Before you started to Flame me for my personal throught's on the newer model of the Ipad2..

here is my personal thought's on the Ipad2

1-all they did was inprove the whole thing by adding two camera's..the reason is i'm not inpressed by this move is that i all ready have the new iphone with front camera set up for useing in video calling back to the family .. so why upgrade to a new model when i'm allready useing the iphone for that

2-no bigger flash stowage drive on the unit same size as the one i have now so what give's on that one and i wanted a bigger flashdrive

3-the inprovement was the wireles transfer of file's ok i got to give them some point's on that one

4-white color come on in this area in this day and age you can mix up the basic color's and come out something that you can be order from blue to green to match the your personal colors that you like ..but for me black worked and i have no problem with that ..

5-the socalled dual core processer that it ..to me all they did was retweak the standard processor and now it a model a5 as they are calling it ..

6-some of the other thing's that they bought out i do not use them at all

7-same price for both the older Wifi and 3G models and new model's so i have to give them a few point's in that area

8- a little slimmer than the older model and a lighter wieght so there is point's for that area ..

9- the screen is the same size and socalled pixel count is the same ..no point's there..

i would have upgrade's without a thought about if it had a bigger flashdrive in the newer model but it does not and the older model is working fine so why upgrade ..i'm going to start looking now for the older model's that going to be dumped on the market now at a lower price ..

Anybody else HATE the redesign? I think the first formfactor looke much better, and they could have stuffed an even bigger battery in. Sometimes I despise Apple's lust for thinness...
I don't hate it, but I agree the iPad 1 looks more refined.

But until they figure out how to resolve the 3G strap, it's really a pointless discussion.

Not sure what some of the negative commenters are on about here. The iPad 2 is greatly improved over the first iPad, which itself was impressive. And they managed to make it 5 mm thinner, which to me is amazing.

We'll surely be seeing some nice tablets all around this year, but seriously, nobody even comes close to Apple in terms of both build quality and price, let alone the number of apps available.

I wouldn't call this an incremental upgrade: it's faster, thinner, has hdmi out, Facetime camera, and lighter. It has a multipurpose cover and a gazillion apps ready to go. For those who put off buying the first iPad in order to wait for iPad 2, there is nothing more to wait for. Liquidmetal? Retina display? Keep dreaming. If you want the machine of your dreams that has the max of every tech available, for a good price, you might as well wait forever. This is the here and now, and the iPad 2 is as good as it gets at the moment and probably for this year.

It's still a closed system, but if you are happy operating in that ecosystem (and many are), then the best tablet on the planet has arrived.

Only thing that would even have me consider upgrading would be the cameras. It would be nice to have for Skype but I'm perfectly happy with my current iPad. All of the new apps will likely be backwards compatible anyway(except for the camera apps obviously) so no biggie there.

I will wait for a retina display iPad before I do so much as to even consider upgrading. Still a nice update for those that have been waiting though.

From 2 stereo speakers to larger grill, mono "speaker"... no sale
Plus they are on the back now, not bottom so the sound goes away from the viewer??

I think it's great. Faster, thinner, lighter. What's not to like?

I've hated every case I've gotten for my existing iPad, I really like the new cover.

Great job :apple: you'll be getting my money March 11.

To all you spec whores, go play with your 100 apps on your xoom.

Perhaps a stupid question but when I get the ipad 2 will I be able to download all my apps from my existing ipad for free?

I just noticed that they're advertising a bluetooth keyboard, does that mean they've done away with the existing keyboard dock?

One of my grandkid's has what is called fuctioning Autism and he has a Ipad as a learning tool at the school he goes to here in Ca and i love that apple has opened up a world for him to learn on and in with the first model ipad and it like watching a kid in the candy store when he is on it for it the only time i have seen him sit still for hour's when playing on it and not have any problems ..

So i give credit to apple in that area but i would have went out and got him a newer model of the ipad if it had a bigger flashdrive on to load more game's and other learning tool's to put on it ..To me i would have spent the $700.oo dollar's or more on a upgrade to help him in the future and not thought about it ..but i was looking forward to a some more high end upgrade's from apple ..

He kid is allready a great computer programmer at 12 and he know's the working of the computer system like the back of his hand ...So if you looking to get rid of your older model check into your area school that help's the kid's with special learning need's

LOL. The best android tablet, Xoom, is the only competitive tablet. With the dual core and cameras, Apple just sent the rest of the competition to the drawing table. It's going to be a while before the rest of them can make a sub-$500 tablet; that's what they're going to need to do to compete with Apple.
I believe Apple knows that if they can keep the $499 price point, they'll maintain dominance. That's probably why we haven't seen upgrades like retina display and more RAM.
I primarily use my tablet to watch videos and read books, so the upgrade isn't compelling enough for me to buy one. However, if I was in the market for a tablet, Apple would be the first choice.
what you are talking about, it got the same speccs or better then the best android tablet out there, at half the price point almost. There is not going to be a tablet this fall.

ETA:

I nearly spit my water onto my work keyboard.:D

Yes, you will. Transfer all of your purchases in iTunes and back it up. When you get your iPad 2, restore from backup and sync.

Oh, and wrong thread. :p

Overall, I think it's a great upgrade. There is a lot of potential (as far as what app developers will be able to do) with this much horsepower (the dual core CPU and new GPU). When/if developers learn to properly utilize all of that power, the apps could be amazing. My biggest dislike is that there is no pre-ordering. That is stupid. Apple had actually gotten better each year in their pre-ordering process, but now not having one just smells of "publicity stunt". Apple seems to WANT to have the lines and pandemonium at the stores on launch day. That alone will make me wait until way after the hype has died down before I even think of buying one. And in the meantime, I may lose the "new gadget goggles" and realize that my current iPad will satisfy my needs (the ability of my phone is more important, so I may save the money for the iPhone 5 this summer), and hold off on iPad 2 completely. If there had been preordering available today for iPad 2, in all the excitement, I know I'd have pulled the trigger today. I always do. But by delaying that, and making it so that I have to go to the store in person (I'm not a line person), Apple may have lost a potential iPad 2 sale by giving me time to "think about it", instead of an impulse buy like I'd do if it was available right now.

Well, I havnt been underwhelmed like that in a LONG time... not only was there absolutely NO surprise in there, but what I was expecting them to update didnt even get done!

They didnt mention the ram.. just the a5 processor... they probably left it at 256 to save money! they didnt get the screen pixels updated to anywhere near the iphone 4 level .

the only thing they did right was drop the refurb 16 g wifi ipad 1 model to 349... I will be saving myself 150 bucks and getting that and waiting till they get their BUTTS in gear and up to snuff with the other tablets on the market.

I am one dissapointed fanboy:mad:

Nice upgrades, no rush to upgrade though.

A5, awesome. Better graphics, always welcome. Cameras, cool. IOS 4.3, nice.

If I didn't have an iPad, I'd get one. An I'm sure anyone who held out on the iPad 1 will be getting one, and that's a great choice. For a current iPad owner, I'd wait for iPad 3, retina display without a doubt.

Since when the ipad had 2 stereo speakers.. mine does not.

Don't like the grill but putting it on the back instead on the side is good. no more blocking sound while holding the device.

Nice upgrade. But I'm not even remotely tempted to upgrade from my ipad1 and I was pretty much expecting to be. Bring on the Ipad 3! Today has actually got me more amped up for it.

Pretty much what was expected but I like it. Excited to see what developers can do with the new GPU. Imagine Infinity Blade designed for a GPU many times faster! Also Facetime is nice and with the new processor and improved Javascript engine, websurfing should be significantly faster as well.

It's a solid upgrade and will keep the competition at bay. The only thing that I more-or-less expected that wasn't included was Near Field Communication (NFC).

I don't see how anyone can really complain, since they changed practically everything except for the resolution on the display (i.e. it is very near to being a totally new design). As for the display, that won't be changed until they can double the pixel density (i.e. 2048 x 1536) and we may not see that until next year or even beyond that.
