I think the retina display will appear across Apple's portable lineup this year (MacBook Pros included).

Starting Jan. 16th Verizon is ending their "new every 2" promotion. Current Verizon subscribers will have 1 more "grandfathered" upgrade, but new subscribers (those that buy the iphone 4 on verizon) will have to wait 2 years to get the upgrade price. There is an article in the WSJ.

thx for the info, i understand that but thats not my point, the point is if everyone jumps on the verizon iphone next month, then verizon/apple announces a new one June, I really think people will flip (on he verizon customer end), the ATT customers are expecting an upgrade for their service so no surprise there, but Verizon doing a new one 4 months after initial release, thats a bad mood for customer service imo

the people feel like morons because they could have had something much better for the same price

No. They couldn't have. Not at the time they bought it.

They don't care one bit about the technology. The people getting upset are the ones who must have the latest and greatest. It's a joke. And yes, they are morons, they don't just feel that way.

the people feel like morons because they could have had something much better for the same price

You can always have something much better for the same price. Of course, you'll never buy anything if you think like that. Better stuff always comes out.

Really, it's only a minority of nerd porn addicted fellows who think like that. I had my SE phone for like 3 years before getting my 3GS. Consumerism pushes us to buy new stuff, not actual need. These people should feel like morons for buying into the hype and "next best thing" propaganda instead of feeling like morons for buying something earlier than the new release cycle.

But there's no reasoning with the tech spec crowd, their stuff obviously shuts down and stops working the minute a new gadget hits the market.

Word is the Verizon iPhone 4 is the first of this with the CDMA side turned on and the GSM end totally castrated in production.

I bet we will see this iPhone 4G as a multi-mode phone with options to sell it via "pay as you go" plans. Virgin Mobile and Metro PCS has been wanting the iPhone for a long time. The app to track your expenses will be awesome!

i'd love to have a pay as you go data plan. the rates are ridiculous. why pay for internet in a small device if i already pay for broadband through cable?

+1. Ah well. It's still a great phone. But I will say if they put a much faster chip in it, I will be jealous.

Actually, I hate to say it but I have seen my iphone 4 lag some (already, it took my previous iphone a year at least before it started having noticeable lag issues). And I'm absolutely sure it's not data speed related as it is when I'm doing stuff like playing games (for example) or loading up a program.

It's not really annoying (yet) except for the fact I find it worrisome it already has some issues with lag and they haven't even replaced it with a newer one yet!

+1

Hipstamatic and some other photo apps do have a clear lag and would benefit from a faster processor.

I really wanted the ipad 'till it came out when I felt a little underwhelmed, the gen 2 is looking like more of what I was hoping for, count me in, will order as soon as its out.

I cant imagine Apple abandoning their Tic-Tic update pattern for the iPhone. A speed bump is all i would expect from the '5'

Apple has only had 4 models of phones out and done the "speed bump" once...how do you get a pattern out of that?

Would defiantly get that iPhone/iPad if these rumors are true. Can't wait to see what apple has in store for us, I guess the next thing will be the upgraded iPad so it's all a matter of time

iPhone 4,1 and 4,2 ?

one shiny new iPhone - world phone with gsm/cdma
and 4,2 iPhone 4 with gsm/cdma ?

lower price tag same as 3GS right now ?

My bet for the next iPad screen(if these reporter got their information right) is that its resolution will be 1920x1280.

I know it's very high, however if we are talking about fragmentation and stuff than any odd lower resolution might be pointless if the claim of retina are right.

This res is 1.6 times higher than the current and will have 237ppi.
The A4 can refresh 500millions pixel @200MHz while the A5 will be 1billions at the same rate per second, this means that the A4 can manage 2.5m per cycle and 5m pixels on the A5.

Previous res has 786.432 pixels while this would be 2.457.600.

Also can have retina iPhone Apps in full screen at 2x pixels.

What do you think about this?

Wait, a completely redesigned iPhone 5? I thought it had no flaws and the media was just blowing the "antennagate" out of proportion? You mean, Consumer Reports really was being honest and not just hating?

--- My bet for the next iPad screen(if these reporter got their information right) is that its resolution will be 1920x1280.

I would take the other end of that bet: that is not the same aspect ratio. Different resolutions should not pose a problem, as long as the app was designed well to begin with. Just recompile and there are the high res graphics. However, a different aspect ratio will cause trouble. 1920 x 1440 is more likely. Bit it sounds like an awful lot of pixels to cater for...

When they say completely redesigned, they mean new SoC, radio and radio provider (qualcomm). The aesthetics will only change as the antenna band has to accommodate CDMA and GSM frequencies.

Right. If that leaked video from a week or so ago is in fact an iPhone 5, then it has been completely redesigned--on the inside. I don't take "complete redesign" to mean "new form factor." As far as form goes, I suspect it will be nearly identical to the Verizon iPhone 4.

Also, I'm amazed at how many people continue to say the 3GS was not a major redesign. Physically, it wasn't, but there's a reason it had tons of iOS features that were exclusive to the 3GS at the time.

Yeah I know the ratio is different from the iPhone and could be odd and the screen would be longer, however this add up with the 'no button' claims. Just a speculation.

Anything with that many pixel sounds too much but a small bump in pixel doesn't make much sense either...

One thing Engadget mentioned that MacRumors did not is that the new A5 will be able to crank out 1080p video "like running water." Hopefully this indicates that Apple will finally get serious about 1080p video on iTunes.

I am hoping for a complete redesign in iphone 5, with dual-core, maybe camera bumped up a little, maybe 1gb ram,

I would love a micro-sd card slot, but I guess thats not happening

An SD card slot on the iPad 2? I'll believe it when I see it. And if it does happen, how much you want to bet Apple won't let you store music, video, photos, or anything helpful on it for use on the iPad - it will be "to transfer files to/from only."

Drop in price?

I wonder if having a single model that supports both ATT & verizon will decrease the cost.

iPhone will always improve. That's a given. The big leap with iOS was to 3.0, which was a response to Palm Pre. So yes, of course competition will help move things along quicker. However, that doesn't necessitate a redesign of the antenna or case etc.

I rest my case.

duh it's different technology, different frequencies. Different antenna needed.

Yeah because no-one is buying iPhone 4.. HAHA "I haven't heard about the iPhone's antenna for months. " - .Shine

Thank you for pointing out the obviousness in my posts.
I don't have anything against the iPhone 4, i'm just stating how things are.

While you're at it better wait for Iphone 6. It'll surely be better than 5. Personally I'm waiting for Iphone 7.

J/K

lol! yeah eh, i just wasn't so pleased with the iPhone 4, so i decided to wait. I think the iPhone X will be the best evar.
