Wifi speed fine on my 6plus.

I just ran the OOKLA speed test on my 6 plus using work wifi: 44.39Mbps download, 26.24Mbps download. I'm also getting great battery life, way better than any previous iPhone.

Calender [background services] really drains the battery on my 4S. It was fine on iOS7, I'd get a days use out of it without switching any radios off. iOS8 is killing my iPhone and iPad. I'm sure they'll iron it out on the next update but until then my phone has to live on the charge dock!

Just as an option you could roll back to 7.1.2 till you hear they get 8.x fixed for the 4s…Apple did this last year for a week or two after release of 7.

iPhone 6 here doing 30mb down, 35mb over wifi. Connection is 35/35. Apple networking gear. Did Netflix and Safari most of the day, 47% left.

And which apps were responsible for it?

All I had used was Mail about 10 times, and played a few games of Spider Solitaire. Wi-Fi off as usual when I'm not near it, brightness around 50-60%, background refresh off on most apps except weather (always on) and a few that are only on when using app.

So, actually LESS usage than usual, yet still noticed battery going down much faster.

Edit: After learning just now about the battery usage page I'll see if I can isolate the power hungry apps. Because the app reports the last 24 hours of usage I can't isolate the use from today, as the report is skewed because I spent many hours on FaceTime yesterday.

Don't you love how this allegedly happens every time? Maybe there's battery drain because you're, I don't know, using it more?

I'm sure there's some (because there always is with major releases), but I'm pretty sure it's at least a bit exaggerated.

I never really understood why Apple breaks things while adding on features to call it a new OS. It's not like they are building this from the ground up every year.

Creating Software and Hardware Engineering solutions is hard. Extending existing ones is even harder. :apple:

I'm having problems group texting Android numbers. I can send an individual text to that phone with no problems but when I attempt to include the phone in a group text, they never get it. Same sister had the same phone under iOS 7 and they were included in group messages with no problem. It's as if the group factor makes my iPhone not be able to distinquish between iPhone and Android, so it sends everything as if it's an iPhone...Is that a problem with the Continuity feature or is it a bug? Anyone else having the same problems or have any luck fixing the problem

anyone know how to disable the calendar background services?

I haven't had any problems with Wifi or Battery drain on my iPhone 5s. The wifi issue (since they said it can be resolved with turning off privacy settings) sounds like its linked to the Wifi MAC Address Randomization feature. In fact, I can almost guarantee thats what it is. Also, the Battery drain is due to a glitch in the Apple Store app, it tracks location constantly. Turn it off, and I'll bet your battery will be saved.

Thanks, iNosey! I'll bet that's why "Renew Lease" worked for me.

So I just got the Wi-Fi bug. Reboot fixed the issue. this is down right stupid for a major company

Battery drain from background processes

Under iOS7, my 5s would normally run an entire work day and drop from 100% to 50-70%. When I first updated the phone to iOS8, I found it was dropping from 100% battery to about 60% battery in just 2-3 hours, and in the red by lunch. After a little playing I found two issues that were draining my battery:

1) Quite a few apps were using location services a lot cause a big drain. I turned off those apps' access to location services in settings. I may need a couple at times but I can enable them then disable them when done.
2) A couple apps appear to be using a lot of background battery that they didn't used to, so I now use them then kill them.

My guess is the OS made one or more changes that the apps haven't been optimized for and either an update to the OS will be forthcoming to make it behave more like iOS7 used to in these areas, or the apps will soon be updated to make them behave properly.

It seems to me that if you must be among the very first to have the very first of the very latest, you are essentially signing up to experience the very first problems that typically come with being the very first to have the very first of the very latest. No?

Yeh, that was along the lines of what I was thinking, that is to say that the reason that iOS updates are available for free is that we become the Beta testers. So rather than Apple have to pay money to their employees to fully test a product, we get to test it and as a bonus or payment for doing so we get the product for free.

That's what I said. Its business as usual. Changes to the way the OS does things, have broken, changed how many apps or services work, use the netowkr or location services. This happens every fracking time yet there's so much whining in the week after release!! So much!

WiFi problems, the ghost of upgrades past!

I have had so many issues with WiFi on upgrades over the years, I just say "NO" to the .0 version any more. When they come out with .1, that is when I will upgrade.

Been through this circus too many times in the past. Don't want to see the clowns anymore!!!!

I'll just add my $.02 that my battery BLOWS on my 5s now.

It barely lasts half a day now and I've shut down every nice little convenience ie: background app refresh and I've turned the brightness all the way down. (Which really sucks btw)

THE 2 problems with IOS8:

1. Battery life
2. Accidental automatically sent selfies (by holding down on the camera icon in messages. How the hell did this slip by beta testing?!?!? wtf
