What do the other northerners think of the options for Metrocentre or Eldon Square? I'm a bit undecided, I'm sure both will have plenty but which is the best queuing venue

I'm aiming for getting there at about mid-day :p I'll look a right tool in a tent outside if no one else is bothering.

Was it daft for the iPhone 4 or original iPad with these two locations?

I don't think the metro centre store have ever had a launch because the store opened after the iPhone 4 was released........I'm glad it's looking like a 5 pm launch because how would they organize people queuing outside shopping centres (eldon square, metrocentre) that have different entrances??? Eldon square store is the biggest and they have experience of launches.... Shame about the cost of parking.... £8.80 for 3hrs (ncp)

what t i m e on Friday?:)

Hey all,

so has anyone who has been to such a launch before any idea about how early you should queue up? What would be the 'average' time that people start gathering if there is any? Around noon or already around 10ish? I'll be going to the Covent Garden or the Regent Street store... chances are that their queues will be longer but I reckon they will also have more ipads in stock because they are among the biggest stores in the uk..

Does anybody know whether or not you can get prepaid microsims for ipads so that I can go on the internet via 3g if I choose to from time to time, without having to pay on a monthly basis? (may be a stupid question but I'm not sure)

Cheers,

Fabien

I think O2 does this, £2 per day? I'm getting a 3 SIM (Internet only) for £5.11 pm with 2Gb, for that price, it's a no-brainer

Will these types of contracts work with the iPad?

I know someone who has one and it works OK - it needs some tweaking in settings to make it work apparently, will know more later.

If this one doesn't work, it's not much lost - having said that, if it doesn't neither will the mobile broadband SIM, as neither are 'meant' for the iPad.

Safest approach is to use the iPad Micro-SIM for £7.50 1Gb and £15 10Gb (if you want 3's network that is)

They pulled all of it from my site (link in sig), I had put (and it's still there) that it was the latest from the forums, I do not claim to take credit for it I was quoting your post. I don't mind too much that they re-hashed it but would rather they had done it word for word or just put a link back as theirs does come across that there was loads of secrecy etc. involved but it was just info anyone could get from a public forum! ;)

Here is the reply I left for Soundboard on my website post, I am not trying to be rude I would just like to defend myself:

I do not report to be a super spy, I have also linked back to the public forum we are all on commenting/reading within the post and have stated that your quote is the latest from the forums...

I just started this for the MacRumours group if you find my original posts in the forum we are in for UK launch as loads of us are going to Croydon Purley store but if you read my post fully you will see it has ended up growing into more generic launch info.

I will not delete your comment here as I would like people to see that I have nothing to hide and welcome any comments/complaints people have but will always get my views back across.

I hope I have not upset you in anyway or caused you in anyway I am just trying to help others out...

I cannot control what other blogs might rip/mistake what I have put on my blog for something more than it is,

Kind Regards,

Iain Waddingham

I'm merely saying that you don't actually link to where you get the exact quotes from your "sources". I'm not just talking about me posting the catalogue numbers here on MacRumors, but also the other retailers (which I assume you also get off forums). Since you just quote and don't include sources or links to specific posts - other websites can steal the material (including the images I linked) and then watermark them as their own with no trace back.

TBH, take it or leave it, please don't think I am getting shirty as I'm not, it was purely info for anyone that wanted it, it wasn't made to be plastered across the net, if you would like me to remove your references I will but I was just trying to help out anyone on here and myself to keep track of everything going on, I would normally do this in a word doc or something for mysel to keep track of everything I have found as there is always loads of rumours.

As I have also stated, most of the rumours I have "verified" is where I feel I can trust people who have posted, like yourself or where I have called the stores, I also have a contact who works for Carphone Warehouse and my wife works for JLP so I can glean some more info than usual or verify rumours from these stores easially.

Hopefully everyone else on this forum will agree it's just nice to have it all in one place and that it was never for me or others to be glory hunting.

Again, please don't think I am having a pop as I am sincerely not. I just wanted to help provide a service.

What's the Apple store in Westfield like? Is it big? One of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Covent Garden/Regent Street is that I reckon that they would have a huge stock!?

I think everyone needs some beers.

There is no need to panic or queue for 5 hours. There is plenty of stock and it's available from so many places -

Apple, Apple resellers, PC World, Argos, HMV, Currys, Comet, Expansys, Misco, Carephonewarehouse, John Lewis, Vodafone, Three, O2, and maybe more.

Not as big as regent street or covent garden but queue won't be so long (I hope!) plus I rather be queueing indoors in case it's a rainy day

I had the 3 mifi sim which was bigger type but you could press out the micro sim and it works a treat in the iPad on 3, I get 5gb per month for £7.50 which is a great deal.
3 is really fast up here in north east UK, I have O2 on iPhone 4 and it's terrible

According to a friend (of a friend... working in a pretty high up position at the Brighton Apple Store) they're getting A LOT of iPads in stock.

The supply isn't unlimited but they're not expecting anything like the issues in the US.

They're still sort of in the dark about fine details of how the launch will be handled but it's expected that the store will be shutting around 3pm for a "bit of a refit" and opening again at 5.

I do know the person in question and know that they are in a "position of power" so to speak but I'm not a close friend so this info hasn't been given to me first hand.

I don't have any reason to disbelieve this though.

PC World/Currys in Ireland are taking pre-orders for instore pickup on launch day (Friday) if anyone will be in the vicinity. Someone mentioned that they have already arrived into Ireland over the weekend apparently :)

Apple's distribution for Europe is based in Ireland I believe.

Apple conference call with Auth Reseller info

Apple conference call regarding iPad 2 held today, further info on my follow up post to this blog entry: http://bit.ly/iawa2kiPad - some info we know some we weren't sure on but good news that we will get some more info from Apple soon!

Is that a current deal, as I can't see any mention of that tariff on the 3 website.
