... To fragment the ecosystem and become an utter mess like Android phones?

8.1.1 works OK on the Ipad 2, the 4S is slightly slugish but still better than most Android phones... That's my truth... Yours may differ according to what you like and your bias.
