iPad Pro 9.7" 128GB Slate Grey Wifi+Cellular REPLACED

My iPad Pro which was bricked with error code 56 has been replaced by Apple retail today. I don't know what version of iOS is on it yet, but rest assured I won't try this update again.

I'm curious to know if people with the iPad Pro 9.7" 128gb wifi+cellular models saw it get bricked when upgrading with iTunes...anyone have that happen? Mine was bricked using the OTA update.

They were able to re-create the error code 56 in the store.

How did you do the update? Other the Air (OTA) or via iTunes?

My iPad Pro 9.7 128 GB Wifi & Cellular updated flawlessly -- no problems whatsoever. Yes, I updated it by plugging the device into the computer and iTunes. Ditto for my iPad 12.9 and also my iPhone. All three devices were just fine. I would guess that this problem may have to do with trying to update OTA?

Ok I'm still going to wait. I don't want to have to go through all this crap again. I am kind of hoping that an iTunes update would work, but honestly scared to try it at this point. If Apple confesses and says something about the next xxxx release fixes it then I'll try to do so.

There have always been issues, some serious, even under Steve Jobs. But beginning several years ago I had the growing feeling that Apple had chosen to forego comprehensive quality control, instead using their customers as guinea pigs.

Absolutely no reason now to change that assessment.

There was at least one on this site and a few others I saw at another that had this issue while upgrading via iTunes. Cable and all.

You are such a daredevil ;-)

12.9 or 9.7 ?
9.7" iPad Pro, white, 128 gb model with 4g. Still working fine, last I checked.

Issues seem quite random, with no clear point of failure (like the problem being restricted to one specific model). A faulty batch perhaps? I got mine on launch day.

Actually to be fair Microsoft's Office updates have been quite good lately! :p

For the 2016 OSX edition, have there been service packs or something for them? I used it when it was first released and Word and PPT crashed all the time.

I'm probably just frustrated, and it's probably not fair for me to take it out on you - but your comment... OK, I'll hold my tongue, but just imagine bile frothing all over my bricked iPad Pro - not even 3 months old!

Bile!
Im sorry

Downloading an update OTA is updating it wrong?
Sarcasm because Apple always blames users until the glitch hits mainstream media. After working for them for years, they always blame users for the "glitch" and claim user error until forced to act when it hits the news outlets.

I couldn't stand it, so I decided I'd try doing an iTunes update. But every time I got to the download point, I got an error message saying my connection had been interrupted. So I'm back to waiting.

Wife just got this on her iPad. Unsolicited.
Interesting.....

No. Mini 4 LTE. Still, it was something that I haven't seen.

This is a new behavior for iOS 9.xx. It's annoying and I don't know how to turn the damn thing off yet either. There has to be a button for that somewhere right? Anyhow I'm using iTunes to upgrade iOS 9.3 to iOS 9.3.1. I must be nuts, but what the hell. It worked before as an OTA upgrade, but the only one of those now us 9.3.2 and I don't want another coaster...if it bricks again I'll just get another iPad Pro. :p

Ok I survived the 9.3.1 upgrade. :p

It'll be interesting to see if any iPad Pros offer to upgrade to iOS Bricky before this is addressed. I don't know if the update mechanism can pick and choose which hardware they force the upgrade out to, versus waiting for users to actively seek to download it.

Honestly I am not bothered by his. I have experienced worse from Apple's competition. At least they go and try to fix the problems unlike once again their competition. in this case I have upgraded all my apple devices to 9.3.2 and I haven't a glitch yet. It is either more often Apple is having issues or it's because the amount of Apple devices people own that the problem is magnified, but once again I am not phased by the glitches after having to deal with them often before switching to ios.

Luckily I updated mine via my MBP and avoided this problem. I feel bad for you guys and girls with bricked iPads ☹️

It's not crucial to update through iTunes to not be affected by this error. Also iTunes version is irrelevant.

...error 56 on my ipad pro 9'7 after 9.3.2 update...this is gonna be rather wide spead me thinks unless the holt download or have a fix soon in 9.3.3......though error 56 is a hardware fault...
