You're completely missing the point.

2.5 inches. It's the first time we've heard anything close to this large. So here's an image of a 2.5-inch "slightly rectangular" screen showing an Apple-like interface on a wrist.

And here's an idea of what Apple could do with an iOS-like interface if it had 2.5 inches to work with.

That's it.

I'm not really sure why people are getting so upset by it. I think it is pretty obvious y'all are not trying to say "this is what the device will look like." More like pointing out what someone thinks could be done with a device this "large." No where does it say this guy is trying to say "here is the actual device."

how is a circular display natural for this? Some of the Moto 360 renders we saw had a black bar at the bottom of the screen because the UI didn't fit the entire display. Circular displays are rooted in a traditional watch which basically tells time. My guess is this mythical iWatch will do a heck of a lot more than tell time. Having a circular display is quite limiting IMO.

Again, I can't help but feel you're being too considerate of the current market. Circular displays fail at the moment (think Moto 360) because the UI has not been specifically tailored for a circular display (thank Android).

Circular wearables feel and look far more natural than square. Think watches, buttons, earings, rings, necklaces, glasses, shoes etc etc (but of course there are examples which go against this notion).

The Galaxy Gear Fit is one of the nicest looking smartwatches available at the moment (on par with the Moto 360 when it's turned off) but again, this isn't saying a lot as these devices are half-assed and rushed to market resulting in defects and unrefined usability. Apple will do it right, and mark my words: It won't be square.

It would be good if one of the moderators here would for once take a stand and explain what is going on here. The level of reporting is going down and from the reactions shown here it is quite a common and broad view that this is the case.

At least go and discuss it with the editors because this is getting ridiculous.

Yes, but you see, every reading and post (including mine) is what they're after. So ridiculous stories don't matter one bit to them as long as they get clicks.

So if anyone is sick of seeing these rumours or feel that MR has jumped the shark, show your displeasure by not visiting this site. Plenty of other rumour sites.

Can't believe people don't see this for the joke that it is. I think it's funny after all the mockups we have seen recently.

If this is a serious article, then it is plain sad.....

I think they're upset that it looks ridiculous. The interface pics are fine, but why would any respectable site include the pic of the tape watch? It just looks tacky, especially on the front page.

Behind the scenes of the mockup...

I disagree. it shows what the "interface" could like at a rumored size on an actual wrist. To give a general idea of the actual size.

And from actually reading the comments many people actually believe they are trying to say someone made this as what maybe the actual device could be.

If 95% of your readers "miss the point" it must be a real, quality article.

Lol, first and only pic on the internet that has a 2.5 inch "screen" on a wrist with an Apple themed UI, and there's 4 pages of people either trying to get to the holy grail of avatar, or just giving a casual Thursday beat-up.

The biggest appeal about this "smart" device is going to be its implementation of security. There is no way I'll store anything personal on it without security

To do: Have NFC so we don't waste space in my phone
To do: Nail user authentication / security
To do: Don't be called iWatch
To do: Don't be a personal assistant on my wrist. Make a new use of that space, ala option one.

The iPhone didn't save seconds when it came out, nor did the iPad, furthermore, nor did the iPod. These devices enabled a new way to access and do all the things we couldn't do portably or quickly before. There's no way I'm scrolling through contacts on my ****ing wrist when they're right there on a nice 4, 4.7" or 5.5" screen right there in my pocket.

This is what people should be criticising about the mock-up and the coverage of the iWatch - its focus on being another PDA or electronic diary of the 90's ...we have one, it's our phone and we only want it to be bigger.

iWallet has a better wring to it than iWear, iWatch or Jobs forbid, iWrist. Also, "when" did "we" get into the double-you's? iPod, iPhone, iPad...iBet it's going to be a P-boy.

Wow.

Whatever credibility Macrumors had just eroded significantly. This used to be a REALLY interesting site with some pretty significant information. Now ... yeah ... trolling for sure. Kinda sucks honestly. Maybe I'll migrate over to MacNN or something. Too bad, too.

I think you're being too considerate of the traditional market. I don't think whatever device Apple is working on will be a watch, hence I don't think it has to be circular. If I want a watch I'll spend the money to get a nice, traditional, premium watch.

I am seeing that, but I am also seeing other reasons for all the guffaws. Does anyone really, seriously think that Apple is going to clip off a part of the iOS UI and stick it on a wristband? If that was the sum total of Apple's ambitions for this product, then they could have released it years ago. Don't we expect a whole lot more from Apple? I'm sure most of us do. So why doesn't MR?

If the only purpose of the article was showing how a 2.5 inch display would look on a wrist, then a piece of black paper would have sufficed and all that other pure speculation about the UI could have been skipped.

It doesn't seem like most of you guys are reading, just looking & hating. That photo is to just show size. If you look at ios photos below, this all makes sense, and that's why MacRumors is posting it. More of an iWristband. I wouldn't mind the size if we were able to Safari. We want big phones now, right?

That's the first thing I though. Does MacRumors or the people mocking this stuff up really believe the mythical iWatch is just going to be the iPhone UI on a 2.5 inch display? Really?
