My tesco's order that is due in store for pickup tomorrow has just changed status to: Sending from warehouse to store (Ref #71).

This apparently means it is on its way to the store.

Mine too, its getting exciting now. Shame we have to wait till 4pm but it will be worth the wait lol

I've been thinking about the online delay situation, versus loads in the store and given the limited stock if I was apple I'd have done exactly the same. Here's why:

- Say your Apple and you have 400,000 ipads to sell in the UK, you know there's going to be high demand and you want to maximise your sales so you can say "Look how many we sold on opening weekend!!". You could:

A) Sell 200,000 online and 200,000 in the shops; selling all your 400,000 on the opening weekend. OR

B) Sell all 400,000 in the shops and ANOTHER 300-400,000 online because of high demand which you then fill the orders directly from your chinese factory as quick as they can be made (i.e. 2-3 weeks).

So you either sell 400,000 and annoy the very visible hoards of queuers being interviewed by the media due to the short suppy OR

Sell 700-800,000 (on paper anyway) and annoy the online orderers sat at home and complaining on a few online forums.

I know which option I would take....

I did in the end manage to get myself an iPad 2! So I thought I'd share my story below too :)

I started trying to order online at 12:30am on Friday morning only to be caught up in the whole 'oops there's a problem' debacle. Finally managed to get my order in for a 64gb 3G with navy leather smart cover and HD cable at about 1:50am. I am fairly annoyed with the 2-3week wait, so I thought I'd see what else I could do. I work in central London so I headed down to the Regent St store on Friday at 5:30pm and there was literally over 1000 people there, and although it looked like they had enough stock for everyone, I had plans and couldn't queue for the next 4 hours to get one.

I read on this thread that when the store finally closed on Friday they still had 'plenty' in stock, so I decided I'd go on Saturday and see if they had anyone. I got there at 08:30am for a 09:00am open thinking not many would have thought to come again on Saturday, WRONG :) There were already 150-200 people there and so I joined the back of the queue, another 100-150 joined behind me in the next 30mins. When I got to within metres of the front door, a couple of apple store guys started walking down the line saying "No more 3G, WiFI only". I half though about leaving as I'd wanted the 3G, but the more I thought about it, I've only really used the 3G a few limited times and mainly use wifi, so in the end decided I'd save myself £15 a month (vodafone) and get the wifi version. I got 64Gb wifi blue navy smart cover, took around 1 hour in all. Still huge queues when I left about 10:15am and the supply looked liked it was reducing quickly. Think they then ran out mid afternoon. My online order is now going to my brother.

Hope everyone gets lucky and gets one soon. I really like it so far!!

Richard.

Just though I'd post a pic of my 32gb iPad 2 with its custom Gelaskin.

That's really nice! Looks like the perfect companion to a smart cover on the front.

Yeah, same here. I think Tesco's will deliver now, thankfully as I have cancelled the apple order...

Both my launch day iPads have gone back to Trafford Centre today. Both with backlight bleed.

Both swapped in store. I've only checked one so far which has a very very tiny amount of bleed, but infinitely better than the first ones.

If anyone has a problem, I URGE YOU to return it. Apple will base any solution to this obvious problem on the amount of complaints received.... think iPhone 4 Antenna - when Steve Jobs did the presentation about antennagate he gave the figures of returned handsets which was very low.

Anyone know what the situation is regarding Manchester store stock levels? Either of the Apple stores got anything?

Edit: Obviously discounting the two duffers that got sent back to the Trafford Centre by Gazzrenn.

Dear Shamil,

We are now preparing your PC World order for delivery.

Your order number: @@@@@@@@@

Forward order (no delivery date confirmed)

Meh...... AHEM! Did they just charge my card?

I just got an email that they 'processed' my order.

+1 Happy days :) Hopefully it'll be ready at lunch time and i can pick it up then... Although i may not get much work done knowing it's in my bag... LOL

Awesome! I've ordered one too. The smart covers are nice, but i'm a bit anal about putting my iPad down on its back. My iPad 1 never came out of its case.

Same here. Easy to scratch when you lay it down.

I ordered a Best Skins Ever cover in advance. Applied it last night. Gone on really well. No orange skin effect. Just adds a bit of gloss to the back.

Really liking the Smart Cover. Thought i'd end up returning it but it's an amazing fit for the iPad and it's added some functionality without adding bulk.

That said, I wouldn't buy it as my only protection for the iPad so it's not a cheap addition.

iPad 2 UK Thread

I tried to order my ipad 2 from apple when they went online on Friday morning. When I saw there was a 2-3 week delivery I decided to take my chance and try and get it sooner elsewhere. Was very excited when I managed to order one from Comet on Friday night for delivery on Monday. By the time the order went through the delivery had changed to Tuesday disappointed but still happy I had one on its way even though was paying extra for delivery. On Saturday looked at Argos website to find they had what I wanted for delivery on Monday but as I thought I had already got one couldn't afford to buy two. Today I get a call from Comet asking me questions to confirm my details never had that before when buying online. Then was told i would get confirmation email shortly….. Ten minutes later got another call from Comet telling me the were sold out and couldn't process my order…..:mad:
Now I will have to wait hoping apple will get more stock this week and I will go to the store.
Did anyone have the same happen to them at Comet?
Does anyone know if Apple are getting more stock this week? I'm after a black 32gb with 3g
