I think demand was way way more than anyone expected.

Analyst predictions, which probably wern't too far from Apple's predictions seemed to be around 600,000 for the weekend and that was considered optomistic. Reports are estimated now to be around 1,000,000 sold on that weekend.

If things went according to the estimates, they would have sold 600,00 first weekend and still had stock for the follwoing week with shipments slowly trickling in.

Sometimes you just can't plan for everything.

So are they basing this on the first ipad then? They are obviously not basing it on the Iphone 4 figures. But then again I'm not sure how many were sold at launch, its got to be quite a few though.

I'd be very surprised if Apple say anything till the last minute. I can't believe a brand new product that has been released in the US is already out of stock for 4-5 weeks its only been a week. You'd think Apple would plan for all this but I think they just wanna create the long lines at launch time.

but who's to say that the UK stock for launch is untouched or not?

Yea i'm pretty sure the predictions based off the numbers sold of the first ipad. They predicted more first weekend sales than the ipad, but not this many.

That's true maybe some of the international stock was use for the US market. We'll never know lol

Here's my theory on this, and it really is just a theory.

If they sold 1m ipads in the US over the weekend, they obviously had 1m ipads in the country. Once they sold out, delivery times went from 3 weeks, and then 5 weeks. At the same time, more UK based retailers started advertising the 25th as a release date.

If they did suddenly decide to postpone the launch in the UK, they wouldn't have let websites advertise the 25th release date. Secondly, due to the increased stock by re allocating to the US, the delivery times would have been brought forward, but this does not seem to be the case.

Wonder if we'll get any foreign scalpers queuing overnight to buy up the stock..!?

Another reason to offer us pre-orders! I dont want to compete with someone else, especially when they consider it their business to buy iPads. I just want one for my own personal use!

Why do I get the feeling it's going to be a nightmare trying to get one within the first week of launch?

I've been waiting for the second iteration of the iPad since November last year. It's been a long wait. I can wait a bit longer I but not 4-5 weeks!

Pretty sure there were some at the Bullring iPhone 4 launch... couple holding a place in line and then loads more turned up and jumped into the queue when it was closer to opening time.

Wish we'd hear something today. Even just confirmation of the pricing would be nice... allow me to think about getting an extra one for Mother's Day (I'd flog her old one... not THAT generous ;-))

I've been waiting the same sort of time. I was tempted to buy one for an xmas present but didn't and held off. I'm hoping to get one for mothers day and then another one when I go to vegas in June.

I am in the same position
Was going to do the xmas thing - then held off
I must admit if I was in the queue and someone was holding places for loads of others to jump in, I would go nuts!!

I am never selling my ipad before i get the newest one again.

dont think i'd be that fussed if i wasnt missing my old one so much!

I want to play real racing 2 hd!

Didn't think there would be this much demand for a device without a retina display. Quite a few people were dissapointed. In glad that I waited since slimmer/lighter/faster are good improvements to have waited for.

Any new news on possible preorders fromanyone besides apple?

I just went to the store site and noticed this, it used to be filled with only the "new macbook pro" ad, they've changed it. I may be wrong though.

Update: Before and after pics. (macbook pro ad is before)

I think you're right. But, if they went to the effort of doing that but didn't add anything else it may not be looking good. That said, I'm sure if you click on the first generation iPad the text about the iPad 2 has changed to simply "iPad 2 is coming."

I'm trying not to leave mobile reception today!

OK hands up
Who just dashed to the apple uk page to see if pre-orders were being taken at midday
Just me then
I'll get me coat

Your right I'm sure that ad never used to be there.

Whilst checking I noticed, if you put 'Apple UK' into google the Apple Website is called 'Apple Computer UK' I thought they dropped the computer bit of there name ages ago. If you just put Apple in the same website is called 'Apple (United Kingdom)

Bit strange I thought.

lets make a pact, first person to notice that preorders are up needs to post in here before they spend 10 minutes putting their order in :)

Not a chance mate
