I'm surprised that there's very little mention of how iOS 8 has essentially broken bluetooth in the car connectivity. My iPhone4 with iOS7 works flawlessly, but take my iPhone6 with iOS8 into the car, and you'll be lucky if it connects 20% of the time. And even then, that's after dorking around with the settings.

I can confirm that the WiFi problems are real, I have two identical iPad Air's and both were updated on the same day. One seems to be fine and has no issues but the other was rendered almost unusable by the update. I though it must be a conflict with some app but even after a full clean install the problems were still there. I had to revert this one back to 7.1.2, it's fine again now!

These problems are real for some people!

At least for me, it's perfectly fine. Charged my 6 Plus to 100% yesterday evening, then unplugged it. It still had 100% in the morning. Listened to music via Bluetooth headphones on the way to work. Still 100% at this moment.

And I have not noticed any Wifi issues either.

Seems to be one of those issues that affect only a certain percentage of users. I guess we could call it the "Apple Lottery". ;) I was equally lucky with my 4S, which had no problems after upgrading to iOS 8. On the other hand, I remember how iOS 5 practically killed my iPad 1. Cut the performance in half. And iOS 6 killed Facetime on my in-laws' iPad 2. After the upgrade, we have never managed to get it to work again. Sometimes you lose in the Apple Lottery, sometimes you win.

Again – Apple makes both the hardware and the software…

…so why are things so bad? Or rather, isn't the competitors products working really well considering this? I mean I can understand if there are some bugs that slip through, but I feel the issues are a bit big since Apple is behind both hardware and software, no?

A big big thank you!

A big big thank you for all the early adopters and testers out there! Thank you for undergoing all that pain!

I am happily waiting for the 8.1 - thank you.

7 second hang when typing text

If you experience this effect, please turn of iCloud Drive and turn it back on again... really hope it will be resolved with iOS 8.01

Toggle for 3G?

How about the lost button - Enable 3G?

The phone is always on 3G network enabled, meaning if the network is not good in some areas, then there will be voice breaking up on the phone calls, or calls being completely missed, or patchy services on the phone.

The most basic requirement of every phone, a phone service to perform without any hinderances under any circumstances. If the Enable 3G button is not revived in iOS 8, then Apple is just being arrogant and impractical in assuming that the whole world is covered in 3G, in every single foot!

Not everyone,

iPhone 5S, original iPad mini, ipad 3 and iPad air all showing improved battery life, much more responsive. All updated OTA, No issues with download or installation, on launch day.

I imagine a majority of users have experienced the same - not hearing issues from any of my friends with Apple devices, and seeing nothing in the tech media, except an unfortunate few who have taken to the usual forums to air their issues.

Things aren't bad, a few users are affected. Other manufacturers have exactly the same complaints. No amount of beta testing can cover every single situation and combination of factors. When 20million+ people update it's inevitable that some will experience issues. The issues will be tracked down and fixed and in the meantime those affected can quickly restore their devices and wait for the fix. No issue here, it's really not that important. First. World. Problems.

nah they are forcing mobile networks to up their game. If they didn't do this the networks could slouch along with no rush to fix their networks. Though it may not seem like it Apple doing this is a good thing.

and yet they are all on macrumours posting to the iOS 8 bugs thread

maybe apple could employ them as next years beta test team, give them all a working device and let them find the bugs early as they seem to be doing a good job :D

As with any new iOS update, users have been reporting several bugs in the operating system, with some of the more prevalent complaints pointing towards slow Wi-Fi speeds and problems with battery life.

Oh that Apple press, always hard hitting, never apologetic or minimizing. Additionally never out of step.

On the reality side those issues seem to be real in this household. My iPhone 5c felt hotter than normal for the few days I had iOS8 installed.

My new iPhone 6 definitely runs hot. It shut the flash off for two hours after shooting a few pictures outside on a hot day. Only the first 15 minutes was spent outside (95F), the rest was in air conditioned environments.

Wifi is noticeably slower than my MBP with wireless n. My home wifi is a few-months-old current gen 3TB Time Capsule with wireless ac.

No panic here, I'll wait for the firmware/software updates that are likely to follow.

Every year this happens. Apple will probably never ever fix these WiFi and battery issues that plague iOS.

No difference in bluetooth between iOS 7 and iOS 8 for me (had a 5s with 7, updated to 8, fine. Also fine with 6 on iOS 8).

Oddly, my slow wifi problem only seems to happen with my few year old Airport Extreme base station. So as a test I hooked up one of these $20 pocket routers I had and that works fine.

You're welcome. I tried to get Snow Leopard on my new iPhone 6. The Apple Store said "no". Go figure.

Apple always has Wi-Fi problems, they just don't take them seriously. Just look back in time, they are more focused on style than functionally. If it's skinny, that's what matters to them.Bragging rights are crucial to Apple. Say one thing, do another, brag about the user experience but fail to deliver. That's how you know it's genuine Apple :)

Don't forget there have been a lot of changes in the BT/Wifi stack this update (think handoff, SMS relaying etc) so i'm not too surprised there are issues with it. My only surprise is that these issues still exist as they've been there since around beta 3(ish) on iOS 8. I've reported the bugs and seen many other reports on the matter yet it's still an issue.

iPhone 5 seems to be better i should say but my retina iPad mini drops wifi completely every now and again and only a reboot fixes it.

Fingers crossed this is rectified pretty soon.

I was getting faster speeds Friday and Saturday on my 6, but now, very slow. Yet my upload speeds are right where they should be. Though I have had problems with Comcast for months. Have their 105 meg package, and only get close to that on my iMac, which is connected via Ethernet. I am suspecting it is my AirPort Extreme (1st gen "n") that is 7+ years old at this point.

Still on ios7 will wait for the bug fix prior to upgrade. No new features that i can't live without

Strangely, I'm seeing what appears to be much better battery life on my 5S and iPad 3, to the point where I'm wondering just how reliable the percentage actually is with iOS 8. For example, since I took it off charge, my iPad is currently showing 1 hour 42 minutes usage, 1 day 20 hours standby, and still 100% battery. My 5S has been off charge for 5 hours and I've used a few apps a bunch of times, and it still says 99%, which seems unlikely.

Edited to add that I just ran a speed test on my 5S over Wifi and it shows 19ms ping, 37.74 Mbps down and 17.44 Mbps up, which are all about 10% down on previous typical values, but that could easily be accounted for by different traffic levels. Also, Bluetooth connectivity is working fine in my C63.
