This sounds about right.

Firstly, since when has weather ever affected a products release...
Secondly, not everyone celebrates Christmas....

True steve jobs is Jewish and he does not celebrate Christmas.

The real reason for early release of ipad2 is to keep up with the completion, apple does not want to give up the lead they have in iPad like devices.

Who here hopes that the thinner form factor rumor also implies that the new iPad will be lighter as well?

What is the fascination of apple and thinner? Lighter : yes Thinner : no, the form factor is fine .

Im not a bit surprised that iPad2 is rumoured to be released within a month of the pending announcement in January.

The question is will it really have a camera on it? If so, great as I would use it to chat with my deaf friends on Facetime!

And another thing to think about is the price.. how much will it be and whether it will have a larger than 64GB storage? Im guessing the cheapest iPad 2 will start at £499 and upwards to £749 max. Im guessing we might just see 128GB storage, anyone believe that will happen?

whatever happens, I will look forward to the January announcement! is that usually on the first week of the month - on a Wednesday as announcements are usually announced on, right?

Too close to Christmas? You're talking about a company that until recently always announced major products 2 weeks after christmas (MWSF, first week of Jan).

Products like iPads (or iPods) launched straight after Christmas though? That line of products is usually updated once a year. Also given how much Apple is hammering iPad advertising, I would be pretty surprised if it was any earlier than Feb. I would also think perhaps March - a solid year after the original? Who knows, really.

Not the point. Numerous products introduced at MacWorld were released that same month.

1st Gen. MacBook Air released January 29th. (Announced at MacWorld)
Time capsule released January 15th. (Announced at MacWorld)
17" Unibody MacBook Pro released January 6th. (Announced at MacWorld)
1st Gen. Apple TV released January 9th. (Announced at MacWorld)
1st Gen. Mac Mini released January 22nd. (Announced at MacWorld)
1st Gen. iPod Shuffle released January 11th. (Announced at MacWorld)
iWork released January 11th. (Announced at MacWorld)
iMac G4 released January 7th. (Announced at MacWorld)

End of February doesn't sound too soon.
Oh, really? https://buyersguide.macrumors.com// Quite a few January, February, March releases there (mostly February). Even more simple.

OMG, I'm talking about major releases that generate lines of hundreds of people. Hello!

They are solely iPhone and iPad! Duh!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

The difference is that all of them are NEW or first generation products...not updates. No way we see iPad 2 before mid March

The vast majority of these are not iPad/iPod lines, there are entirely different drivers for their release at this time.

You the man, Arn!

Sad that Apple isn't attending MWSF anymore. That was a "mecca" for me (from as young as 14), my Dad, and my older brother. We did it for years. After attending the last one 2 years ago, we were pretty sad.
Your avatar makes me laugh. :D

Are you one of the tumblr blackout survivors too by any chance? :D

Actually a mini-USB socket is a absolute given as the European Union mandated it as the standard recharging method on all cell phones. Of course just because the connector is there doesn't indicate USB functionality.

Not strictly true. Having a mini-USB connector is one way to meet the EU requirements, however Apple can still be compliant with its proprietary 30-pin connector as long as the charging cable connects to the actual charger with a USB connector. There's a thread somewhere on here that goes into this in more detail.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

Wonderful. Hopefully the next version of iPad will be actually worth buying.

But what better time to clear out old stock ready for a new model than Christmas and the January sales, especially coupled with a big advertising campaign?

Where did this "better screen" rumour come from? Last iPad 2 rumour posted here was about "new screen technology" which is about as ambiguous as you can get and could mean a more energy efficient or cheaper screen, just as much as it could mean a "better" or higher res screen. People need to calm down and think logically lest they be dissapointed at release.

Firstly, as others have said the iPad is not a cell phone (and won't charge very well over a standard 500mA USB connection anyway)

Secondly, the rumored USB connection is a USB Host connection (i.e. the computer end), not a USB device (i.e. the mini USB connector), so the EU mandate is irrelevant to the rumour

The previous rumor also said improved mobility which has been taken to mean lighter thiner but could be a reference to data connection like LTE. All that really matters here is the reading people jump on.

End of Feb does seem a little early, but I hope it's true. I was close to cracking and just buying the current iPad, but I'm glad I held out for 2G now - the end is in sight! :)

Slimmer, lighter and FaceTime camera I think are a given - not so sure it will have or even needs a rear camera. And implementation of a "true" retina display could be tricky to see the least... but a bump on the resolution would be nice though, as well as more ram and a 128GB version.
