Just called Schaumburg Apple store.. they mentioned they had a shipment come in today morning, but all are sold out.. as they have a big line outside their store, and are asking people not to form any more queues. They mentioned they are selling the pads as they come, and they have no idea how much more deliveries they expect in the coming days.

Ditto. I was by the glass staircase! Waited since 9:30AM. Started at mBurger
Oh well. There were a group of 8 resellers that budged in line and didnt speak english. It made my day that they couldnt get ANY...you shouldve seen their reactions. They all had about 2000 dollars in 100 dollar bills. They had a couple of friends ahead that bought some up though.
those were the "friends" that were right in front of me. Took the last stock. I must have been right in front of you. The dude with the nasty orange jacket was fairly close behind me. It was disappointing....my fingers are still numb as I type from being outside.
Yup! I was pretty close to you. You plan on lining up tomorrow? To think if I left my house 30 minutes earlier, I would be holding an iPad2 right now!
that's what we kept saying to ourselves as we left. I was planning on getting there at 8am but hesitated last night when I heard they were not opening early. Should have gone with my gut.
I'm debating on lining up tomorrow morning. I feel like today was the big shipment....I'm hoping that everyday would be like this but all signs pointed to today being the biggest stock.
I'll keep perusing to see what intel I can find. I'll report back.

they all say that when they're out. Skokie store told me that Saturday morning, came back Saturday afternoon and they had gotten 10 and sold them in less than 5 minutes soon after I left. It's all bullsh!! and they have no idea what's going on, other than everyone taking their frustration with Apple's lack of preparedness out on the indvidual employee
Awesome. The lady mentioned "you should try again tomorrow morning". I am thinking about just waiting it out...I feel like its a crazy cat and mouse game.
Yup, definitely hard to get a straight answer. You pretty much have to keep showing up, and if your lucky you will get one.
I went to Old Orchard this morning when they opened, they had none. I called Old Orchard and Northbrook just now. Old Orchard told me to try again tomorrow, Northbrook said to keep checking back. It seems like nobody has any clue when they are getting shipments.
so for anyone who was at the Mich. Ave store this morning, how many do you think they sold ... give or take?
My estimate - based on the numerous folks that bought TWO....greedy b-tards......in the 100's.
When I was counting. From mBurger, I believe i was number 100ish in line.. and there were about another 15-20 in front of me that were turned away.
I would say anywhere from 150-200, so about 10 of each model?
What time did you show up? I was debating on going and probably could have made it around 830, not sure if that was too late or not.
I showed up at 9:30. If you showed up at 8:30, you MOST LIKELY wouldve gotten an iPad2!
Perhaps we need some more team work involved.. haha
8:30 would have been a lock, you would have got one. I showed up around 9:15 and was 5 people from getting one.
Shortly after I entered the store (about 15-20 people in front of me) they announced that all 3G options were sold out and the 16gb wifi was sold out. By the time i was approaching the front, only 64gb wifi were left and the only white 64gb wifi....then nothing.
I have only myself to blame for not going earlier....
I just checked again with Old Orchard. They said that if they had stock,they'd be opening at 9:00 tomorrow.

Sorry to hear all the trouble everyone is having problems gettin one, but if you have ever worked retail in your life, then you understand that the non-management staff at stores really usually doesn't know what is getting shipped to them exactly and more so how many specifically. The best they can do is give u a reasonable guess, which is what they've been doin by all accounts. Managers usually have a better idea of what the store is getting, because they usually have access to realtime inventory/warehouse stock. Good luck to everyone =) I'm so glad i was able to get mine day 1 witout hassle hehe.
Sorry for the delayed response, I just saw your post. I was #12 in line, got there at 8:10. For folks who missed out today in the future if you get there before 8:30 I think you'd be in luck, after that, questionable. All of the folks in front of me and a few behind me were only buying 1 iPad each, unlike the reseller scum down the line. My favorite part of the morning was watching security shoo people away who tried to bum rush the door when it opened. Knuckleheads.
Its all good. As soon as I saw your post on macrumors, i hurried up, got my things for work and rushed out of the house, but could only get there at 9:30AM.
I think I am done with this wild goose chase. I gave in and ordered on B&H. 8 dollar 2 day shipping, plus no tax, so saved about 40-50 dollars right there. The sales guy mentioned that they will try to fulfill my order this week, but next week for sure. I figure if I continue on this path, itll be about the same results, but without the lining up part in the fridgid cold.
It is suppose to warm up the next couple of days!

Yep. Was just there today at 10am, none. I asked if they had any idea when they may be getting more, they said they honestly had no idea. They suggested ordering online...estimated ship date April 1st.
