If the UI is pushed up, wouldn't the Back button have been moved off the screen so you still couldn't access it?

True. Perhaps shrinking of both the top and bottom to create a bit of space wouldn't hurt.

I disagree with the OP though on one thing: this way is much better than the current one in 4.3.3 where the popup slaps you in the face and when you click OK there's no more notification. You either see it now, or don't be notified later.. and that's terrible

I think an simple "X" for quickly dismissing a notifications would be great.

What, it currently forces you to open the newly received notice before your can dismiss it?

I was really hoping they'd use the same UI as for active calls...the status bar gets doubled in width, and the UI gets slightly shifted (on the homescreen at least, I don't remember about in apps, as I haven't seen it in a while)...it shifts just enough to not be annoying

I tried it with Mail, Facebook, and Messages. All of those are shifted down but don't lose any buttons. It seems that whatever they do with the "touch to return to call" (or TTRTC) is the way to go.

While I can't say that Apple will fix this or what their intention is. It is interesting at the least that the notification bar is the same size as the double bar when you are in the call. The double bar pushes the current app down making room for the double bar to continue to be present at all times.

But remember, the double bar currently does not show up on fullscreen apps. I don't see any way around fullscreen apps. As developers would have to design their applications around being compressed.

Yes! This is what I want to see. Kinda like MobileNotifier.

Even easier yet, once the notification has rolled completely over. You could just tap once anywhere on the screen but where the notification is, and it would go away.

No that's not a good idea. It will be too easy to miss notifications then. I think having an X button on the top right corner as a "dismiss" would be nice. But i would like to see the same notification in the notification system. Otherwise, it'll be just like the old iOS again.

Ah, I see what you mean. Thank you for the clarification.

Although, if the UI is now "pushed down", we might lose UI elements at the bottom we might want to access. Hmm, guess this is tricky with no easy answers.

not necessarily, the UI can be 'squeezed' just like mobilenotifier does it.

OP, i agree, this was infact one of the first things i noticed and wanted to say something about.

I'm sure they looked at doing it. The UI bouncing up and down as notifications came in could have been really annoying for internal testers. People need to "trust" the button placement on touchscreens so moving it constantly would screw that up. And you'd also have people complaining that just when they are about to hit Back a notification comes in and the button moves.

I think the current implementation is the lesser of two evils.

this makes no sense at all.

By the way, remember that Beta is just that-- a Beta. Many things are subject to change so don't be surprised if what they showed at WWDC turns out to be very different (for the better, hopefully). I for one support the idea of adding a small 'X' so as to close those dropdown notifications that block part of the screen you are using.

that's most likely because the UI probably has a 'header' and a 'footer' (excuse my layman's terms) but the space in between is flexible in size.
it definitely won't work on games with fixed sizes like full screen games.

the problem is:

if you make the UI elements shift down a bit when the notification comes in, it might be irritating.
if you'd always keep them at the point where they would be with the double title bar (the 'touch to return to the call' thing), you wouldn't be covering them, but essentially reducing the size of the Content pane of the app.

so, i'd gladly live with the back button being covered for 5 seconds over the GUI elements or the entire app moving around when a notification comes in.
the whole point was to be visually less intrusive.

Yeah, my only problem is when I'm in a situation like yesterday, where I got 4 emails in a row and had to sit there staring at it for 20 seconds waiting to press back. Either way it's annoying, at least if it shifted down I could continue working and get to the emails later.

Whilst I agree they need that dismiss 'x' button on the notification, I just carry on using my phone as normal when a notification is present. You can just press the bottom half of the button - you just need to be careful until they add that 'x' (or something like it).

we totally still need to be able to quickly dismiss a notification, yes.

i just thought i had to point out the 'flaw' of having the top notifications push certain UI elements down

True, maybe I just have fat fingers. Sometimes I'm able to hit the bottom of the button, sometimes I accidently hit the notification and it launches that app. Either way it shouldn't take finesse to touch the button.
