Purley Way Croydon

This forum is getting quite funny :p, I just hope it was as smooth as my previous iPad/iPhone experiences have been, I have always been 1st in line (except for iPhone 3G where I was about 5th) and have always been in and out in around 30 mins after around a 1 hour wait.

I have put this form up for all you Purley Way Croydon goers: http://bit.ly/iPad2-Purley let me know if you think there should be more or less on there and if anyone going on that day can fill it in when they get to their chosen store that would be cool so we can all let each other know easily where to get what from, I will update this page: http://bit.ly/iawa2kiPad with stock levels that I hear/know about - feel free to comment on that page so I can update it as we get closer!

Just hope weather is better today if we are all queuing!

Pc World Purley Way have a dedicated Apple section, it's staffed by Apple employees. One of the staff Tom is taking details for the 25th and says he will have his stock and pricing on 22nd.
he only had 6-7 names down as of 1pm today.

Think I'll be going there. Regent Street for iphone 4 was chaotic even with a pre-order.. :):)

Just been looking on here to keep up to date with the UK info.

Looking to get one on Friday, do people actually queue for Apple products here in England? I know queueing's our thing but really? even away from the central London stores?

Really can't be arsed with that..

I feel the same, I don't really want to stand in a que for 5 hours just to get an iPad. Unfortunately I live in London so can't imagine any Apple store near me will be quite.

So they were selling iPhones BEFORE Apple were? Huh. I can't imagine Apple would be too pleased about that.

The Apple store in london regents street started selling iphone's at 7am however I got mine from a local o2 store and they started selling them at 6am... i got there at 5:30:eek:

new here guys, just wondering which Apple Store Londond u will prefer going.
I m thinking Covent Garden since it's new but there might be as huge queue as Regent Street one?

I'm still holding out for online pre-orders. Failing that I'm not sure yet. I'd quite like to experience a big Apple store launch, on the other hand queing for hours especially if the weather is rubbish wont be great, so maybe I'll go to one of the smaller stores.

Never queued for an Apple product before but I'm very very tempted by the iPad 2..
I noticed a few people mention plans to queue at the Liverpool ONE store, but did anybody queue for the first iPad there? How big was the queue?
I've no idea how to even get there early enough as the first train I can isn't until 6:08 and I don't drive..

BAH I wish they'd just hurry up and announce pre-order details, assuming there even are any.. :(

well I am more of a fan of the apple store and I guess they will have the largest amount of stock as well as the longest queue...
just HOPE there will be pre-orders :(

Excellent, just called and left details just incase JL@Home don't have any!

Have upadated the site at: http://bit.ly/iawa2kiPad thanks for the info!

Spoken to PCWorld and Argos, nobody is able to secure preorders, because some stores (especially in Argos) Won't be getting iPad 2's at all.

Oh awesome, there's loads of Purley Way people here :)

I'd love to go and meet you all for the launch but it's a school day so you'd all be gone. And though I sound really interested in the launch, there's no way I'm going to be allowed an iPad 2 anyway. But I'll check out the site through the day. It's a pretty good place for the iPad 2 if they all get stock :p

Seems like Apple are not allowing resellers to take preorder lists (even after they have been started).

Any chance Apple UK watch this thread?

Hi mate, I was thinking about doing it. Dont finish work till 6am over in Livingstone. Should be able to get there by about 6:40 dont know if that would be too late.

PC World guy I spoke to stated explicitly that he will not be able to hold one for me just let me know closer to the date what stock they will have and what models etc. for launch day, which is still better than most places as they are still giving their own version of the script "You can sign up for notifications online", to which my response has been, "yes but is this for specific stores?" which the reply seems to be the also very scripted "The iPad 2 will be available in our stores from the 25th March where it will be first come first served".

My main concern with the stores (so far, Argos, Best Buy and Comet) who give that same speech (almost word for word) is that they use the term "from the 25th March", this sounds just like the broadband speed claims in the UK, "Up to" - technically they are not lying if your local store does not get stock until the 12th of November 2042 of the iPad 2 as long as their chain gets stock from the 25th March 2011, they would also (getting real petty here) only have to get 1 in stock in 1 store "from" this date....

Rant over, please continue!

Popped in to my local Argos store today to ask about iPad 2 preordering and the woman said they don't know when they will be getting them in (she phoned someone at central distribution I think). She said it will be launched on the 25th but they don't know when they will have them in store.

:(

Apparently they will get them when:

They already stock iPad 1's.

All iPad 1's are already out of stock. My local one isn't, and the apple rep's said they won't be getting any for a while.

Thanks for that. Is that the final, definitive list, or could there be more?

I had heard rumours of Comet, but that might just have been the iPad 1.

At least there are 3 of these near me (no Apple) so hopefully I might get lucky and get one on launch week-end.

Thanks.

Hi KevinM2

Unfortunately we are unable to confirm which of our stores will have stock on the day of release due to the way Apple operate market wide.

They have a very strict policy whereby stock is not provided or allowed to be distributed to the stores, until the very last minute and therefore, at this stage we can’t confirm which stores definitely will have the iPad 2 on release day.

Sorry I can’t give you a definite answer.

Will the iPad 2 be available on your website on launch day?

Just been to my local HMV to ask if they will be getting any iPad 2's in next Friday, and the girl told me her store was too small and hasn't been allocated any, but I should be able to get one in the Glasgow store.

The interesting thing is though, she asked me if I knew the prices, and I just said I assumed they'd be the same as the iPad 1, and that meant the 64 Gb WiFi would be £599, however, she looked on her system and said, black 64Gb WiFi, £559!!!

I asked to check and she said, yes, £559. So if that's the case, then I am well pleased, as it's not a whole lot mire than it us in the US plus local taxes.

Definitely getting a UK one now rather than wait til I go to the US in May.

Better not be Apple Store only, I have no chance of getting to one.

Looks like I'll be calling PCWorld often.
