and those of you asking for a faster Ipad. Do you even own the device? The thing is instant on, and loads web pages as fast your ISP can deliver them.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter if it runs well as it. If the processor doesn't improve the marketing departments at a dozen competitors will jump on it like a pack of hungry wolves.

Just like 4G - 3G is nowhere near its potential but we have to upgrade to 4G becuse it is "better." It has a four afterall. (Yes 4G can improve on 3G but even 3G can scale to speeds over 15Mbps.) Currently both my 3G and 4G networks are getting the same bandwidth, about 5.5Mbps.

Anyway, back on topic. Speed, number of cores, weight, battery life, memory size and storage all have one thing in common: They have to improve or it will be seen as a weekness in the design. Many people purchase things based on specs. Not too many try each device before making a purchase.

I doubt the 7inch iPad.

but I do think we will get a iPad 2 announcement soon! since honeycomb 3.0 is taking off, apple will want to annonce its plans for april, to try to keep marketshare

...

how much lighter would carbon fiber be than aluminum? Like 20 grams? The panel is so small I can't see it weighing much in the first place so it seems like it would be pointless.

As much as I like Apple's aluminum style in their products, I actually would prefer them going lighter by using a different material, but not plastic cheap levels obviously. If Carbon Fiber happens to be the answer, then I'd like to see that happen.

I would really like to see Apple strive for the 1lb treshold with the iPad.

No chance...

Mr Jobs has already said that Apple have conducted extensive user testing, and they found that on devices any smaller than the current iPad become oversized smartphones. I suggest that the sandpaper joke be reproduced somewhere here :p

It could also add a substantial fragmentation to the platform, unless they keep the resolution, but shrink the pixels.

Right now, that's true. But they also used to be all about transparent plastic and the color white.
I don't see why carbon fiber wouldn't make it into their products at some point.

Well for one, as far as I know Carbon Fiber is far worse than plastic when it comes to recycling. And that is something they pushed for quite a lot.

Carbon fiber?

Please let it be unplainted, dry carbon fiber. But knowing apple it wont be. If they do use C/F it will be painted.

Macrumors fail at mentioning a 7" iPad, it will never come out, thought Steve made it clear enough?!

When Steve Jobs says something, he means it. And he will never change his mind. Until he changes his mind.

Apple has a seven inch iPad ready. _If_ someone, like Samsung, sells _significant_ numbers of 7 inch tablets demonstrating that there is a market, Apple will release it. If nobody manages to sell them in numbers, then the 7 inch iPad will never see the light of day.

Steve has also "made it clear":

-No Mac App Store
-No Apple eBook reader
-No video iPod
-No Apple tablet
-No Apple cell phone
-No need for a camera on the iPod touch
-No plans to make the iPad hardware switch user customizable between mute and screen lock
-No third party apps on the iPhone
-No raising iTunes prices

Don't forget no Verizon iphone :p

At some point perhaps. But they've clearly just mastered the art of aluminum carving, so why change now?

Now people are just saying anything and it's on this front page.

7"?? This is still alive? One day Apple will go up to 12" and the world will be perfect. Magical rainbows will shoot out of your butts and unicorns will prance as Apple gets it right.

Yes, this site is called Mac Rumors, not Mac Facts.

Now that is food for thought.

Yeah, I would say that Steve says no to everything that is not in the immediate future for the company.

I doubt they will release a 7" tablet, although if they could make it under $399 then they could really expand their user base. But at that price you are into the iPod Touch price range so I don't know...

Well that all depends on your definition of "No" is (maybe Steve learned something from Bill Clinton?)

Or, that when Steve says, "No" it means, "No, not right at this second."

IMO, Apple will either revamp the iPad under the hood or the hood itself. I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that Apple will revamp the iPad as much as they did the iPhone last summer. But no one ever really knows, not even "reliable sources".

I'm kinda interested in an iPad as an eBook-Reader (although there's apparently no books on iBooks and Sony Reader and the Kindle app seem to violate the App Store rules...). Right now the weight and price of the iPad are a bit off-putting, it's just too heavy to hold in one hand for a long time.

7 inches is a good size in my opinion, that's roughly as big as the large Moleskine notebook which I use daily at work or for private stuff. A 7 inch retina display could be realistic and the size would just be great for reading, taking notes (although I like the efficiency of pen and paper), gaming and carrying in your coat pocket.

I use my 13 inch Macbook Pro as my main computer and usually have it with me to be productive on the go (writing, editing music, photoshop, all things you can't really do on an iPad). My iPhone only gets used for podcasts, address book and calendar. I could definitely appreciate a small tablet from Apple.
