Can someone please explain me, why on every web site if you want to order/preorder ipad you have to do it via phone and can't place online preorder?

It has something to do with competitive business advantage and Apple's control over how 3rd party resellers can conduct business with their products, yet they hold no pull over the HK scalpers? *headscratch*

B&H does this with all low supply/high demand items, have seen them do this frequently with new high-end cameras. By making it phone order only with full payment due at order time, it cuts down on getting orders from people that are either not serious or are 'order spamming' all of the sites with only the intention of keeping the first one they get. This way, even if you do cancel your order with them they at least get the interest on your money for the time they had it for their hassle.

OK, I found out why:

- because authorized apple dealers are not allowed to sell them online

I'll keep you updated on mine. I ordered a 16 GB/Black/WiFi from B&H on Wednesday (3/16). It's still on back-order, but from what I've heard they should be getting some shipments this week. I'm hoping to have mine by March 28th.

I ordered mine on 3/14 @ 9:00 a.m. and it's also backordered... :mad: Just talked on the phone with a representative that said they're expecting a shipment from Apple this week (It's already on its way).

I need my Ipad before April 8th... Let's hope I get it by then...

Now, about J&R... Any indication they will have 32 GB Black Wi-Fi only before B&H? If that's the case, I might order one there!

Ordered 3/13 at 1:30 Eastern, still backordered. Got the 3 day shipping ($1.35 extra) if that matters.

Ah cool thanks for the info... I got the free shipping because the 3 day was like $4-5 more and the fastest was like $15.

Also, just ordered the 32GB Wifi Black from J&R. It was quick and painless although I haven't received a confirmation email as of yet. I get paranoid that they didn't get info right like email, etc.

He said they expect to get them on 3/30 (3-4 business days shipping).
He also told me they'll be getting ~191 in and I'm 135 on the pre-order list.
 
I ordered a 32GB wifi black from B&H as soon as they opened on Sun. morning (10AM) before the OP started this topic.
At the time of my order, the salesperson told me that the iPad will ship on Mon or Tue... now, 4 days later, my order still says 'Backordered'... any yes, they did charge my credit card right away.
I called B&H customer service who said that he doesn’t know why some users on this forum got their iPads already even though their orders were placed after mine...
He also couldn’t give me any info as to when more iPads will be available and stated that the Salesperson shouldn’t have promised me the date of shipment that he did.

Does anyone know if their warehouse is the same place as their store? I'm in the Philly area, so usually from NY or NJ to Phila. takes only a day or two to arrive, even with standard UPS.

If you mean B&H, our warehouses are in Manhattan under our store and in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.The latter is our main warehouse. BTW, B&H does not add sales tax to any order shipped to a location outside NY state.

Just a brief on BH Photo since many "non-photographers" don't know who they are:
BH Photo is best know for their great pricing on photography and video equipment. Almost every person who frequent photography websites know about BH Photo and they are 100% responsible for many domestic arguments over how much $$$$ is being spent on camera and lenses. Many of my photog friends speak about visiting the acutal BH Photo store in New York and compare it to visiting a holy site

Rude people on the phone in NYC? Really? LOL. I've gotten all kinds when ordering from them over the years. I just chalk it up to stereotypical NYC behavior. But they've always come through on my orders and their return policy is 15 days from date of receipt for those who didn't know.

I appreciate your post but you are mistaken. We only restrict items in this particular when we're required to do so by the manufacturer or US distributor as part of our authorized retailer agreement.
 
Welcome to the thread Henry! Just one question, couldn't your company tell us what are place was in line for the model we order? That would be a great if you would offer that info.

Still waiting on a 64GB White Wifi that I ordered last Monday morning. Crossing my fingers that it comes this week, but who knows...
 
Ordered my White Verizon 64gb wifi+3g on Friday morning via 2-day shipping. I was expecting it to come in Tuesday..but its here!!!!!

Unfortunatly, I'm at work...so all I could do was turn it on briefly. Then it asked to plug into itunes, which I can't do until I get home. :(

It's so pretttyyyyy! LOL.

I do not wish to be or to seem unhelpful but PLEASE do not email me asking about where you are in the queue or when or how many iPads we'll get in our next delivery. usually I do not know. Customer service may be able to assist individual inquiries, but they also do not always know when or how many.
