iPad 2 UK Thread

so i managed to get a 64 black from JohnLewis. their online ordering system and sms alert worked perfectly. unfortunately the ipad has pretty bad bleed. so as there is no stock anywhere i'm going to return it and wait for my original apple order to come through (placed at 12:40 on the 25th).

just wanted to reassure anyone with a similar problem, JohnLewis were totally charming and said it was no problem at all and they will send out a courier (for free) to pick it up. the chap on the phone didn't seem to be aware of the backlight bleed problem (breed? no bleed) but was very helpful.

so now back to the long wait. on a brighter note, the new ipad really is rather on the fast side.
 
I got mine on Thursday (having ordered on Wednesday from Tesco).

No backlight issues at all, or at least none I can see.

Very happy with the device! Playing Worms on the train feels good.

@tominsung - thank you soooo much!! I grabbed a 32GB Wifi withe from JL thanks to your post.

Not the colour I originally wanted but I can't bear the frustration with dealing with PCW / and others and my obsession with scoring one so decided to settle.

I'll cancel other orders only when in hands. Thanks again and good luck to you guys still on the hunt!

Congrats man, I had the same feeling but after a few hours to contemplate, it's already starting to grow on me. Plus the ip4 is black so it'll be a nice change.
 
At Apple Regents Street today to return my "bleeding" ipad 2.
First I thought this must be my lucky day when the rep led me downstairs to get it exchanged straight away and waved a new on in my face, only to have it taken away again, when they found out I bought my at PC World. The Jobs giveth and taketh away.

Now 3 or 4 days wait until they have replacement stock. They wouldn't let me have the ones they had there. Mmmmmmmh!

Fingers crossed that the new one won't have any bleeds. None of the ones I inspected on their tables did, neither does my friend's.

that's interesting - so they wouldn't swap? i thought this would count as a faulty hardware issue and therefore covered by apple?
 
Got my order through from Vodafone - syncing now. Glad I went with the black again, looks so amazing - grabbed a Tan smart cover from HMV amd am happy as Larry.

Just got to offload this 64Gb 3g that I got from Orange only to discover they were Sim locking them :mad:

Exactly the reason why I wont go near resellers - Tesco are tempting but I am happy to wait for my Apple shipment knowing I can walk into a store and get it replaced and not have to deal with reseller kids with spots sales assistants.
 
that was amazing,

After trying all week to reserve I finally did it first time.

had page loaded at 8.55, F5 at 8.59. Picked my ipad etc and it went straight through. First time, no hiccups.

Genius bar at 12.00 for my iphone, collect ipad at 12.30. :):)

As I live nowhere near any Apple stores or any stocking Apple products I always phone Apple direct with any problems. Got my first iPhone from carphone warehouse, had problems, phoned Apple, new phone within 2 days.

I totally agree that I won't trust resellers with aftersales at all. Actually, even though my iPad came through ok from Currys it still doesn't make me forget all the years of abysmal service from them. lol
 
Does anyone want to swap a reservation i have for Bentall Centre Kingston.

White 32gb 3G+WiFi i'm willing to swap it for a reservation Black 3G+WiFi 32gb..

Any takers?

If not i'll just settle with the White.
 
Got a reserve at bluewater in the end at last after 3 days of trying got it not the nearest store but close enough :D

And just got me comfo email so it has has gone though wohoo

GOOD news is...i didnt reserve it...

got some one else to do it for me...ha haaaa
 
i bagged mine just before 9pm tonight lake side 64gb white, they only had the 64's and the 16's for reservations in 3g models right from the start i think

Make sure the person who reserved it goes and collects it. They ask for photo ID. Good luck

Firstly thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, i've been following intently since day one UK launch.

I ordered at 2am launch day, but ships 15th; I'm now in Paris and managed to reserve white 32gb 3g for collection tomorrow at the Louvre (followed the tips several tabs open- lots of refreshes! used Chrome osx) Small burn is its €711 (£630) but never the less happy to get one from a store.

Was playing with one today, very nice indeed :D

I am slightly surprised at the number of buyers here opting for black? to me it looks just the same as the first gen ipad, gotta be white, and maybe red leather cover!
 
Yay getting mine exchanged for one without a terrible bleed tomorrow hopefully. The top right corner of the screen is so so bad with the backlight on full. Our display models at work (John Lewis) don't have any issues so hopefully my new one wont!
 
Actually I'd need a piece of advise from you guys:
I need to get 2 ipads 2 16gb white or black for the weekend of the 16/17 of april. What would be the best thing to do?

- order online just in case to get it even a few days after the 16/17 of april and eventually cancel the order if I manage to get some on the internet somewhere?
- rush every morning at the apple stores?
- ...?
