a while being a few weeks at most, intel already has rectified it and started producing the "working" chips.

Jeez you people have no idea what is really going on with the Intel stuff.

It's not the chips that were faulty, it was the chipsets that were faulty. Actually a single part in particular, the SATA II controller included with the chipset. The SATA III controller remains unaffected and will never have issues.

Considering that Apple generally only uses one SATA controller for their laptops (even the iMacs only have two, maybe three SATA devices in them) there is no way that this chipset issue will impact Apple. The only thing this might impact is the next Mac Pro, but that isn't true because the Xeon stuff isn't even out yet and won't be a part of this either.

The Macrumors article posted the other day about it was really vague and people didn't know what it was about. The fact is that Apple is not delayed at all by this issue, and intel has not stopped making Sandy Bridge chips, but they have recalled all motherboards that use any of the chipsets with the problematic SATA II controller. The chipset that Apple uses is not even going to be a part of this unless Apple chooses one with a SATA II controller for some reason.

You make one assumption that could be impacting your perspective. That is the idea that the new Macs will need only two SATA ports. Apple could easily build these new machines in a way that requires multiple SATA controllers.

The simplest avenue is to use the two SATA3 ports for SSD storage and one of the other ports for CD/Optical connection. heck they could also add an external SATA port too.

Please don't jump on me I said COULD not would when referencing an external SATA port. I just think it is a mistake to assume the coming machines will be structured like today's machines. As a stock holder I'd be shocked if the new hardware came out with minor updates. Especially in the desktop division which needs to have the entire line up overhauled.

I seriously am amazed that people are finding specs and details from that photo.

I really wish the display had a higher resolution. However, I did get gift cards for an iPad 2 for the Holidays, and I held off on iPad 1.

So, whatever is getting released is what I'm getting!

In the long run, would Apple want the iPad to have annual updates like the iPhone, or would they be better off having slightly more silent bumps, as in the iMac cycle, where they could upgrade more gradually?

Do they view this as an annual "shock" product, or, a computer that will eventually get incremental updates?

Just a basic question.

well exactly what time frame do you'd think they'd have??? .. release a new iPad every three weeks? that wouldn't cause any supply-chain problems would it? These days whenever any new Apple product is close to release it becomes a big deal, though with the iPad and iPhone they are much more eagerly awaited because they are the market leaders.. even if the Droid-boys do their best to convince people otherwise.... some of us though are sadly just as excited by new MBP's, and iMacs..:apple:

I'm sure it's been mentioned already... but the bezel doesn't look any smaller to me. It's black and makes it appear almost nonexistent but if you look closely it appears to be the same, minus the screw tabs.

I'm just dying to hear the real specs.... if the earlier rumors were on target, we should hear about it soon! Maybe this week we'll see the invite for an event next week???? I hope so, I really want to know what's really coming.

Be gentle on the flaming, but i'm sure i read somewhere you can tell the resolution of an LCD screen by shining a laser on it and measuring the reflection?

I know, i'm desperate ;) but, surely there must be SOME way of checking! LOL

I honestly do not think the iPad 2 will impress most people in terms of its display. I'll wait for the iPad 3!

:D. Indeed. Apple throws out specs on a device. Then there 2000+ people in the forums suddenly disgusted that Apple tech is hopelessly outofdate when it hits the market. The product is doomed and Apple will disappear from existence.

I'm not sure if I'll wait for iPad 3. I'll be getting a newer iPhone this summer. My contract is up in June and my current iPhone's frontglass is spidercracked.

I have ipad 1....

if the only upgrade in ipad 2 was cameras.... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was thinner and lighter form factor..... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was a dual-core cpu..... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was new gpu.... I would upgrade

if the only upgrade was a 4x resolution.... I would upgrade and pay $999 for a 16gb wifi model

but thats just me ;)

I have an iPad1 - and I will buy the iPad2 no matter what changes. If there would be no iPad2, I would by another iPad1 - just sick of the constant fight in the house whose turn it is to use it.

I think Apple will want to hold their event possibly on the 15th, because:

1. It's a Tuesday.
2. I would imagine that the event needs to come fairly soon to line up with the rumors.
3. By then, they'll have some solid numbers to report on regarding initial Verizon iPhone sales.

I agree, considering that apple released a new ipad commercial for Valentine's day, I can't see them announcing it before then.

When software and features combine to completely obsolete my 32G iPad 1, then I'll upgrade.
But that's just me.

As I said from the beginning. No way was iPad 2 getting a "retina" screen.

Where are the gullible/wishful thinkers now?

iFixYouri and 9to5Mac have posted photos of what is said to be the new iPad 2 screen. No other details (such as resolution) have been revealed, but the slightly thinner screen agrees with previous analyst reports that claim that the iPad 2's screen will be 30-35% thinner as well as offering an anti-reflective coating for better outdoor usage.

Apple is widely expected to release a new iPad in the first quarter of this year.

So which is it?

Slightly thinner screen or 30-35% thinner?

Keep drinking that M$ juice, buddy.

Keep drinking that M$ juice, buddy.

Just take a look at the threads especially the ones concerning Apple product refreshes. When Apple doesn't wow with the specs, many posters on this site get pissy. Noticed alot people and Bob's brother looking for Retina Display for iPad 2? Barring Steve Jobs working the hand-crank on the miracle machine, I doubt the new screen is Retina. If is I apologize for doubting.

Microscope it please

Why haven't these people used magnification to determine the density of the pixels? It would be quite easy to determine the resolution.

If the screen resolution isn't increased things might be bad for AAPL. I think it will be a massive disappointment. Apple has become some conservative on hardware specs recently( the camera on itouch, memory on iPad, no wireless sync, USB ports on MacBook )
