Are we sure the ATT and Verizon models are not the same? My order lists it as simply 3G without specifying ATT or Verizon. I know Apples website lists them separately but maybe that is for data purposes. The chip is a hybrid GSM/CDMA and I would assume the iPhone 5 is likely to be the same for both Verizon and ATT so why not the iPad 2?

The Verizon model lacks a SIM slot. Also, my order email from Apple says "IPAD WI-FI 3G 64GB BLACK - VERIZON-USA". Apple will say it is because of antenna tuning or optimization and that may be true, but I suspect the carriers requested this so their customers did not view their data plans as commodities that could be swapped interchangeably.

We order a white Wi-fi 32gigs around 2 minutes before 1 AM last night. We have it engraved also and it said to expect the shipment after the 18th-25th. So we hope for the package to come with in that window time, can't wait. :)

yep, the lines now are OK, but wait this afternoon.
At least they will have it spread out many retailers, but I still think it will be a mess.

We shall see. I plan on getting there a few hours early myself.

There's not going to be lines. The iPad is available just about everywhere.
You could go to:

Apple Store
Best Buy
Target
Walmart
Sam's Club
AT&T
Verizon

Not really the stuff of 'lines.' The hardcore will go to the Apple Store just out of habit. But completely not necessary - stand in line if it makes you feel more excited for your purchase, but I'll be willing to bet you can walk into a store this evening and get one.

That's not to say Apple won't sell a lot. But that's also because they're available everywhere.

there are too many iPad 1 s in the clearance section in all the online stores (not only us store)

$100 reduction made the second hand iPad values less by $200

no online preorder ...

two weeks shipping time

I would not want to have to sell a gen 1 iPad now.

Here is my Verizon order:

This is just ridiculous.

The iPad has 18 different configurations.
I wonder how long Apple will keep this up.
This is a logistical nightmare and I think Apple will learn their lesson.
As much as I like the white iPad, you just can't be shipping the hottest tech item of the year with 18 configurations.

Assuming, for the sake of the argument, that BestBuy gets 100 iPads with all model represented equally. That means that it only has 5-6 of each type. This is not good for the consumer.

Of course you can order it online at apple.com, but I think this is really going to hurt the resellers. Having all those units in stock is going to be a tough task for them.

Well.... we'll find out! Going to Sams Club at 4:30 to see if they're going to have any at my store... they are not listed as one, but thought I'd check. From there... maybe Target or Best Buy.

Or you could order one online then and then pop into a store today. If you get one you can always cancel the online order because they only charge you once it's shipped. :)

Mine didn't ship yet and I got charged for my whole order already....

Where did you get this information from ? Steve's botched misquote that was corrected by every media back in january ?

Not botched at all. It was speculated there were poor sales in November of last year. Then there was the story that the return rate on Galaxy tabs were 16%. Samsung tried to say it was only 2% but didn't offer hard evidence. After this, the price dropped significantly; most likely due to poor sales and Samsung having shipped so many that were gathering dust. Then Samsung released the transcript that was in "error" and later back pedaled. Furthermore, in the same disputed quote, it was said the sales were not as great as they would have liked. Finally, Samsung said they were rethinking their second version after ipad2 specs were released. Jobs most likely went with the original quote because we will see in the end that it was honest.

I realize you want to get people riled up and change the topic to whether Jobs purposely misquoted or not. But the truth is that the Galaxy tab is not currently a rival to the ipad. In fact if you look for it in the best seller lists of Amazon it is listed in the cell phone lists rather than tablets. I speculate this is because if you want to take advantage of those new low prices on Amazon, you need to get a contract with a carrier.

Here's another post of mine on the subject with links:

Now just stop with the rant about whether Jobs purposely misquoted or not. It is just silly.

Regardless of the reason or Apple's excuse, this is 100% lame and B.S.

Sell a product that "releases" on 1 day but doesn't even SHIP for 2-3 weeks.

Interesting how they brand the Verizon one on orders and email but not ATT. I don't know how the carriers could influence Apple into not making them interchangeable. They aren't subsidizing them. If Apple isn't doing it I would guess the engineering hasn't been worked out yet. The huge number of SKUs is very unApple like.

I agree with everything you said but I've listened to the actual audio and she did say "smooth". I think if Steve had quoted Samsung with the "smooth" quote at the iPad 2 event it would have been hilarious. Assuming he even knew about the correction. Bottom line as you've said is if the Samsung tablet is a flop it's a flop.

So, how's the buying experience at Best Buy? Will they have decent stock? They're not releasing any stock numbers for stores.
Also, where do you buy warranty for iPad, if you do. That's the only reason im thinking about Best Buy. Not sure about how good squaretrade is. Thoughts?

Wouldn't be surprised if the Canadian launch got pushed back. It's happened a couple times before.

In line at Apple SoHo NYC. There are about 150 here already, >90% Chinese, ready to buy two to send home to feed the grey market.

And the other 10% are what? Rude, loud mouth, gas-guzzling Americans? Buying two to feed their fat, cushy lifestyles?

Don't you love stereotypes. ;)
