My bet for the next iPad screen(if these reporter got their information right) is that its resolution will be 1920x1280.

What do you think about this?

It's going to preserve the 4:3 aspect ratio. 1920x1440 would be it. That's high. My bet is on 1600x1200, which would still be high enough PPI for the Retina effect at around 22-24" away from your eyes, which Apple will claim is the normal viewing distance for an iPad.

Interesting about the ATV3 getting the upgrade. I have the ATV2, and according to the handbrake guys, is much more powerful than ATV1, and can handle relatively complex h.264 streams already. (The handbrake profile for ATV2 won't even play back on ATV1!)

...does it have to become a game machine? Otherwise, the extra power is all but wasted.

By the way, the power usage is ridiculously low, something like 3-6 watts during use, 1 w when sleeping. Hell, is ARM going to take over everything?

But if it includes an SD card, won't it alienate those iPad fans that defended to the death that the iPad doesn't need an SD card slot because it's stupid?

What about the current iPad apps? Also, iOS 4.3 beta 1 has camera shutter png's at 1024x768./

The biggest change will be Safari. It will be MUCH "snappier". (although I joke, it's actually true)

Personally, I think Apple will release a new form factor every two years. Designing a completely new product every year costs a lot of money. I do, however, suspect they will modify the internals significantly. A spruced up iOS, as well.

My predictions:
- The focus this year, just like the 3GS, will be speed. They'll bump to a Dual Core CPU, improve the GPU, and show a fancy new game by Epic running like butter on their new phone. They'll also announce that they've been working all year optimizing iOS for multi-core.
- Lots of new iOS features. Some will cause ranting, here on MacRumors.
- Higher capacity. At least 32/64GB
- Better optics (potentially the rumored Sony lens)
- Slightly improved battery life
- Modified antenna design (same as the Verizon iPhone)
- A white iPhone (finally)
- Lots of magic, wonderful, amazing, revolutionary things. "Isn't that great?" -Steve Jobs

I'm really looking forward to this year refresh of iPad and iPhone. I plan to get them both. Skipped iPad 1, it was gimped, first release, etc. Skipped iPhone 4, my 3GS still did everything I wanted it to, version 4 issues, etc. I think both updates this year will be significant. OS X Lion should be awesome too! Apple seems to be getting back on track now with all product lines and hopefully this year is when all devices and OS versions get more tightly integrated. Great tips MR in this post, looking forward to the upgrades!

Who cares about a SD card slot?!

An SD card is not the universal memory card format for digital cameras, certainly not my Nikon D700, just for little point and shoots... so why incorporate a SD card slot?

I would rather it had a USB port, the way that I download photos from my camera, I never take in and take out my memory card... why the hell do that when all you have to do is simply plug in the USB?! I guess so people don't have to carry around the USB cord, and all one would have to do is unload and insert the camera's SD card... but then goes back, to not all cameras use SD cards.

My new 13" MacBook Air has the SD card slot, an absolute waste of space that could have been better used for something else, or nothing at all in it's place.

I would love for the new iPad to have a USB slot, mostly so I could insert my USB modem when WiFi isn't available :)

If you've played chopper 2 using your Mac and iPhone, you can see why AppleTV needs to become the display for games.

It's only stupid if it's limited to the photos app. If it were system wide extra storage, than it's the best new feature to speak of.

Sd card means easy upgradeable and expandable storage and its cheap too.
It would also open up far more jailbreak exploits!!

It's not just for photos. It's a great way to add extra storage without having a USB sticking out. My computer has an SD card reader and a Memory Stick reader. It's like the new floppy disk drive, much better than a DVD drive. Right now on the SD card I have thousands of old emulated games (Super Nintendo, Genesis, etc), and I just rather have it there, where I can take it out put it away, play the games on another computer. I do not want it on my hard drive for some reason. I also, rather take the memory card out of my camera and stick it in there, it's more convenient than looking for and messing with the cable. Right now I have all my music in my hotmail skydrive, but I'm looking into getting a 32gb memory stick eventually, and putting it on an SD card. (Psychologically I don't like having files that I don't use all the time on my hard drive. Like I'm not going to be playing all those games, and listening to all those songs all the time, so I would rather put them all on an SD card. That way I can also take to the house of friends and family, etc.)

It would be best if it had both a USB port and an SD card reader. I don't get this obsession with having no ports. You just don't notice them during everyday use. I understand that some here are obsessed with the way their device look on a press photo, and that's just ridiculous.

'Upgradeable', how?

'Expandable storage' - USB flash drives... though I can see and agree with InLoveWithi's point of the little SD card fits right in and doesn't protrude from the device... that is a good and valid point.

'Jailbreak' - who cares?

Is it just me or does the iPad dummy model look like it's inflated with air?

Hopefully the real thing looks much better.
Perhaps something like... (I didn't bother with the camera or speaker grille, etc.)

sooooooooo this means Verizon will dick over the buyers that purchased in February and come out with a new one 4 months later? Great!!! Or this is still just part of the att yearly release?
How are people being "dicked over"? Buying an iPhone on Verizon in February is no different than buying an iPhone on AT&T in February. Come June, there will be a new model, just like has been true every year.

You can either buy a new iPhone now or wait until June for the latest model, same dilemma that everyone who's ever considered buying an iPhone has gone through when they're interested in signing up mid-cycle.

Because that what more and more cameras are using as cameras are getting more compact and SD cards are getting larger and large in space. Just look at the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV, it supports both CF, and SD cards.
With SDXC the 4gb file size limit of fat32 can be gone as it now cameras can now read exFat and ext2 formats that XC cards support. Plus, XC is not limited to 32gb anymore as you can now theoretically get cards in the 1TB range. Not sure if CF is able to do that.

It's exciting times! My contract ends this July, and I'll be FREEEEEEE! Android? Verizon? iPhone 5? What else will be out this summer? Wheeee!

Regular SD cards = up to 2gb
SDHC = Up to 32gb
SDXC = Up to 2tb

gotcha, you still have to pay for that first line though even though you sell the phone, so if you add a line, you are paying line 1 plus $40 a month ($10 voice+$30data) on the new line, you might be better off trying to sell the iphone for $300-$400 and pay the cancellation fee on line one, then pen a new account, new number, Verizon, or any cell compnay does not make it easy to upgrade every 6 months, that's why the phone are cheaper the regular price, if they let you upgrade every 6 months they would be losing money left and right

If you talk to Verizon, im pretty sure you can use an upgrade that is available on a different line and take that phone and activate it on your number. You have to work it out with Verizon but it can be done.

what do you mean how?
you buy a new sd card and stick it your device!

umm, who cares about jailbreak? maybe everybody on t-mobile, and anybody that likes to customize, and install apps not approved by apple

because the people on ATT KNOW they are getting a refresh come June like they do every year, Verizon customers do not know if the June refresh will reflect Verizon customers or not

What gets me is for years ...as Apple people we where always a tad behind the times and life was good. Now it seems like every six months I am buying new hardware....aaaarrrggghhh make it stop already. If they want me to keep up this pace they they need to talk to Barclay's about lowering my interest rate!:mad: I just got done paying off my iPad. I was hoping to use the extra credit to buy a shiney new MBP when if finally refreshes....buuuutttttt nnnoooooo we need to redesign the iPad and the iPhone at the same time.....dman you Steve.....can't we go back to being slower at this:D:D

End comedic rant....for now

Just gonna throw this out there but.. you COULD stop buying the hardware, just saying. Currently (but I hear it's an iPad 3 feature) the former gen devices neither explode nor stop working when the next gen comes out. You COULD just wait until it can be reasonably afforded, I mean PC hardware is refreshed every few months still (a new GPU, Processor model/architecture, motherboard revisions, etc.) and Apple refreshes their prebuilt computers every 12 months, but people don't (usually) replace theirs for 2 or 3 years.

Agreed. I think we will not see a major redesign until 2012. They will address to antenna issue, beef up memory to 64 gb perhaps, and probably do a significant software update. I will not upgrade until LTE. I will keep my 4 until then. Apple really does a good job selling the sizzle. You would have thought the way they marketed the 4 they could go another 2 years without releasing one period. I am happy with mine and say that IT IS the best phone out but disappointed in the how the battery life is and the how the glass has held up. I personally haven't cracked mine or wife's but a lot of people have. They made it seem like it was indestructible.
I'm sure iPhone 5 will change it all again, but i wont be excited until they go LTE. Hopefully then the networks will have more parody or I will go back to verizon.

SD cards are still not great for professional or enthusiast photographers most dslr's use CF cards for a good reason sd just isn't fast enough yet. My camera fills the buffer after three seconds of continuous burst because a 90MB/s UDMA CF card can't keep up.
