I just can't wait for the "Apple is hosting an event on [insert date here]" rumours. Although speculating is fun, it would be nice to have some solid facts about the release date.

I'm thoroughly happy with the resolution of my ipad. I don't see why this is a big deal. There are other things that can be added, such as a camera that I'd care about more.

wooow, what a news.
Is there anyone on earth who think, they are producing a new ipad that is thicker, much heavier, with a slower processor and with less powerful graphics proecessor?

It's just bumping site traffic :)

Why do you guys think a 9.7" device NEEDS a 2048x1536 display? That's CRAZY it's only $500 at the starting point

Not surprised, it would be pretty expensive to get a 10" screen retina display, the resolution would be crazy high, especially considering Apple uses an IPS display.. I knew it wasn't possible in the beginning :p

It would be nice to see something like 1280x720 (720P).. because honestly for browsing website 1024x768 isn't the best choice, at least not in this day and age, there are a lot of websites that break the 1000 pixel width, which means a lot of the websites would not be able to be viewed correctly on an iPad.. I think 1200px width is the minimum..

Okay I'll give you "Clarity", but now be truthful.

You prefer reading books on your iPhone 4 over the iPad?

You prefer surfing the net on your iPhone 4 over the iPad?

You prefer viewing videos on your iPhone 4 over the iPad?

A simple yes or no will suffice.

Many people would simply say they have their MacBook for that.

Having said that - I do know where you are coming from - that 'Magic' Apple prat on about is infact just that which you have pointed out above.

Those basic tasks are so easy to do on the iPad.

Lately the Wall Street Journal has been correct (as far as I know).. so I feel this is correct. And it seems to match up with what all the experts on how soon it is to see a "retina" display this soon with the iPad. Can't wait, so please Apple.. introduce it already! Credit Card is ready

Because its painful going from my iPhone 4's beautiful display to my iPad's. It's like going from a high quality print to a screen. All I see are pixels. I never had this problem before the iPhone 4, but now I'm spoiled. That is all.

Sounds like a controlled leak to me. Dampen unrealistic expectations, whilst raising iPad awareness into the mainstream media once again.

Also agree to this.

I do think we'll see the debut of "pick your carrier" for the 3G models. Same SKU, but you pick either AT&T or Verizon.

Does anyone else feel that this might be a fake controlled leak? Notice how absolutely no new news was presented here. My theory:
Apple will announce the iPad mentioned in this article, and then BAM One More Thing. The presenter would mention how the press said they couldn't do it, and then show off the retina display.
For example:
The Wallstreet Journal correctly reported that the iPad 1 would be introduced in January and would ship around March, but (possibly like above for the flare in Steve's Keynote) missed the most exciting point, the price, by a wide margin.

EDIT: Source for that.

Thinner...lighter...dont drop it.

So the better processor opens up my apps a split second faster.

More memory...OK..not bad

Same display...nothing about it being better for outside use.

Front camera...no biggie.

No reason to upgrade.

I thought about this new iPad 2 for a few weeks now and have come to the following conclusion:

Will buy iPad if and only if:

1) faster processor: if it can render web pages at least the same speed as my desktop

2) more memory for multitasking and faster web rendering experience

3) improved audio performance. Speaker sounds real loud and stereo stage presence

If they can give me all three I'm gonna be in line for ipad2. As for the retina screen I am spoiled by the iPhone 4 but again the current one isn't bad ton the point it's terrible. It's just that there are better out there so obviously I don't want to pay top dollar for something that isn't improved.

Retina display isn't a deal breaker for me at this point. I must have faster web rendering experience, however. The current pad is too slow or just not fast enough to replace my desktop. I'm not speaking about flash compatible either I just want fast as my desktop browsing!!!

I think imma hold for the retina, facetime compliant (with a decent mp camera) till I buy another. I have a 64g now and It serves its purpose.

I also want a better resolution for reading. But seriously, 2048x1536? My expensive-ass dell ultrasharp IPS doesnt even have a resolution that high. Apple doesn't specialize in miracle making. I hope we do get at least a small rez bump with a solution for using older apps included (some sort of window maybe?). Fingers crossed.

Did anyone release a 300+ PPI display commercially before Apple released iPhone 4?

Comparing it with a desktop display doesn't matter because there's still the issue of a lack of good resolution independence, which is a key missing piece that prevents super high density displays from being useful. Apple can use the same kind of resolution change as they did with iPhone 4 very easily.

UltraSharp is just a brand name for Dell's line of IPS desktop displays, unfortunately, it's not a designation of pixel density.

I don't think those answers matter. The iPad would probably be preferred just for screen size alone. But still, the pixel density doesn't just pale in comparison, you're talking about 3x difference in linear pixel density.

I agree with others here that the lack of a higher resolution display (doesn't have to be four times the number of pixels, but at least some) is a deal breaker. My iPhone 4 holds nearly the same amount of information on its display as the iPad. Why could I haul around the latter?

Yes, I do. Which is why I have no problem waiting. But until then, I'll pass.

No better resolution. No thanks. I'll save my money for iPad 3. Looking at my iPhone 4 screen and then the current iPad, there's a huge difference in clarity.

Same. For this reason (mainly), I won't be buying the iPad 2. I'm sorry, but the Retina Display has ruined me. ;)

To bad they may not add T-Mobile or Sprint to the carriers. Would prefer T-Mobiles better prices and customer service.

All units will have a Gobi inside which brings 3G on both GSM and CDMA...cites someone close the matter. This makes production much less complicated and Apple can push units wherever needed without much regard to the guts.
