iPad 2 Screen Parts Circulating

The resolution issue is the main thing that will make me consider getting iPad 2. If resolution stays the same, there's basically no way I'd get one (already have iPad 1).

I have a feeling a lot of others might feel the same way (well...at least amongst those I've talked to). :)

I zoomed in 1000x on my macbook into the jpeg in the article to inspect the pixel count and it looks like 1024x768 resolution on the iPad2!

I was pleased when an earlier rumour suggested iPad 2 was going to have an anti-glare screen. However, going by the above photo (if genuine), that rumour may be unfounded. No anti-reflective screen equals no buy here.

I have ipad 1....

if the only upgrade in ipad 2 was cameras.... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was thinner and lighter form factor..... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was a dual-core cpu..... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was new gpu.... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was a 4x resolution.... I would upgrade and pay $999 for a 16gb wifi model

but thats just me ;)

What's interesting to me is it seems like there is more screen real estate. Maybe not active as a screen, but maybe active for touch controls?

Looking forward to hearing the real specs.

Well, not just you. Except for that last part, I agree. (But, then again, I have about $600 worth of gift waiting for me to point at a product to say "That's what I want!", which makes it easy for me to choose to upgrade from my iPad 1...)

Question though... If the screen is suppose to be anti glare then why is it that in the 9to5 mac pictures it seems more shiny then the first ipads screen!?

Looks like the flash is located more to the right on the actual camera to me.

If the close-up of the sticker belongs to the new display, then it's still a XGA Display, so no upgrade as far as I can tell. The "Code" LP097X02 means that it is a LCD Panel by LG with a size of 9,7 inches and XGA resolution.

Yup, you are right.

This is just a glossy LED 9,7" 1024 x 768 pixels panel.

Damn it! your right!

oh really? Apple can't have ips and AMOLED? Bummer

Not the same technology... AMOLED is short for Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. So it's basically an array of LEDs.

IPS means In-Plane Switching, and refers to the configuration of the liquid crystals in the display. We're talking OLED vs LCD here, there's nothing in common.

1024 x 768 pixels it is folks...
doesn't matter, I waited for the iPad until now, not going to let this change my mind!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this

The frame is darker. It appears to possibly be Liquidmetal Technology. It if is, that would explain why it is thinner and lighter. It also matches the color of the new links on Apple.com.

It also explains why the screen is much more expensive than normal.

Liquidmetal is more expensive but it's twice as strong as titanium and lighter than aluminum. This is going to be a bad to the bones machine. Also, it won't get fingerprints.. It's going to be sweet..

If it's Liquidmetal, I'd recommend getting some LQMT stock soon..

Craziness

I seriously am amazed that people are finding specs and details from that photo.

I really wish the display had a higher resolution. However, I did get gift cards for an iPad 2 for the Holidays, and I held off on iPad 1.

So, whatever is getting released is what I'm getting!

In the long run, would Apple want the iPad to have annual updates like the iPhone, or would they be better off having slightly more silent bumps, as in the iMac cycle, where they could upgrade more gradually?

Do they view this as an annual "shock" product, or, a computer that will eventually get incremental updates?

Just a basic question.
